The Department of Student Research & Projects (under the aegis of Student Welfare Wing) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated two-day innovation and creativity of the students by showcasing 750+ innovative projects. This occasion was the annual ‘Innovation & Graduating Project Expo-2024- ‘INNOTEK’ held at Baldev Raj Mittal Unipolis of the university. Thrust areas for the annual showcasing were: Engineering & Technology; Agriculture; Basic, Health & Allied Sciences; Management & Social Sciences; and, Applied Arts. Elite Guests from the projects related industry judged the endeavours of promising LPU students.

Pro Chancellor at LPU, Mrs Rashmi Mittal declared the expo open for all other students to look at and invited experts from the industry to assess LPU students’ innovative creativity. Mrs Mittal invoked creative students to learn from one-another being amid a large diversity at the campus, from across the country and the globe. Diversity under different disciplines helps create innovations and novel ideas. Take innovative ideas to the next level to emerge as change makers, going in accordance with LPU’s philosophy of “Think Big”.

LPU’s Unipolis looked like a broad tech park as hundreds of projects from different domains were showcased. Students’ projects created from the past a year were showcased to motivate the developers and inspire the junior students. Each project was unique in its type but some of the projects took the limelight.

LPU’s incredible minds from different domains presented their aloof creations including those from the Robotics and Drones. The ground breaking robotic invention ‘HEXDOC’ is designed to address the pressing issue of collisions and accidents during construction and excavation processes, particularly in tunnels and caves. It can play a pivotal role in rescue operations, utilizing its unique capabilities to navigate through tight spaces. Remarkably, it requires only a 1-foot by 1-foot opening to pass through blockades that would otherwise be inaccessible to humans. By mapping and analyzing the surroundings, HEXDOC provides rescue teams with accurate paths and routes to reach victims efficiently, as was needed in the tunnel collapse in Uttrakhand, sometimes back. One of its remarkable features is an advanced sensing unit- divided into two parts: environment and victim.

Other projects included cost effective and low current oriented ‘Patrol Vehicle’; Paddle Horse to cater to modern & ancient culture; Innovative replica of Vikram Lander & Pragyan Rover; Cost effective High Speed Tool Changer- 3 D Printer; Hybrid Go-Kart; AI based Sugar Level Detector from human sweat instead of blood; dress in the form of carry bag to be utilized during shopping; Insects bio-robot to save crops; Rapid Roots to supplement Agri-growths by utilizing LPU students created special powder of a Chemical-mix and socially useful many more.

Prior to showcasing, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Lovi Raj Gupta guided students about making illustrious projects stepwise by finding problem statement; solution to be made thereof; think how better it would be than others; and, how well understood being cost effective as well. Invited industry guest, President, Ganga Acro-wools Ltd, Shri Amit Thapar appreciated LPU’s progressive and scientific environment for the development of students. He advised students that creativity is always the best when one wants to achieve and not to beat others. Create something better than others.

The two-day ‘IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition’ concluded in Ahmedabad, with the team “VIHANGA” from Lovely Professional University (LPU) being declared the top winners by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in this first of its kind esteemed national event. Outshining 28 teams from across the country, the seven exceptional engineering students from LPU displayed their ingenuity by designing, developing, and launching CAN-sized satellites.

The IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition, organized for the first time by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), ISRO, aimed to nurture and empower future space innovators. This event provided a platform for students to explore various aspects of satellite building, and fostered a culture of innovation & scientific exploration in India.

Speaking at the event, Chairman ISRO, Dr. S. Somanath emphasized the significance of the CANSAT competition in bolstering India’s commitment to innovation and scientific exploration. He praised the efforts of LPU’s team and acknowledged its remarkable achievement. Dr. Somanath also recognized LPU’s commitment to space exploration, citing the university’s aerospace program and state-of-the-art satellite lab as pivotal contributors to India’s space technology advancements.

In a pioneering development, the Chairman of InSpace, Dr. Pawan Goenka informed attendees that the ASI now grants membership to the private sector and academia, furthering their involvement in astronautics development. The School of Journalism & Film Production and Performing Arts at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized a master-piece Hindi play “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai” at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university. It starred Bollywood’s renowned veteran actors Rajendra Gupta as Dr Bhullar and Himani Shivpuri as Sarita Sharma.

Adapted from famous Russian playwright Aleksei Arbuzov’s play ‘Old World’, which was set in post-World War II USSR; this Hindi adaptation is uniquely set in contemporary Mumbai City of India. It was directed by the legendary director Suresh Bhardwaj.

In the opening scene, lady actor Sarita Sharma is at a seaside health centre to recover and revive; however, according to the head of the centre- Dr Bhullar there was hardly anything wrong with her physically. Deftly woven later episodes of the play took the LPU audience of students and staff members on a scenic and amusing journey of these two characters.

The fiery exchanges between these contrasting characters create much laughter, but as events unfold both struggle to cope with personal losses. Both the characters solemnly displayed warmth and gentle humour, and the mutual growth of liking to lasting affection between two lonely people. The play is also about ageing —the necessity for old folks to live for themselves well. The talented team of light, sound, set and costume designers also created a perfect “old-world” charm.

While honouring the Bollywood actors, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs. Rashmi Mittal encouraged all at different wings of the School of Journalism & Film Production to imbibe every aspect of the related industry in Mumbai.

In fact, with minimal props, the designer sets up a pretty garden scene, a cheery café, the outside of a dining restaurant, an ICU and other scenes. These were enhanced by appropriate lighting. The designer dressed up the characters in clothes that reflect their personalities, at times. Also, the best sound design unfolded indoors and outdoors in different weather conditions.

The LPUNEST (Lovely Professional University National Entrance and Scholarship Test) can be taken from home through an Online Remotely Proctored exam. Candidates must have two devices: a primary device (Laptop/Desktop) and a secondary device (Mobile Phone). Both devices must have a proper webcam and microphones, and a mobile phone with a front-facing camera acting as a third eye.

A minimum internet connection of 1MBPS is required for smooth exam conduct. A desk and chair with a plain backdrop and adequate lighting are recommended. The exam cannot be conducted in public places or noisy environments, and sitting on a couch, bed, or floor is not allowed. Once the exam is remotely proctored, there is no option to switch to a Test Centre-Based exam.
