Feels great to be back at GIM after a refreshing and certainly well deserved break. I am a family person; and while it was hard to say goodbye to everyone at home I am eager to spend an enjoyable and fruitful second term with my extended family at GIM.
Marketing is easily the most interesting subject I have encountered. Everything is so real world and so practical. No thought seems irrelevant; if it works for your customer, its worth exploring. Period. Professor Parulekar is an amazing marketing faculty. Its encouraging to find someone with such vast experience and proven credentials yet so receptive to new ideas and a willingness to go beyond mere 'KOTLERisms' . Challenging status quo is a part of life @ GIM and its a privilege to be part of an institution that lets me explore new ideas and embrace change.
Up next is the basanti cup (our intra college cricket tournament). Hope to bowl a few yorkers and bounce a couple of my batchmates. 
With Akhtar out Carvalho can move to fast bowling!!!
The weather in Goa is simply surreal. Its raining 24X7 and the effect the picturesque mandovi has on my spirits cannot be described in words :grin:
The maddening heat of Mumbai is a distant memory.

Time sure does fly ... I can't seem to remember where my vacation went 
And so friends I am back to GIM with the rain gods extending me a very hearty welcome I joined my friends, all of us back from our respective places with huge stocks of goodies just waiting to be consumed

And yes ... we are all set for Round 2 of our PGPM Marathon which tests the Human ability to endure lack of sleep, juggle multiple courses with each presenting tougher challenges and meet deadlines.
The first few days have been nice for us ... I just hope I can stock enough sleep for the better half of this term.

Hey All...this is my first post on Pagalguy and no better day to start than the first Sunday of Term2. I wonder whether we will be getting any more such relatively 'assignment free' weekends.
Term 1 was one roller coaster ride. It took a while to get adjusted to the pace of the course but hopefully we are now better prepared for the term to come. Looks to be one hectic term for sure!
But I am really looking forward to the non academic part of it. The first term was a truck load of fun with Walk for India, Samriddhi and the numerous events organised on campus.
Can't wait for Term 2 to begin in full swing! Bring it on I say!

Term 1 was one roller coaster ride. It took a while to get adjusted to the pace of the course but hopefully we are now better prepared for the term to come. Looks to be one hectic term for sure!
But I am really looking forward to the non academic part of it. The first term was a truck load of fun with Walk for India, Samriddhi and the numerous events organised on campus.
Can't wait for Term 2 to begin in full swing! Bring it on I say!

A beautiful Sunday morning at GIM. ...!!
I wake up to the sounds of birds nestled in their little tree homes chirping away trying to brighten up the sleepy world of humans. I watch the vast open sky and feel humbled. I look out of my window, the Mandovi lies there, calm and peaceful. I watch a ferry go by as dutifully as it always does. This is truly heaven on earth.
But then, there is only one thing separating me from this beautiful paradise. KOTLER...!!
Got to study guys. See you later.

Rains Rains and more rains, dont know what has happened to GOA. Its raining like it wont rain for next 100 yrs. Mandovi is threatening to overflow and airport is closed. Thanks to the Portuguese construction, GIM is safe when 1/3rd of Goa is threatened by floods.
Term 2 and Term 5 are truly ON, can see sleepy eyes and people running between classes.
However the life at GIM never slows down whether its rains or work load. On Saturday BrainVista the quiz society organised its first quiz of the new term and yours truly was the quizmaster. The quiz had one prelims and 5 rounds in the final round and as usual Snape and Pooja won the quiz. I thinks its their Nth win where N tends to infinity, after all they are THE quizzing team of GIM......
@charles, all the best for basanti cup....But beware I m one of the umpires, any resemblance to akhtak(except the yorkers) will dealt with calls of no-balls.......

Whew..!! Four subjects, two days J
Midsems just got over last Friday and the PGP1s at GIM probably had one of the best weekends in recent times. After a long while we actually had a weekend to ourselves. Sure enough students here tried their best to explore the beautiful state of Goa. Sounds surprising but these are rare times when we get to enjoy. Compared to our power packed scheduled where we are expected to do superhuman tasks, this was a blessing from heaven itself.

Sure enough students here tried their best to explore the beautiful state of Goa. Sounds surprising but these are rare times when we get to enjoy. It seems like eternity since I have penned down a word or two on LIFE @ GIM
Life here has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. 2nd Term began with a whole new bunch of subjects and faculties. Finally I can boast of 1 class in which can I do CP Marketing -1. The grades of Term-1 have started pouring in and I am bombed as usual :banghead:.
A lot fun has been happening on the campus as well. First we had a delayed Dandiya night ( due to the torrential rains.. when it rains .. it literally rains cats n dogs in Goa), had awesome fun with all the traditional Gujarati garba tracks and authentic gujju food frm Rajdhani, thank u too all the Gujju crowd @ GIM.
With barely a week after Diwali came. With almost all the PGP participants celebrating Diwali on campus(yes that's what MBA is ) it became all the more fun. RaZzMaTaZz - the cultural club of GIM in association with Prayas made all the preparations for Diwali, all the hostels were decorated with Diya's, candles and lighting. LH & Mourge (Girls Hostels) were decorated and there was a competition for the best decorated room. Post Aarti and dinner was an awesome fire cracker show sponsored by RaZzMaTaZz and @ 10:30 came the most awaited moment. The entry of all the Male Junta of GIM into the Ladies hostel for 2 Hours . Its a long standing tradition of GIM where on Diwali night all the boys are allowed the entry into the girls hostels. The girls decorate their rooms and have sweets and other delicacies for the Special guests. And i tell u the view of Mandovi from LH is simply awesome. I envy the Female Junta.
Post diwali the massacre started with tons of assignments and Mid-term approaching.
Then came another event from MECCA called BLURB based on the concept of product design and advertising. All the participants had fun designing innovating and crazy products such as Anacondom, LoveBulb etc. We as organizers had more fun making and organizing the event and it exposed us to a lot of concepts involved in advertising and product design.
Then came the Mid-terms 4 papers in 2 days totally massacred.
With the mid-term ending on Friday, GIM junta needed the much awaited break and people in groups of 10's headed towards various parts of this beautiful state. I myself with 10 more people landed at Palolem beach on Sat night, stayed in beach huts, had awesome sea food:cheers:, bathed in the clear Arabian sea the whole Sunday morning, explored some more virgin beaches. When you are studying in Goa, atleast on Sundays ( very few though) u can appreciate the Beauty (both scenic and ).
So after a fun and tiring weekend I crashed on my bed last evening to find my self getting up just 4 min before the class. But with the close proximity of class to my room i managed to reach JUST IN TIME .
Now I am waiting for December when I will go back home and waiting more for 31st Dec, when Goa will be like never seen before and the best part , people from all over world come down to Goa to celebrate new years and we as privileged students of GIM will be in Goa.
Signing off as of now. Will soon be back for some more interesting aspects of LIFE@GIM.

Yes. That was indeed a very informative session. The talk was on the topic "Social Media : New Roles for the New World of Marketing". It helped us look at Social Media with a whole new perspective, as a tool for marketing. We were lucky enough to get a chance to chat up with Mr. Rohit Awasthi after the talk where we had a very interesting discussion over a range of topics. Overall a very nice experience for the students of GIM ...!!
Cost and Management Accounting, Production and Operations Management, Operations Research, Marketing and Financial Management were supposed to give me a feel of what a managers work would feel like. Instead it has left me feeling how little I really know about each of them. And Ill probably spend a lifetime learning the whole of it. But thats the beauty. The best part about these courses is that it ticks off the thought process. From there on the possibilities are endless. Sounding a bit philosophical here. But yeah, this place has that effect :)

Well.... After about 6 months in GIM, here I'm putting up my first post for "LIFE @ GIM"! But as they say, its better late than never...:biggrin:
I don't want to get back in time where I started my journey in term 1 coz I'm sure the bloggers here have given you an insight of how things go around in here and well, trust me guys the start of the journey was the best experience ever... a perfect blend of academics:banghead: and fun!:cheerio:
The beginning of term 2 was amazing with the RazZies throwing all of us a welcome party, and then came the inevitable... Term 2 subjects: COMA, POM, Marketing, FM, IGP and OR!!!:-( Sounds scary doesn't it?? But thanks to our professors here they seemed a li'l less scary once the classes started!
For a guy who is from an engineering background, a simple term like "cost" meant a price you got to pay for some stuff you use... well thats what i thought before COMA (a costing subject) dawned upon me.:sneaky: It's in this class that I realized there were about 7 different types of costs!!!
About POM (this subject is all about processes), OR (operations research) and IGP (all about how groups work); it is a totally different experience and well I'm short of words to describe anything about them!!:-)
Now, the next 2 subject I'm going to talk about are my favourites, Marketing and Financial management! So I better not speak much about it because I'm sure I will be completely biased!!!
The beauty of these subjects is that these are so intriguing; you will come up with ideas which you might have never imagined before!
Anyways, now to the interesting part... we just finished our mid-terms about 4 days back and this was the first free weekend we got after a very long time!!! No assignments, no tests, it was like a dream come true!:clap: There were people who went for water sports, beaches,
some just went exploring Goa on their bikes
and some just cleared the backlogs of SLEEP!
Oh by the way, I forgot the most important events in GIM, Diwali and Garbha celebrations.:cheerio: This was the first diwali I was celebrating away from home, but it was amazing! Once you come here, GIM is a home away from home! And then there was a much awaited tour of LH which normally is a no MANs land,:nono: quite literally... It was a pleasure to see everyone dressed in their traditional clothes eating sweets, dancing around, bursting crackers and some just jumping out of their skins at the slightest noise of fireworks.
Theres a lot more to this than whats written above and hence quoting Om Shanti Om Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost...

Its not the endless number of theories that we learn which benefits but its the endless discussions over every theory which shapes our thinking. Its not Kotler from whom I need to learn the basics of Marketing but its the vegetable vendor on the street who knows his product well and understands his customers just as well who can teach me the best secrets of the trade. Slowly beginning to understand the practicalities of this field. And yeah. Isnt it amazing...!!
Its been 5 months since the Course started.. but it seems like I have been here since so many days..
Unlike last term, there is somehow no excitement to go home a month later...
Again, unlike last term the subjects this term are much more interesting, more participative and less of assignments :)
Each day,there is something to learn...inside and more outside class...
You learn here not only about management, business... but also about your own life... about yourself... about the world outside the door of your home... its good and bads...
and slowly you learn to cope with it,, fight with it and finally be a part of it..
I am learning it all here... And I guess this learning will continue for a long period of time..
But what is more important is that I am enjoying all this.. and I guess in the end that is what matters... 😃
Now talking about a certain event conducted by IT @ GIM..
The event was fantastic..in a true sense !!:biggrin: the event aptly named 'Pathfinders' required you to embark on a path through various visual and audio clues , a maze to find the right path and there would be obstacles and hurdles to overcome!..and dead ends which would force you to turn back to the roots !
It was an Enigma to be unraveled and in the end only one team would have earned themselves the Absolute right to be called as the 'PATHFINDERS'!..
Yes , I am talking about the online Treasure Hunt event conducted by IT @ GIM. The response was amazing with over 40 teams in the fray to be crowned as the ultimate treasure seekers. People could be seen 'MCing ' the clues, hopeful to find some kind soul to help them !..:banghead:
:banghead:But in the end it was only you and your team-mate on one side, who had to battle it out with the rest of GIM .
Finally it was Alymer and Sangram from PGP 1 ,who emerged victorious! Kudos to them !..
And a big thanx to the whole team of IT@ GIM for conducting such a wonderful event, which I am sure wasnt easy and required tons of hard work.:clap::clap::clap: !IT @ GIM has been doing a fab job so far, and I am sure we can expect many more events in the days to come..
And yea the Alumni Association of which, yours truly is a part of well kick started a new event ' Alumni Dialogue' , where we plan to bring our Alumni back home, to share their wealth of experience with all of us. We had Mr. Benzi Matthew , from the batch of 2001 , who was our first speaker. Mr. Benzi , currently working as the Account Manager at Cognizant, spoke on job opportunities in the Health Care sector, including from an IT perspective. And we plan to make this a regular event, with more Alumnus to interact with us in the days to come.
Also sometime next week, we plan to conduct the process for the Best Summer Project for our seniors, the details of which I would be posting as and when we have more details.
so, another weekend approaching !!...so its time to Party !!:cheers::cheers:
