The summers process got over couple of days back. Hope below stuff gives you all the info u need about the experience that was summers in IIMB.... here goes -
The 13th of November marked a historic day for IIM Bangalore as the institute completed the summer placement process for first year students in record time. The batch of 253 students, the largest ever batch at IIM Bangalore, was placed in a short span of only five days. The summer placements kicked off on the 9th of November (Day Zero) with 28 of the most renowned firms in international business coming down to the Bannerghatta Road campus. The list of recruiters included the usual list of heavyweights from the corporate world like Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, JP Morgan and McKinsey and Co.

The Investment Banking firms, the most coveted recruiters on campus, recruited for more locations and profiles this year, with several of the big banks recruiting for both their capital markets and IBD businesses. Joining IIM Bangalores already impressive list of recruiters were Macquarie Bank from Australia, ABN AMRO, Depfa Bank and BNP Paribas. One of the highlights of the process was the lateral profiles offered by leading firms such as Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, which are similar to the profiles being given at the leading B-Schools in the west, standing as testimony to the growing global recognition of the IIM Bangalore brand.

The proportion of students choosing to join Investment Banking is the highest this year, closely followed by consulting. The largest recruiters this year were Lehman Brothers (17 students), followed by Merrill Lynch (15), JP Morgan (9) and Goldman Sachs (. In all, 127 candidates were placed during Slot Zero (the first two days of placements). This comprises 50% of the batch, the highest across all Indian business schools.

The summers process also saw a record number of the worlds biggest consulting firms recruiting on campus. McKinsey and Co., Bain and Co. and AT Kearney were first time recruiters at IIM Bangalore, and recruited 11 students. Besides these firms, regular recruiters like the Boston Consulting Group and Deutsche Post World Networks were also on campus. In all 19 students accepted offers from consulting firms in slot 0.
What truly set this years placement process apart, though, was the arrival of a number of Private Equity firms who chose to recruit exclusively from IIM Bangalore. Chrys Capital, Indias largest Private Equity investor visited the IIMs for the first time. In addition, the International Finance Corporation (the private equity arm of the World Bank), Barings Singapore, Temasek Holdings (the Singapore governments investment arm), Sabre Abraaj Capital, Barings India and Goldman Sachs Private Equity visited the campus with Temasek and Barings Singapore hiring exclusively from IIMB.

Slot One saw 36 firms hiring from IIMB for a variety of roles, including Finance, Marketing, Operations and IT and Slot Two witnessed a number of new recruiters like Nike, Ranbaxy, RPG and Emerson Climate. As in Slot Zero, there were a number of companies who were coming down for recruitment for the first time, including top international consulting firms like Deloitte, Mercer and MH Alshaya. As proof of the increasingly global outlook of Indian firms, a significant number of them like ICICI, the Tata Administrative Services, US Technologies, MH Alshaya and Ocwen offered a choice of international locations across Europe, Middle East and South East Asia to its interns. In all, 101 students from IIM Bangalore will be spending the next summer interning abroad, while 152 will intern in India, compared to the 67 foreign and 166 domestic offers last year.

IIMB has reaffirmed its position as one of the premier business schools in the Asia Pacific region by virtue of these placements. And yes, As usual we let the numbers do all the talking.

Phew thats a lot of ccp. Now, if anyone wants to know more stuff, shoot away:satisfie:

Day zero includes consults like BCG and AT Kearney and I-banks like merill lynch, JP Morgan, Lehman Brothers (IBD) and Goldman Sachs who provided India placements.

Incidentally 127 is the highest day zero figure (mind you, we're talking about individuals placed and not multiple offers to the same guy. If one counts offers, that would cross 200 easily) across all batches across all Indian b-school campuses EVER. So is the 101 foreign placements figure.

Thats a 100% improvement over last year's figures!

the freak

Congo guys, you rocked big time

Yes, I agree with Sam17, it would be wise to hold off the "best among any B school ever" tag before all the institutes come with heir reports.

Eh? whoever said anything abt being the best among any b school? I have seen many a inter b school friendship go for a slide down that slope:( Would be great if you could point out any post which gave such an impression:neutral: Besides a good summer placement season is not necessarily a passpost to B School hall of fame.

Good show IIMB !!!

IIMA placement report should be out by tomorrow and so will be my personal description of the entire thing 😃

Congrats to all PGites.

So in all the hunky dory stories about IBanks and MCs - the other side gets hidden

My very good friend who is in PGP-II is struggling with getting decent placements all because he had 5yrs prior IT experience before he got to IIMB. Now the IBanks won't touch him with a ten foot pole.

So along with the sunshine there is got be some rain somewhere

Arun

very true. people who are heavy on work ex end up getting short changed at indian b school summer placements esp when it comes to i - banks

I doubt this. At least in IIMB, the IBanks have not shown any marked preference for freshers. The workex factor, while it might not be a plus, has certainly not been a minus as far as I have seen. Consults on the other hand, were a slightly different story. While there were some workex heavy junta who cracked consults, the general opinion was that consults didnt take to workex that much.
