I dont want any jokes around here... just plain serious talk....So.. lets get to business!!!! There are soooo may ppl registered with us & i am sure there are quite a few takers for GMAT & ISB.. So... where do u guys stand???
Me finished my GMAT last week.. got a pathetic score.. 630 (Ver - 31 & Quan - 45).. Dont ask me what went wrong becos... even i dont know... 
My diag said atleast 680 plus...But anyways... i dont have time to worry about that....'cos i know... i have put in close to a month's efforts... with hectic work in office (close to 10 - 12 hrs).. this is all i could manage!!!!
So.. what are my chances at ISB... anybody from ISB... or someone who knows alumini... current students etc etc... Pls pitch in with your comments & suggestions... Am actually in two mind...
My stats go like this.....
Woman (As PG says... thats the strongest point I have!! )
Close to 5yrs work ex - in telecom field on Optical & Wireless Hardware Planning(currently supervise/techie side)
GMAT - 630
Undergrad - First Class With Distinction
Will possibly get Good recos
Extra curicular activities to some extent...

I had been to ISB's seminar here soemtime back. Well they emphasised more on work experience and recos as compared to GMAT. And I do very well remember them saying they encourage women managers (even have some Nestle scolarship or soemthing). Its defly a huge plus-point.
And your GMAT score not all that bad (though with 650 you could have gone for it blindly). So my two cents would be you can go for it.
I dont know any contacts at this moment on ISB but I am on the lookout anyway.

Hmmm.. Dont these ISB guys have a forum or something where they can discuss such things... My word on this guys... If i make it to ISB or any other good school in the world.. I will surely start out advising future students...Take My word for that!!!
But No... praveen... i guess all these scholarships are for those who have a tremendous GMAT scores becos.. they are awarded along with the admission letter!!! Dont see my chances here... Lets wait & see what others have to say!!!! But hey ... Thanks for your views... 😁 😁

plus, regding apping in R2, I think u can have another crack at GMAT .. cross 700 & have solid shots at ur choice of schools. Anyways for others schools in US also, R1 is over.. but again just voicing my opinion ..
regding schols@ISB.. some schol letters hv already been handed out to some admits to the tune of 1-2 lacs. better check out urself.
regding GMAT .. theres a 770'ian on board .. called by username arboreal_s'thing ..

and yes simba, gmat is just one of the things in the whole app package. a good gmat score helps with the schols . yes. becoz schools want to have a higher gmat average. but any factor which makes u stand out, should do the trick.

If i apply to ISB or not.. but seriously... if i get a 700+ GMAT... me wont app to ISB....rather look abroad... 😃 😃 .. Ya...capreal... Money is an issue in what sense.. applying wise.. or funding the program... if its former.. what the hell we already busted 200-225$ on GMAT... & if its the latter... with that score.. god... u have a great chance at the scholarship they give in ISB.. just work on ur essays & application in general... 😃 😃 ...
I know Shameek... But have been outta studies close to 5 yrs... it would have been good if i had atleast 700...but hmmm... now.. am thinking of apping to ISB afterall.... 😃 😃

Me gave GMAT in June 2003, managed a score of 690(would have loved to cross the 700 mark..but don't know wat happenned!!...Powerprep was always a cakewalk).
From wat i have gathered about ISB, it gives a lot of importance to work-ex. With close to 5 years, u stand a pretty good chance. Just to give u an idea:
Average ISB Stats:
Gmat: 690
Work-ex: 4 years
Age: 26
Well, as for me, I dont think I will apply this year, coz. my work-ex is less(around 1.5 years in a big fat IT company). The ISB application has got around 5 essay questions n it does take time to write them...with one of them being a case-study.
BTW, with work-ex of 5 years, ur age (4 yrs.) is less than ur work-ex

Hmmm..just have a look at the info below my Avatar. There is an icon(right at the bottom) which answers ur question. Regarding the yahoo groups procedure:
1. Key in the group name at their groups home page.
2. Click on the link displayed and when, the page loads, click on "Join this Group" n u r ready to gooooo.
Coming to the Essay questions: Some of them are easy like the one on leadership n the Post-ISB plans but i guess the critical assessment and the case study require some thought.
BTW u switched streams before???(just asking out of curiosity) coz, reliance wasn't there in the telecom sector 5 years back n at that time, telecom sector reforms were still in their nascent stages.

what makes u think that 5 yrs in RELIANCE.. i would have been Mukesh's Right hand man by now....
.. its close to 5 yrs... & varied experience in diff levels.. started out as a s/w consultant.. s/w engineer... ditched it in months... found telecom.. was associated with Nortel products.. moved into RIL about close to a year.. or lesser... 😃 😃 Cheers!!

Any info on the scholarships avlbl in ISB and the %age of the total cost it could cover? Does it depend on all-round profile or would they look at only ur GMAT score? If the latter, what is the expected score? :!: :
I'm not sure with 3 years exp. it would be a right thing, but then again, since I;m prepg. for CAT, am quite keen to take GMAT this time- shuld be valid 5 years- so work ex could catch-up. Taking GMAT again would imply $200 again. Also Toefl and the app fee makes it ~ 20K bucks for the ISB appln, I think 😞
BTW, about applying abroad- any site/stuff where u can get some info on the funding/scholarships? :

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the J N TATA ENDOWMENT LOAN SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2004-05 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines. Selected scholars may also qualify for gift awards.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should be graduates of a recognised Indian university, with a consistently good academic record. Students in the final year of the degree course and those awaiting results are eligible to apply. Academics and other mid-career professionals with a good academic background and experience in their fields who wish to go abroad for further specialisation will also be considered.
Candidates applying for the scholarship should have applied for admission to universities abroad for the Fall 2004/Spring 2005 semesters. Applications of students awaiting admissions abroad will also be considered. However, the final award is subject to their securing admission.
Selection Process
Candidates found suitable after the initial screening will be short-listed for an interview in person by subject experts. The final selection will be on the basis of the interview, which will be held in Mumbai between March and June 2004.
Procedure For Applying
Application forms will be issued from the administrative office of the Endowment at Mulla House, 51 M. G. Road, Mumbai 400 001, on payment of Rs100/- by cash or by Money Order. The applicants should give their full name and address in the Space for Communication provided on both sides of the money order form. The last date for the issue of application forms is January 30, 2004.
The completed application forms should reach the chief executive officer, J N Tata Endowment, Bombay House, 24 Homi Mody Street, Mumbai 400 001, not later than Monday, February 16, 2004.
