Hi,

Hi Can any Alumuni reply on the post or any ongoing MBA student?

There is no set criteria for companies, every company has its own HR and Recruitment paradigms and tries to set criteria accordingly.

For a general reference, I can give u my piece of mind. The criteria varies from sector to sector, I'm giving u the best I image I have from my IIM-C days.

Investment Banks - typically look at scholastic achievements, i.e. apart from your Bschool GPA, your 10th, 12th, Grad score, Where you did your Grad from , your Engg entrance exam ranks, CAT percentile.. Also, relevant work experience helps , Additional professional qualifications like CFA etc helps .. Anything displaying Maths proficiency (olympiads etc) def help. THese criteria are used for shortlisting. Interviews judge more of a personality fit, and again quick thinking on your feet.

Consulting firms - typically look at spikes in your CV. Well rounded academics are important, but you should also have held leadership positions in your past, have a differentiating work ex, or some high achievement extra currics.. like having played at National level at a sport etc. If u have 2-3 of these 4-5 spikes i mentioned u are good to go for a consult interview. Then ofcourse, there's a case to crack in the interview.

Marketing - Colourful personality - again well rounded like having done a bit of everything. Acads don't matter much to them, but should be having good extra curriculars, anything which shows creativity helps.

General Management - Past workex, leadership positions in the past, good extra currics help.

For more specific fields like Systems or Operations, having done relevant courses at the Bschool would help.

Objective Answer:

1) Batch Quality - Lots of Factors including diversity, intake formula, academic quality etc
2) Batch Quantity - Contrary to popular beliefs, Bigger the Better
3) Age of the Institute - Older the Better
4) Industry Interaction
5) Specialised Field - IIM-C for Finance, NITIE for Supply Chain, IITs for IT consulting/Supply Chain and etc etc
6) Alumni Performance - Clout & Name in the Industry
7) Participation in Extra Curricular Activities which are from Industry

Broadly that is about it. Just do a scoring based on these and you will get your answers for pretty much all the companies.
