Institute of Actuaries of India-Actuarial Common Entrance Test (ACET)

hi friends!!
any idea about how high cut-off can go in this june'12 acet ?? i believe it would be around 60-70%. wat do u say??

hi sanchit!!
to reply ur 1st ques-
there is no fixed order for passing CT exams. u can give 1 or more in a sitting. After 8 CT papers u can give CA, ST & SA . I believe one has to pass 2 exams each in these and one can opt papers of their choice out of life, general, pensions or fin & investment.

Generally after passing 2-3 papers of CT students gets training and study & exams goes together. Unlike ICAI, IAI does not prescribes any fixed time for doing traing. Student can opt it as when like.It is also better if u start ur training as early as possible..

2nd-
Regn. for jan'13 acet may start in nov'12 and u will get study material from IAI only after regn. U need not worry much if u ve studied maths at +2 level, as 2 months is generally sufficient for acet.

Ya..even i got 2 questions to which there was no answers correct..both of them were 2 marks..and i really doubt that any 5 mark question ka answer wrong ho sakta hai..but fingers crossed...cut off can b high..another 9 days for results..

luking at the 20-25% of success rate and level of questions given in test, it should go above 60 ( just my guess)

I got a question related to co-efficient of skewness , which had wrong options and it carried 5 marks...

1. Guys im gonne give the ACET , december attempt ,registration fees is 3000K , so i would like to know will i get any study material for ACET after registration ??
2. im little weak in integration and differentiation , will this be any problem ???
3. does integration syllabus include trigonometry ???

1) Yeah, you'll get soft copy of study mat as soon as you register.

2) If you know it already, you also know what to do: practice. You got enough time. Although the level of problems is very easy in ACET. But still if you'd like to pursue actuary tests in future, practice basic maths well.

3) Yeah it's included, the syllabus is basically complete +2 level maths and additionally...some topics in statistics like correlation, regression etc.

Yeah, I had the same question on my set. I selected one which appeared to be a misprint of the correct answer. Let's see. Will lose 7.5% straight if wrong

3000k, seriously .

1. Yes, u will get it after registration.
2. Integration and differentiation is integral in this course. If u want to give ACET start taking care of that.
3, Geometry - I dont think so.

Can't we send them a feedback regarding this?

hi sujith!!
the regn. fees is Rs.3000/-(three thousand only)
U will get module after regn.
Good news for u is that Diffn. & Integration does not include hard core trignometry as it used to be in +2 or higher level. but yes its very important part of actuary syllabus..so try to master it..all d best..

hi piyush!!
i think u shud write to IAI on this. In fact in Jan'12 there was similar situation and later on they issued supplementary result after that. U can also check out IAI's site.

I agree with you CR that cut-off wud be around 60% as paper was not very typical. But in Jan'12 pass rate was around 40%. lets c wat hapens this time. Fingers crossed ..

All d best piyush!!

thanks ashish for the reply
one other thing i was concerned about is the passing criteria...it hasnt been clearly specified what passing criteria is. i have noticed guys discussing about cutoffs and all here so, is that that we all will be provided certain percentiles based on our marks and then we will be selected????? is it???
also besidee acet, plzz also let me know what is the passing criteria for CT series exams
are CT series exams also computer based MCQs or they are written paper exams
thanks in advance

hi sanchit!!
IAI does not discloses its pass criteria. The cut off is just guessed on the basis of past result and the level of paper. For CTs also they neither specify the passing marks nor do they disclose it. But its generally more than 50% as i ve come to know. So u can say its both qualifying & competitive in nature.

CT onwards its descriptive paper.

thanks ashish
another thing is that is the study material provided by institute is sufficient enough to clarify the basic concepts and derivations or is there any other maths or stats book which is nicely written for self study purpose that can help me to understand concepts nicely
i have been good in maths till 12th but i still want to work on ma concepts and how formulas nd all are derived, coz m comfortable with solving questions of integration etc etc. so plzz do suggest any good book for going deep into the concepts, rathar than just working on problems as we used to do in 12th class
same goes for stats, i have studied almost whole of the stats syllabus in school time or CA CPT or Bcom. but the thing i require to study is the concepts and derivations in statistics. i hope u r getting ma point dude...!!!!

so plzz do suggest if institutes book is well enough for clarity or should i go with any other maths and stats book that deeply covers all these concepts

I think those study materials are better than most of the self-help book u can find. They have explained the concept well and it has been done in a manner in which u wont feel bore or something. It's good.

i read on actuaries website that we can give max. of 3 papers at a time when we move on to our CT series. so how does the institute mark us, if i have appeared for 2 papers my combined marks will be considered and then it will be decided if m pass in both or fail on both????
OR does the IAI considers each paper as separate, means if i have appeared for Ct1 and CT2, then my chances of passing in CT1 is based solely on my performance in CT1 and it has got nothing to do with what i have done in my CT2 paper. in other words are there chances that i will pass in one ( say CT1 ) and fail in the other ( say CT2 )
which of the above two assumptions taken by me are correct...plzz enlighten me
