I am a Mechanical engineer- Project Management( 3.5 yrs work exp) , preparing for GMAT. Looking forward for ISB R1. Having an academics with an avg 90% marks in 10 & 12, 8.02 CGPA, a few extra curricular.
Will try for a good GMAT score > 710 , but after all these, as stated above, what are the deciding factors for getting selected in ISB?

I am Computer science guy with 6 yrs experience in DRDO. I just wanted to know a guy with little or no extracurricular can crack the ISB admission (how much importance does ISB give to extracurriculars while selecting candidates?).

Was called for R2 interview(ISB). Talked about my startup idea. Idea was fresh, there is a need in the market, and my experience was in sync with starting such an organisation. My pitch was that I wanted people with expertise in BD, Marketing to join in too and I was looking for working on the idea and looking for co-founders while at ISB.
The panel argued that with the 25 lakhs I am willing to spend at ISB , it was a better idea to invest that time and money in the start-up whereas my argument was that since I was from a middle class family with no business background, I would not like to go into something without getting it validated from incubation cells and other experts (available at ISB) and also pick up new management skills necessary to run the business. My idea was to start the business 4-5 years after ISB, after having worked at start-ups in a similar field and continuing to build on the idea in parallel during my spare time.
Not sure whether I should question the quality of the panel but both of them were alumni, were younger than me and did not seem to have mature perspectives about complexities in creating and running a start-up (they have probably not been there ever).
I had thought about this during my interview preparations and I seem to have presented valid points which seems to have failed to convince them.
My question is:
a) If I get an interview call next year, can I talk about my start-up idea again? (I am in no financial position to work on my start-up this year)
b) What should a typical career pitch be (What do you want to do post ISB)?

Hi Puys, I am an ISB aspirant with over 8 years experience in analytics. I wish to get a chance to move into strategy consulting. Can anyone shed some light on what are the chances for an ISB student with over 8 years experience getting such a role? How difficult it is? What do the strat consulting firms ( the big 4 and then the next 4 as well) prefer in their students? Can anyone please shed some light on this matter?

2. Professional Experience ( 4 Years 1 month )
1. job 1 (10 months since internship doesnt count ) :Did last one year of internship under a real estate developer as industrial training and after competion of internship continued for 10 months with them under project finance division.
2. Job 2 : IDBI Capital - Investment Banking - Corporate advisoy group - ( 16 Months ) - Debt Restructuring/ Debt Syndication.
3. Start- up own Loan Distribution And Advisory Firm ( will be 23 Months since started up at the time of applying )
MBA - to network with people from BD, Marketing, Branding , Advertising ..so can expand by firm and get a proper structured approach to making a business plan from incubation cells and other experts at isb.

how does isb help any one who has started his own venture or help him grow his venture ? how does isb really prepare someone for entrepreneurship ? does a person who has started his own venture really need mba in entrepreneurship , if so why and if yes then how does isb make him better ? is saying mba onli for networking whether it is justified putting 25 lacs onli for it ?
