The Reality of India’s Rising GDP Numbers A quick look at the numbers: the GDP for FY 2016-17 has been revised upwards from earlier estimates of 7-7.5% projected in the mid-year economic review, to 7.6%. Overall growth is expected to be driven largely by the growth in the manufacturing sector. But economists and analysts have publicly expressed doubts about the new numbers, which have been revised based on a new method of calculating GDP. The new method uses FY 2011-12 as the base year instead of FY 2004-05. The revised calculation also incorporates more comprehensive data on corporate activity, and newer surveys of spending by households and informal businesses. The new method is based on gross value added (GVA) at market price rather than factor costs. These changes in calculation methods has brought Indian GDP calculations more in line with global practice. The problem The popular and official view is that the Indian economy is growing, but high frequency data suggest otherwise. The GDP data for the current financial year had estimated manufacturing sector growth at an annual 12.6% during October-December, but the latest numbers for the IIP indicate a mere 0.9% rise during the same quarter. The gap is surprising. The government, however, maintains that the two sets of contradictory numbers are based on different methods of calculation. The change in change The change in measuring the GVA in the manufacturing sector needs to be understood properly. The performance of the sector was previously evaluated using data from the IIP and the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), which comprises over two lakh factories. The new method uses more comprehensive data on corporate activity. Earlier, ASI data was also used to gauge activity in the manufacturing sector, but now firms’ annual accounts filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs are used, which includes around five lakh companies. All seems well here. But the problem is with methodology adopted. According to R Nagraj, an independent member of the sub-committee that examined the new methodology to estimate output, the version adopted by the Central Stastical Organisation differs dramatically from the report finalised by the sub-committee in September 2014. The difference between the estimates of GVA in manufacturing (FY 2012-13) highlighted by the two versions of the sub-committee report is as high as 108%. This obviously raises doubt about the growth numbers unless a rational justification is put forward. A look at other indicators A huge pile of burgeoning NPAs is pushing many state-owned banks into losses. Nine PSU banks have suffered a combined loss of 11,251 crore rupees for the December quarter. The mayhem in the stock market led to the BSE Sensex losing 6.7% and touching a new low (22,951.83) during the week till Thursday (February 11), while the Nifty also fell below 7,000 and closed 3.32% lower at 6,976.35 points, its lowest close since May 9, 2014. An accelerated sell-off by foreign institutional investors on the weak global economic outlook and concerns over the health of some of the Indian banks triggered the market turbulence. India’s merchandise exports shrank for the 13th month in a row in December. According to latest data, exports contracted 14.75% to $22.3 billion, while imports shrank 3.9% to $33.9 billion, amounting to a trade deficit of $11.7 billion. According to the Ministry of Commerce, exports are projected to decline by 13% from the previous year’s level to $270 billion in 2015-16, with a trade deficit of around $120-125 billion. The government’s previous target of exporting goods and services worth $900 billion by 2020, increasing India’s share in world exports to 3.5% from 2%, now looks abstract. India’s farm sector imports are on a risedue to two consecutive droughts and untimely rainfall. For the first time in 16 years, corn was purchased last month. India exported 2.8 million tonnes of corn in 2014-15; the government is likely to import 2 million tonnes of corn in 2015-16 and again in 2016-17. Domestic corn prices have risen over the past six months. The domestic production of lentils is falling short of the demand. Imports of protein-rich lentils are expected at a record 5 million tonnes this fiscal year, with similar volumes expected next year. Wheat stocks in warehouses are depleting fast. Although the stocks are enough for now, expectations of lower output this year after a poor crop in 2015 may fast deplete the stocks and force the government to import wheat. Back to growth numbers If the revised methodology is to be applied to previous years, then the Congress-led UPA government was not doing as bad as thought. But the new methodology appears questionable given that GDP numbers and high frequency data like auto sales (mostly two wheelers), growth in bank credit etc. seem to be moving in opposite direction, defying conventional economic logic. Amid the confusion over the reality of economic growth, alternative forecasts are emerging, with some economists devising new techniques to gauge economic growth. Ambit Capital estimates show that economy may have grown at an annualised 5-6% in the October-December quarter. Citigroup has developed a heat map of 18 economic activities, according to which growth would more closely correspond with trends under the old GDP calculation method under which India showed below 5% growth for a long spell. The Reserve Bank of India too is turning to hybrid models that mix elements of the old and new GDP methods to get a better picture of the economy.

I was just preparing and kept on writing exams in Dec 2016, Jan-feb-march 2017 without waiting for results...jo galtiyan hoti thi ek paper me be it time management or choice of questions i made i try to cover them up and not to repeat the same in upcoming exams..... khud pata lag jaata h aapko k aapne kahan galti kari or kahan behtar kr skte the exam me similarly i knew it i was lacking sumwhere and missing final selection bcoz i used to see k last year cutoff kya thi us hisaab se mere attempts kya hone chahiye to i tried attempting that much of questions for the sake of just reaching that number of attempts which i predicted to be safe attempts acc to last year's cutoff(without having any idea ki exam kesa ayega) but jese changed pattern and level badh k exams a rhe the there was need of getting high accuracy rather than high attempts...bcoz as everyone knows nows cutoff depends on level of exam and some other factors.... ese hi khud se seekhte samajhte sudhaarte in the end of Dec 2016 I decided k bhale attempts kitne kam reh jaye i wud not do blind guesses... One can control over maximum accuracy in quant nd reasoning easily but in eng GA and comp blind guesses always happens with everyone jo accuracy ki band bajwate hai so there I said to myself NO MORE BLIND GUESSES... and went on to write IBPS CLERK VI mains on 1 jan 2017(When everyone was celebrating new year)... I remember before exam, during exam just one thought i was clinged to and kinda repeating was" no blind guesses keep calm".... ab tk ka sbse kam attempts(around 100 attempts) waala paper tha vo(after exam cudnt believe myself itne kam attempts me kese hoga in 2015 cutoff was way higher but fir bhi khushi thi k jo socha practice kiya vo i successfully did) was not that much satisfied with my performance but aage or exams the to jo ho chuka uske baare me jaada bina soche have to prepare further...wrote NIACL AO MAINS, IPPB MAINS, RBI ASSISTANT MAINS(accuracy achhi rkhne ki koshish krte hue, IPPB achha ni hua uska pata tha nahi hoga clear), NIACL AO Mains itna achha hua tha as per me and i was so sure k with avg int marks i wud be thru this one... didnt prepare much for RBI assistant mains to vo bhi jaada achha ni hua... got cleared NIACL AO mains... was very happy(as here all know and wud agree AO is considered better than PO)Gave int for NIACL AO and IBPS PO in Feb2017..dono k avg interview hue the...but due to NIACL AO MAINS....I was so hopeful k NIACL to clear hoga hi... bohot kuch plan kr liya tha and bohot kuch dreams ki selection k baad kya krna h....The result day i.e. on 7th March(was in bday celebration of my niece) around 7 PM result was declared...saw PDF kahin naam nahi tha... tears rolled down but holded them cudnt express i was blank...( ibps PO VI k marks a gye the they were not satisfactorily high knew somehow mushkil h final selection, IPPB ka exam bigad chuka tha and RBI bigaad liya tha NIACL ki umeed me) koi further achha exam nahi tha... while coming back home was just crying...cried whole night, deleted whatsap, hike and any other app( again the same feeling hopelessness all around, nowhere to go, kuch ni socha poori raat was just crying over my broken heart, dreams, hopes and pichle ek saal ki mehnat)very next morning told my parents nahi hua, ( with deleted accounts some close frnds came to know bcoz they knew mere liye kitna importnt tha vo selection) calmed myself down samjhaya koi ni i'll prepare more kahin kami h abhi bhi will try to rectify that kabhi to hoga.... again started from scratch.... Then on 1st April 2017... IBPS result day... first was PO VI result... Even knowing it already k nahi hoga when i saw ""not shortlisted"" something again broke inside me... disheartened...locked myself up in washroom... cried my heart out...(akhiri umeed bhi toot gyi)... then somehow with wet eyes I login for clerk result and there i saw ""SELECTED""... To be honest was not happy at frst but thodi der me i cud feel the happiness.. told parents (they were happy and said beta govt job mil gyi...mehnat wasool ho gyi) I smiled.... :) 😄 (khushi is baat ki thi k jo gharwalo ko lag raha tha k BOB PGDBF chhod k galti ki vo kuch compensate hogi... instead of paying 4 lacs and waiting for1 whole year to get job i earned it and will get my frst salary soon that thought made me laugh and glad... 😄 Joined UNION BANK in may end(with the thought of keeping preparation ON bcoz the target was not yet achieved),NIACL ASSISTANT final result came during training of CLERK so decided not to go for that and some other reasons... Cleared SBI PO gave int but finally not selected... jab bhi result aata tha and remained unselected bohot bura lagta tha but ye pata tha k give up krna nahi h...selection k alawa option h hi nahi koi doosra... besharmo ki tarah ek do din baad firse kamiyan analyse krte hue chaalu ho jaate... ese krte krte or bhi exams diye(have already mentioned in last to last post,ab to exam dete dete senior citizen jese feel hone laga tha centre par 😂 ) and on 1st April 2018, after 1 complete year got what i missed earlier....IBPS PO VII...Finally selected...( poore 2 years 3 months baad went outside to celebrate)... cant express in words kya behetreen feeling thi... :)poori journey aankhon k saamne flashback me a gyi.... behad alag khushi hoti h sach me jab aap khud ki nazro me vo respect earn krte ho... aaj papa proud feel krte hain... or unke chehre pr vo sukoon apni taraf se jo unhe ek relief diya vo words me descrbe kiya hi nahi ja skta... i hope yahan sbko ye mauka jaroor mile apne parents ko ye proud moment dene ka... Already kaafi kuch likh diya h..
to end this i wish, everyone here who really doesnt see any other option except to be selected in whatever he/she aims for, they all get selection aaj nahi to kal ho jayega aapko bs poori imaandaari k saath eforts lagane h... Distract hona na hona aapke uppar depend krta h...u just have to keep the focus upright.... bado waali baat h par sach h ki abhi ki gyi mehnat baadme araam degi or jo aaj maje kr rhe vo baadme lagenge...competition tough hota ja raha h vacancies reduce ho rhi scams ho rhe yhi sb kaafi h moral down karne ko but still u have to be ur own motivator.... ek baar dil lagage k mehnat krlo baaki sb apneaap mil jayega.... bcoz no one is going to do it for u in the end U HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN HERO... 😄 ALL THE BEST.... 👍
PS : ye less attempts high accuracy waala funda jahan bhi rkha mene waha exam clear hua... IBPS CLERK VI, NIACL ASSISTANT,IBPS PO VII,(almost every mains exam was cleared) and aage kaam krega k nahi will surely tell u after RBI assistant final results... 😂
will suggest u to keep that practice whatever suits u best and yields favourable results for u.... 🙌

Let me tell you a story .
I was in the first year of engineering , everyone in my batch consider me as a Die hard and a blind supporter of BJP , some muslim friends considered me as a Hindu extremist and friends who were from SC/ST background considered me as a "Dalit" opressorr . It was just because I never accepted those claims they put on government during a debate . But as months passed they started listing to my arguments and as I started a swachh bharat movement in my locality , I got huge support and my batchmates started believing me and till I promoted in 3rd year , I have the support of 80% of my batchmates regarding the policies of present BJP goverment . It was the year 2017 just before uttarpradesh assembly elections . All of us promoted BJP on social media , I promoted BJP in my locality from door to door.
Conclusion :
Don't listen if someone start talking rubbish about BJP or narendra modi , just believe in the policies of government and make others to believe in BJP too . You know a big lobby is active on social media whose only purpose is to defame Narendra Modi and Present Goverment . This lobby inculdes journalists , actors , comedians who without any reason are trying to bully BJP fans by calling them bhakts.
So it is not the time to get offend , it is time to support the government by making people aware of the policies of government so that they can know that this government is really working for the welfare of people.
How to do this ?
- Start swaach bharat abhiyan in your locality.
- Make people aware of government policies whenever you get a chance .
- Clear the confusion among the people Regarding the government .
- Tell them , if they will not vote for BJP , what worse can happen ? Like Rahul as PM .
- Tell them if we lost 2019 election , pseudo liberal and anti national forces won't let this country survive for more than 10 years.
- Sagarika Ghosh , kanhiya kumar , umar khalid , prakash raj , kamal hasan will be the new torch bearer of india.
- Points 5 and 6 are only fictional , it's not going to happen .
- At last I will only say that , have faith on this government because after 70 years of blunders and corruption we have a stable goverment that is working actually for the welfare of people and trying to make Bharat a great country again .
