Life at XLRI! Episode 2 - Every day is a new surprise!

http://sadashivpradhan.blogspot.in/2014/06/xl-meri-jaan-s01e02-every-day-is-new.html

My last week of IIM Indore was one of a hectic one with full of assignments and case studies. The week passed by just like a day and a hell lot of activities took place within few days.To correct here a bit there is no word like day and night in this b-school.Here everything is about pre and post sleep.A long cycle keeps on running and you tend to take power naps in between these cycles.

I can confidently say that the past week has conditioned me to live my next two years with full rigor and without cribbing. The journey here started with my landing in the college in a group and then landing as the first female candidate in the girl's hostel.I kept my bags ,took my cycle and in a group almost toured the entire campus. The mornings are quite hot here and rainy season is yet to come.We started from our hostel and went down in a spiral to the sports complex. The journey along the mountain was one of an experience.

We have a huge sports complex with all kind of facilities.Right from swimming to tennis to lawn tennis to squash court to gym, you mention it and it was present. After coming up from this visit we had some healthy breakfast in MESS 1.I unpacked my bags, completed my bank formalities, bought some goods from PI shop in the campus and settled my things in the room.As such I was not a person to remain confined in a room I started with my group of friends to again take a detailed tour of the huge and airy campus. We located all the facilities required for our survival in the campus and one should believe me when I say they are more than enough.

Having done all these I started socializing with people. Its not easy to remember all the good 450 people but yes I started with a HI and Hello with most. In fact I welcomed most of them to the hostel as I was the first one to enter.Life in Indore then started with a bang.Seniors started a mock week with us to give us a feel of what was awaiting us in the next 2 years.Assignments were announced every 2 hrs with deadlines of 1 hr.We made groups ,we conspired and we perspired to finish the undo able assignments. We hardly had 1 or 2hs of sleep in 3 days.Google was the only help for us.However "Plagiarism is strictly not allowed  here". This is what we heard every time.

The completed assignments were thrown on us saying to add a cover note or write neatly. We needed to redo our assignments.Yoga started at 4 to 7 and we were made to do all sorts of weird yoga from cat calls to dog barks. All were captured in videos.Classes were taken by seniors and we were advised to be on time strictly. In one way it was good as in reality if we are late in class by even 1 min we would be marked as absent in the class. This would attract a penalty of degrading grade.Such things went on for few days and finally we were given the bakra party. We were shown all kind of weird moments that we faced these days and that was followed by a DJ night. Thus 1 week ended in Indore and soon real classes will start. However this week would be the most memorable week in my PG IIM Indore college.

Episode 3 - For the greater good!

Guest lecture by Gunajit Brahma, Cofounder of JeevAnksh:

“Mobile commerce is all set to initiate a tipping point growth in Indian retail, opening attractive avenues for venture investments”, prognosticates Gunajit Brahma, Guest Speaker at IIM Indore, Mumbai campus. Mr Brahma, cofounder of JeevAnksh, a company centered in organic healthcare and cosmetic products, believes that disruptive innovation is going to be the norm in Indian e-commerce, which he estimates to be worth almost $850 billion by 2020.

Participants of the Mumbai campus had an insightful and thought-provoking afternoon through Mr Brahma's guest lecture. The interactive session sowed much needed inspiration and knowledge to aspiring entrepreneurs, as Mr Brahma neatly outlined the need to innovate on opportunities and overcome challenges. The students were all ears as they were introduced to general models of the operation and business of top e-commerce players, and how today's fiscal and legal frameworks are aiding monetization of innovative ideas like never before. An alumnus of IIM Indore himself, he was quick to adapt his presentation style to the culture of IIM Indore – brevity, data, and cases-in-point.

Gunajit Brahma is also a strong voice for Green technology and environmental initiatives, aptly reflected in his business initiatives as well as his personal life. He believes that JeevAnksh and its products will promote systematic use of organic products, and as scales improve, the health benefits of his products will percolate to large sections of society. With a mission to provide top quality organic products, the company is already marketing successfully in Singapore and other ASEAN countries.
