halo ppl...
i am saurabh..currently doin my PG in communication management from SIMC. well SIMC in one word is fun. its almost an unwritten rule that we need to party (officially) once/ twice a month. and unofficially everyday. being mass com ppl ppl generally think out of the box and come up ith weird freaky ideas. we are taken out to trips every three weeks. being in Pune going out fr treks with our faculty members is quite a common occurence. we actually go out fr whole night treks without torches. its damn good fun.. trust me. also as any other mas comm college we have our sessions wid guitar and music. last week of september SIMC took us to Panchgani fr five days..it was great ppl.
as far as the schedule is concerned. very hectic..12 hr classes with literally no offs..but guess we work out our own recreation..in addition the subjects r quite interseting..films, photography, photoshopp...interesting..
the fact is if you knw that u want to do somethin out of the block..want to go to office wearing casuals..get paid fr something u love doing..u shld opt fr communications..i have taken this descision long back..
wanna cm to simc..me waiting...
take care

hi this is sumit khanna from delhi,i am a graduate in advertising, sales and management, with that i am doing a course in graphics designing, man i am very interested in going in a media line ,but i dont have much information about the colleges in pune who offer courses in this field or not ,with that i also wanted to know whether i am able to do mba from a good college in pune without cracking cat, hope to see a reply from your end soon
tak care
cheers
sunny khanna

halo sunny
wssup? well as u said that u r interested in media and want to pursue ur career in media u have to chose ur specialisation first. whether u wanna go fr journalism, advertising, public relations, event managemnt, or filmmaking. well pune has no of good colleges fr media. SIMC supposedly is the best in India fr Mass Communication. IIMc in Delhi closely follows. other schools fr communications in Pune wud be Indira School of Communications,(i dnt knw hw it is but) and international school of business and media. there is a proper entrance exam fr the first two. after u qualify fr the first test u hv to appear f another tst where they would test ur aptitude fr media related courses.
others too i guess follow similar pattern but the selection process is comparatively less rigorous.
well there r other coll in pune which give mba without takin cat scores. ISBM and Indiora school of management being sm of them but i dnt knw whether they are good enough.
anyways keep posting
Saurabh

HI

Can u tell me wht snap score gets u into SIMC and how is the GD?PI wht do they ask u?????? Do v need to have good advertising n all ka knowledge.......

Hi Saurabh,
Would like to know what snap score or entrance score you had when you went about applying for simc. Also do classes happen regularly at simc? lot of people said classes dont happen regularly..
Also, I am expecting a score of 68 in snap do I stand a chance?
One last thing: if you are called for the 2nd round what do they ask you in pi?
Do you have to take some art work(read-portfolio) to prove a point that you are artistic?
Please do take the trouble and clarify these things at the earliest.
Thanks in advance, meet you at simc..
Vinutha

Brother what is the snap cut off required for SIMC and when are its gd and pi??

Hey thanks a lot replying back..
plsssssssssssssssssss answer the following list of qs for me???????????

media awareness test what do you suggest as the material to prepare? cos I dont have too much of knowledge on current affairs in media etc.,

what kind of placements have your seniors got (in general what kind of placement to expect?) and you must be having your internship shortly rt? if so have you been told the media house that you are going to be with?

If I intend getting in to "making ads"..so should I opt for advertising or audio-visual?

thank you ever so much for taking the trouble of answering these for me!

all the best!

Hi,

Can you throw soem light into the previous years placements from SIMC and the average salary that one can get from this insti.

It is a worrying factor for a lot of applicants.

Hi Saurabh,

BTW can I ask what was your qualification? coz when I contacted NID they said since you are not from the media background you aren't eligible. So just out of anxiety wanted to check if the preference is towards previous experience and previous association. I am a graduate in science (BSc) and have 3 yrs of work ex-1yr as a Team Leader at a contact centre & 2 yrs as a specialist;good at drawing and stuff so will my "non-association" with the media affect my chances of admission?

yup the second round has another written test which is about "media awareness" this would be followed by a gd and pi.All of these would be held in a time frame of 2-3 days supposedly.

Hi

Can u tell me if v need to prepare nething for the media test?????????? Or its jus to test ur basic knowledge?????/ N how is the Gd/Pi like???

SIMC is no resedential programmme wat a disappointment...Dont The Simc guys feel bad about it.....CAn u guys tell me The Placement details..

Student Placements
The SIMC produces dependable entry-level professionals. More than ninety-five percent of our 93 graduating students were picked up through campus recruitment

Also till just a week back they had a more elaborate Placement Brochure embellished on the Exterior but U would only get Site Under Construction if u clicked further. Now there is no trace of it,vamoosed all together.. Fishy? thatz the reason i posted, no hearsay involved...if placements r really great will they not trumpet it like Avg Salary,Median Salary Details.....

Also when u apply it asks for ur chosen specialisation viz Advertisingor PR or Journalism or TV/Media etc, an institute already a specialised one asks u to Choose further specialised course.....makes one Jittery about career options....
ETERNAL OPTIMIST HAD POSTED THIS NOT SO OPTIMISTIC CONCERNS ABOUT SIMC(on another thread), ANY SIMCIAN OUT THERE PLZZZZ QUELL OUR DOUBTS.

anybody at simc plz enligten me,
simc gives diploma in advertising bt not masters degree.does it really affect future prospects career wise.cz in industry people look for masters.plz help.

hey guys
seems u got loads of questions.
first in case u want to make ads, for television, u shld opt fr audio visuals and not advertising,
those who hv questions on d placements, well here it is from an simc ian.
the entire ad and PR batch is placed. Ad-IMRB, O&M;, FCB Ulka, Lowe, JWT, Mindshare, Group M etc.
PR-Genesis, encompass, rams delhi, Good relations. Corporate voice, Adfactors, Ipan, Sampark, Tata steel etc.
AV- Zee, Star, Balaji. equinox, CNBC, IBn, Channel V, Sudhir Mishra etc
journo-NDTv, Ibn, times, etc.
the placements hv been phenomenal, salaries good.
dnt expect magnanimous amounts cos mass comm n comm mngmntdnt really offer great starting salaries but the growth is phenomenal.
AV-35k
PR-15-35
ad-15-35
journo-10-20

well these are approxalries tht ppl hv been offered. there have been multiple offers for loads of ppl.
I am in PR, we hv our internship interviews lined up.
as far as d entrance test is concerned dnt b scared, its media awareness, just update ur info as far as d latest tv/film award winners. brush up ur vocabs, famous films n directors etc. dnt b tensed. just watch a lot of Tv.
dnt worry u dnt need prior experience, u hv to convince the interviewer tht u are very passionate abt ur job. d a bit of homework. this year the competition is huge. heard there r sm 50,000 applicants. but dnt worry. things ll happen.
all d best ppl. keep in touch.
in case u want to mail, mail me at [email protected]
SIMC rocks.n those who were thinking that it shld become residential, ur wishes r comin true, this year v r movin into our new campus, its huge.
but a bit far frm the city, u hv to give up on ur parties a bit.
