ISB 2017 Aspirants

CAT 2015 is scheduled on 29th November and as per some threads in the group ISB interviews for Mumbai are scheduled on 28th and 29th November. Will ISB consider the clash of the dates and move the interview dates ?

Hi everyone, I got interview call for Hyderabad on 14 November. Anyone who have similar schedule and willing for group discussion please let me know. We can work as a group or have regular knowledge sharing. Thanks , Hemanth! None of us is as strong as all of us together

This qn is to all those who have landed interview calls in the past week or past years..

I was just wondering, is there a pattern you folks have noticed with regards to the time gap between the email which confirms the completeness of ones application, and the email which confirms ones shortlist for the interview stage?

Like for eg, is it usually around a week or so only between the two emails? Or no such pattern exists?

Anyone from Mumbai received any calls yet??

Hi. in order to prepare for the interview, can someone pls guide how and where to start?? I am really confused.. should a coaching institute be joined or self prep is suffice? If coaching institute, then which one (Delhi NCR area)/if self prep, then how??@ISBmantra.com @Llewellyn75

Is there a pattern ISB follows while sending out interview invites?

This in an adaptation of the original post:

How are the interview invites sent out? (12 Dec 2013)

In response to Question asked today by @oranje.ya

If you have hit the submit button you're probably pretty anxious.

Here's how things should go:

1. In past years, ISB has released the emails right at the end of the day; they go out in a batch and everyone who's getting invited in the first blast will receive them right around the same time. There are many blasts that will keep going out after the the first one but intermittently till 5 days before the end of the interviews has been announced. (This year ISB has not officially put up the dates on the website but our guess is the invites will keep coming till early Dec 2015)

2. The timing of your ISB interview invite is meaningless.

3. If your friend gets an invite today, but you don't get yours till next week or later, it says nothing about the relative strength of your application. The only thing you can interpret from the timing of an interview invite is if one doesn't come at all. There is literally nothing to do with your GMAT score, career choice, industry, number of years of work ex, gender, how early (or late) you submitted your application, or anything else in terms of who gets invited when. It is that it's just a matter of how many applications are in the pile that the Director Admissions is wading through, and where your application ended up in that stack. If your application is among the top of the stack, and your application is good, you're going to get an invite today/tomorrow. If your application is waiting towards the bottom, your invite will come next week or later.

4. Closer to the dates for Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Mohali & Kolkata candidates will start getting a call. (Again since officially ISB has not announced the dates on the website we only have the telephonic conversations from ISB Admissions team that we can depend upon)

5.If all who need to be interviewed cannot be accommodated with in the scheduled dates for a particular city either panels are added or candidates are asked if they could come over to one of the campuses for the interview via mail or phone. Like it has happened with some Bangalore candidates who have been asked to come to Hyd.

6. You have sometimes only 3-4 days between your interview invite mailer intimation and your actual interview. So be ready to fly out to Hyd/ Mohali/ Delhi/ Kol/ Mum at an hours notice. However don't panic if you don't get flight tickets. ISB so far (even this year) has been very accommodating and has helped candidates genuinely requiring rescheduling.

7. Last but not the least if your application fails to impress even one of the many readers it won't come at all...

Wish you all the best and hope you get a call soon...

I have a few questions about the one word essay -

Is the main motive to test our english and not our content? How long / detailed answer are they expecting? How much time do we have to think and write our answers? Are we asked to write using pen or pencil (basically, can we edit our work)? Can we be asked follow up questions based on our response?

Any insights will be helpful. TIA

Hii,

I have one query related to One word essay .I understand that basic purpose of One word essay is to participant capability in English written communication. But I am still not clear about following points.

1.Do we have choice of selection of word during this test?

2. Is there any time limit to write one word essay?

3. Will this essay be considered in interview?

Clarification will be helpful.

Anybody here who as given an interview as a re-applicant? Anything specific we should keep in while appearing for the interview as a re-applicant (after having appeared for interview once earlier). Please provide your suggestions. @Llewellyn75 @ISBmantra.com Any tips?

Are there any more calls expected for Hyderabad?

@Llewellyn75

Are all calls over for Bangalore? I got verification mail only on 28th Oct.

In the last 2 hours or so... 16 of our candidates from Hyd, Bangalore and Skype got interview invites for 14 Nov ... Happy Children's Day! Wish you all the best. Llewellyn DeSouza #MBAconsulting

How do you approach the interview if you are a Re Applicant?

Typically you will be asked at least two of the following three:

1. Why do you think you got rejected? What went wrong? Etc...

2. How is this attempt of yours going to be better than the last one?

3. How has your profile changed since the last time you applied? (don't make the mistake of assuming they would have read all your essays)

Besides highlighting change in profile like an improved GMAT score or a change in designation, you may want to highlight the intangible aspects like how did you try to make a move towards your goal without an MBA. MOOCs, and pro bono assignments will help your cause here.

If you have had a change in goal itself, reason it out well. It should sound like a mature discussion rather than an attempt based maneuver.

You will not believe me but I have actually heard people say that "Since that goal with which I applied last year did not work, I changed it for this time?"

While answering "Why you think you got rejected?" do not shoot yourself in the foot by saying things like, "I think my ideas then where half baked." You may depend on what ISB gave you as a reason: "Competitiveness of the Pool!"

If you get a chance to explain how how your attempt this time is better than the previous time, be ready with a reasonably long list of things and activities you have undertaken to improve your profile and make yourself a more 'well rounded' individual.

The script does not change much even if you have not been interviewed in your last attempt @Trip1219

Hope this helps @vikulaggarwal

So 'Like' and if you want more 'Follow' me.

I got interview call for 700 on 7th nov..I have 2.5 yrs experince as  analyst in mu-sigma and since 3 years i have been working in my family buinsess of whole sale cement trading. Please if anyone can help , if more questions will be based on my business or job experince cos its nearly 3 years i am out of MNC job.

Some tips on guesstimate questions during ISB interviews:

Contrary to the myth that guesstimate questions are asked only if your post MBA goal is consulting, they can be asked to check your problem solving skills and how you think about a problem irrespective of your career goals. These questions are fairly easy to crack with good amount of practice and a structured approach. While there is no right or wrong answer to a guesstimate question, the approach is more important. Brush up your skills of taking right assumptions and starting with a good market sizing assumption before going into the interview. All the best.

@Llewellyn75 @ISBmantra.com  What is your suggestion for the re-applicant questions they might ask in an interview to the EEO applicants. EEO applicants didn't receive denied admission feedback from ISB. Hence, how should we tackle questions such as "why you believe you were denied admission last year?".

Hi. I heard from some of the guys who had interviewed in the past with ISB that some interviews are only case based discussions. Is it true? Especially if one has written consulting as a career goal post ISB? @Llewellyn75 & @ISBmantra.com . What if one screws up the case?
