ISB 2017 Aspirants

A week has passed since i was "de-shortlisted". Haven't received any new invite yet 😞

Have any interview calls been sent out today? For Mumbai?

So Kolkata interview invites expected from tomorrow?

Had my interview on 11/8 in Hyderabad - bit tardy in posting the debrief here. Panel 1, 11:30am. I forgot that I had to report an hour early, arrived at 11:00 post a reminder call from the isb folks, wrote the one word essay on 'Reward'. Interview started before time. Panel: Three alums. Batch of '04, '08 and '12. All three from different fields. Questions: Most of the questions were related to my work experience and what I had written in my essays. Was asked to explain in detail about my role, follow up questions were to cite examples, dig deeper. Couple of questions on my company in the India context(related to what I had written in my application).Since I live and work right next to ISB, short discussion on my experience visiting the campus from time to time. Nothing around why isb/why MBA,etc. Tone: The interview was very conversational, one of the panelists was poker faced the whole time while the other two smiled from time to time. Overall my interview lasted ~35 minutes.

Are bangalore interviews done or anymore planned??

Anyone has any idea??

Anyone received any invites between yesterday and today? Pls reply

Just spoke to Mr. Srinath (Admissions Team, ISB). He has confirmed that all interview calls for Mumbai have been sent out.

I got some kind of an assurance from the Lady who answers the Phone at the Admissions office at the ISB that few more calls for Delhi, Mumbai and even Bangalore/Hyd/ Chennai/ Skype will be rolled out in the next few days after Kolkata calls (Before  Friday).

Hope a lot many of you waiting like me (for my 5 of 75 candidates) get a call.

Wish you all the best.

Any Kolkata calls today?

Hi, I am preparing for GMAT (Class 2017).. while I aim for NUS, ISB happens to be a practical alternative. As on Nov '15 I have 44 months of experience and I earn 11.75 LPA. I am working for a reputed bank in operational risk management.

Do you think ISB makes sense for me or should I only look at international universities?

Please find my ISB interview debrief below:

one word Essay: Articulation

Panel members: 2 (they just told me their names)

Interview duration and place: 35-40 mins, ISB hyderabad campus

In the end, they asked me if i had any questions ?

Dear Vivek,

Thank you for writing in.

We have sent out all the interview invites for Mumbai.

Thank You.

Warm Regards,

Abdul Aziz

I work for a consulting firm. If, during the interview I am asked which clients I have worked with (not the projects or work I have done for them), what should I do?

My company releases names of its clients on its website.

Interview Debrief

Delhi : 22nd November, 2015

Profile : 7+ yrs in Power, costing and estimation

2 panelists, senior alum and a junior alum / current student

The interview started with the profile of the companies I have worked for and the duration in each of them. The senior alum wanted to know how a reverse gear works in a car. I wasn't sure of the answer so humbly told the same as I didn't want to digress early in the interview.

The senior alum then inquired about a 1000 cr winning bid proposal which I had prepared. It was an elaborate discussion on the structure, costing components, contribution, start to finish process. The 3 things which a client can negotiate after bid submission and why I love my current work were the next set of questions.

The senior alum wanted my opinion on the outlook of the energy sector and the 3 things which I will do to improve the sector if I was the Prime Minister. A discussion took place with number crunching data, figures, facts and policy decisions.

The interview then shifted to my interest in monuments and heritage, I was asked about Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. I told them a couple of interesting stories about the sufi saint.

The next set of questions ventured around Why MBA, the 3 things you will learn at ISB and will I accept a job offer from a recruiter who will not consider my complete experience of 7+ years. I told the senior alum about my Plan 'B', the networking I have done, the role I seek and how MBA is the missing link.

The junior alum/current student asked me about a challenging situation I had countered. There were a couple of follow up questions and learning's from the problem.

The senior alum wanted to know why capacity of power plants is in certain denominations. I answered that there is no set pattern as such and that it might be a manufacturer's standard model.

In the end, the panelists inquired if I had any questions for them.

Interview duration : 30 min

A big thanks to @Llewellyn75 sir for crystallizing my thoughts and assisting me immensely through the process. He is extremely patient, curious and eager to listen.
