I think they will consider 100 CAT marks as follow:
they will list down names of d students on the basis of %ile score!
out of all d students who hv applied for PGDBA......student with highest %ile will get 100 marks.....2nd highest will get 99 marks and so on......
ppl wid good work ex and 85 %ile will get least mark frm 100 but they will hv advantage of 15 crucial Work-ex marks!!

its true that 85 %ile will get the least marks.but the way you have said seems illogical.

Nop, this is a wrong assumption

This can never happen that way. They will simply add the marks in all three sections and get a total out of 300 and then normalise it to a total out of 100 as per their marking scheme. We don't need to worry or speculate on this. It should be fair for all.

well i wanted to ask did the soumaiya ppl sent the soumaiya admit card to us as i hvnt got tht..so was wondering wat to do..well i hv a copy of tht wud tht suffice???

SIMSR has not sent the admit card & its not required during the GD/PI process.

Hi all,
this is my first thread ever.....well k j somaiya was the most technical intrvw i hv ever faced.....
they started with an essay on "Industrialisation and Environment: Can they co-exist!!"

the gd was a very generic caselet....a guy wants to apply for a very lucrative job but does nt know much abt the company....he relies on his frnd for info on the co....and his frnd in turn acquires info frm another source....
the case is abt the reliabilty of the info frm the thrid source which is nt so reliable and whether amit (our hero) shud apply for the job!!!! and we play the role of Sanjay his frnd...
2 mins to study the case and 10 mins of discussion and then 20-30 secs of summary.....

well the intrvw was very techhie for me...
i'm ex-air force and one of the panelists (the registrar) is an ex-commander frm the navy and he grilled me on why i left air force and y mba and y leave a gr8 job at hsbc...
also as to technicals of aero dynamics......and air warfare...the guy knew his stuff.....

the other was the director of kj mr Ghai.....his purview was hr...and he grilled me on organisational behaviour and group dynamics and premanent temporariness.....and other technicals of hr....
me being a trainer at hsbc paid off a bit bt then they went too technical even for my comfort.....

overall a very average seection process with no hiccups....

okay one more thng.. if dey r considering proff courses.. den wat abt CA (pee2) aka ca inter.. will dey consider it.. i hope not vaise!:(

yes, CA does have weightage, but i have a feeling that its applicable only if u have completed the CA course/exams/watever. am not sure if the inter only has any value. better cross-check it with more knowledgable sources!

and , havent u recieved the prospectus? they've given a table in there for the marks alloted for academic record. ( many pages behind in the main KJS queries thread, da_pulsar posted the allotment. but dont get into archeological digging. u have the prospectus- check it ou! )

hey, me too an aspirant, not a senior. i remember someone sayin the no of students shortlisted were 2000 odd. so, the no of seats:no shortlisted for PI is pretty low. not bankable, in my opinion.

if my stats are wrong and somebody knows for sure, please correct me.

Date: 11th of March, 2007
Venue: KJ Som, Mumbai

Presentation:
It was handled by the faculty, and not by students, which is the common practice among b-schools. But the professor making the presentation was very straight forward and clarified all queries. When one student asked, if there are student exchange programs, they replied, that there are such programs, but only if the student is ready to pay the living costs involved there. We could see that the highest salary was around 12 lakhs.

Written communication test:
There was an option of writing on any of the two given topics in 15 minutes.

  1. Do Indian sports team require foreign coaches or not?
  2. Can we abolish child labor without causing starvation?

Document verification:
KJ Som only gives credit to the companies which are listed companies. There is no ambiguity on that, and in some cases, they were verifying the company details, by accessing the internet on a notebook PC at the stage where verification process was going on. This was fair.

GD:
Case study, 2 minute for thinking, 13 minutes for discussion, 30 seconds for concluding individually.

After discussion for 4 minutes, GD was at the verge of turning into a fish market condition. Then one of the faculty said: Stop. There is negative marking for cross-cutting others. After that, GD went very nice, all got opportunity to say, and it was smooth. I really appreciate this manner of the invigilators to manage the GD. I have attended 5 GDs this year, all of them fish market. The faculty invigilating there only preached, but no one took such stern action. Kudos to the faculty managing (Group-1) GD at KJ Somaiya.

PI:
Panel of two, both different from those in GD. One lady and one gentleman.

The Prof. went through my background, education, work experience, etc reading aloud to me, and asking some small questions in between.

What is your current job responsibility?
Why do you want to go for mba now?
So you are looking for stream. Why?
Who is the mayor of Mumbai or Thane?
Who is the governor of Maharastra?
Finance minister?
Commerce minister?
Who is the vice president of India?
What is the work of vice president of India?
What are your hobbies? (some small questions on that)

Impression of the institute:
I think everyone should consider KJ Som with more confidence. The infrastructure was good or above average, but the faculty and their approach / attitude was really good.
