Thanks a lot for the initiative.. Am plannin to apply for MSc Finance and MSc Management and Strategy courses in LSE. Am taking gmat on jan start.. How much do you think is a safe score? Also I have 15 months work experience (till date) at TCS?? Will that be of any use during my admissions??
hi sandheep
best of luck for the gmat! MSc Finance is one of the most popular courses at LSE. Hence, i believe a gmat score of over 700 will be required to be competitive with the applicant pool.
Your work experience might not weigh too much for getting admission, but will be favorably looked at by the admission committee. The two most important things are the gmat score and your undergraduate gpa. LSE is primarily a very 'academic institution'. Even the subject being taught are very unique and extremely challenging. I know for sure that the economics courses that I take are one of the most maths intensive in the world. Finance too will be 'quant heavy'.
Cheers!

For all those people who are interested in knowing the curriculum at LSE MSc Economics program (2 year).
Year 1
1. Macroeconomics (textbook: Williamson)
2. Microeconomics principles (textbook: Cowell) (Prof Cowell teaches this course). It is very much calculus based and requires the knowledge of maximization problem using Lagrange Multipliers.
3. Econometrics I (taught by Dr. Dougherty himself)
Econometrics II (Based on Linear Algebra and is proof based)
4. Advanced Calculus (Proof Based) or Real Analysis (Proofs) or Game Theory etc... (have the option of choosing this last unit from a large list of courses)
The courses are very intense and teaching moves at a fast pace. There is a total of 20 weeks of teaching (Oct-Dec and Jan-Mar). Exams in May/June.

Hi kushagra.
I am basically an electrical engineer..working in a core steel manufacturing PSU.. During my undergrad times i was really interested in studying Economics hons. Got an admission in Ramjas college DU but had to chuck it due to parental pressure.
I have been working since two years tried both software and hardcore electrical engineering. But i dun think this is what i want to do..
So my question is am i eligible for applying to LSE? What kind of preparation apart from GMAT will i have to do? Do i need more experience? Kindly reply.
Thanks.

hey,
i was really interested in the course provided by LSE but heard its really very expensive ...is it the case? n how r the job prospects after the course?... considering UK is going through a bad phase n right now the situation is bleak!!!
Is work ex a must for the MSc Eco course?
what are the parameters like gre score, past acads, extra currics based on which the admit is granted?
What would be the weightage of these parameters like?
Do they consider people with average acads but excellent extra currics?

hey kushagra,
i am a mech engineer from mumbai and am in the process of applying to lse for their 2 yr econ programme.Considering it to be a stepping stone to a eventual phd in economics/development economics/ political ecenomy. i would appreciate it if you answered a few of my questions
1.what's your undergrad background ? ... as in are you a engineer ?
2.what's the class size and general class profile for the 2 yr programme ?
3.did you have any work-ex ? how much importance should i give my work-ex in my personal statement ?
4.did you try for the eme 2 yr programme ?
5. can i pick your brains a little more about the application process ?
rahul
Hi Rahul
1. I am also an engineer. Computer Science
2. The class size of the 2 year MSc Economics program is 23
3. I had 3 years of work-ex. But, work-ex does not matter as MSc Economics is a very 'academic' degree.
4. My first choice was MSc Economics 2 years. Since I got accepted into the program, my second choice (EME) was not evaluated.
5. I will try and answer your queries to the best of my knowledge. :)

2. The class has 6 Indians. I am the only engineer from India. Rest of them already have studies BSc Economics at some Indian college (St. Stephens, Presidency college etc...)
Your cgpa is good. Both Management & Strategy and Msc Finance are popular. It depends which courses within each program interest you. A gmat of above 700 will be competitive i think.

kushagra,
thanks for the info. ok and how competitive is a gre score of 1500 (q800) and engg percentage of 67.3 % mumbai univ ? i am a little stonewalled regarding the essay. how much should i write ? i have managed to ratchet up about 800 words. is that adequate ?
i am sorry i have raised a barrage of questions but i intend to be done with the application by the 15th of this month.i am a little late already.:-(
any tips for a engineer applicant ?
thanks,
rahul

hi,
Can u pleae tell me about the MSc in Mgmt as well...My profile is:
GMAT of 680
Work Exp: 4yrs with a commercial bank
Undergradute: 7.35/10
Post graduation: Statistics 61.25%
Please tell me about this course as well and what are the career prospects with LSE...
thanks
Hi Sid
The MSc Management course is a 1 year masters. Your profile looks very competitive for admission to this course. The career prospects at LSE are good. Since its primarily an economics institution mostly banks and finance institutions are sought after. There is no "placement" of students by LSE. The students have to search for jobs themselves.
Cheers!

Thanks Kushagra! By the way, its BTech and not MTech. Thanks for the info and wishes!!
