U did 4 yrs of engg. (otherwise u'll not get IM in SPJ), then worked in an IT company for 1-3 yrs (again unwritten rule to get IM in SPJ), then opted for IM in SPJ ... finally all these to sell soaps (no offense just pun intended).

Common!! if after doing so much of IT ur not sure if u finally want to end up in IT then better opt for Marketing (that's closest to general management) or even Fin or ops.

Okie to clarify, an IM participant can get into
1. IT companies - role of Project Mgmt, Business Analyst or Business Development (pre-sales)
2. Any consultancy firm - IBM (BCS), Cap Gemini E&Y;, Kpmg, Accenture, TSMG, Delloite and others
3. General Mangement - TAS, GE and others (they just don't care abt specialization)

In case IM participants wants to opt for FMCG or Banks, he/she has to join their IT division - P&G;, HSBC, ICICI, Marico, Asian Paints etc

But if ur looking for Hard core fmcg marketing or treasury deptt. in bank, then IM is not the specialization for u. But I suppose that's very logical.

Thanx for precisely answering my doubt...!
Btw, when I meant non-IT companies I wanted to know whether IM students are eligible for General Mgmt Cos like GE/TAS....or they are tagged as 'ONLY I.T. People'....which u have answered...Thanx!

As far as just for selling soaps, does one need an MBA from SPJIMR...any MBA from some Jhumritaliya institute should suffice ;)!
