2018 Index Of Economic Freedom: India Leapfrogs 13 Places To 130

 

For 2018 edition, India’s economic freedom score was 54.5, registering an improvement of 1.9 points as compared to previous year.

 Economic Freedom in the context of this index, refers to a free society, wherein individuals are free to work, produce, consume and invest in any way they please and governments allows free movement of labour, capital, and goods. 

India has been ranked 133rd in a global list of the happiest countries, according to a UN-based report. The World Happiness Index 2018, which measures 156 countries in terms of happiness, has placed India in the 133rd position, a drop of 11 places from last year's 122nd rank. The country was ranked 118th in 2016. India's ranking was far behind from other neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Nepal and China to name a few. Among the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, Pakistan was ranked 75th, while Nepal was ranked at 101st. Bhutan has been placed at 97th rank and Sri Lanka at 116th position. Bangladesh is ranked at 115th in the happiness index. Myanmar, which is embroiled in the ethnic violence between the majority Buddhists and the minority Rohingya Muslims has been placed at 130th position. Only war-ravaged Afghanistan fared worse than India, as the former was ranked 145th..

Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2018: India shows improvement in growth and global knowledge skills, jumps up 11 ranks since last year

 India has "increased substantially" its score in the latest international Intellectual Property (IP) index released by the US Chambers of Commerce today, ranking 44th out of 50 countries.

India's overall score has increased substantially from 25 per cent (8.75 out of 35) in the fifth edition of the Index to 30 per cent (12.03 out of 40) in the sixth edition, according to the annual report prepared by the Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) of the US Chambers of Commerce.

Press freedom rankings: India slips 3 places to 136, ‘Modi’s fake nationalism’ blamed India slipped three places in the 2017 world press freedom rankings to 136th among 180 countries, the dismal performance blamed on “Modi’s nationalism” and growing “self-censorship” in the mainstream media. In the index released on Wednesday, India was ranked just three places above Pakistan and was one notch below violence-torn Palestine. India’s neighbours Bhutan and Nepal were placed at 84th and 100th rank, respectively. “With Hindu nationalists trying to purge all manifestations of “anti-national” thought from the national debate, self-censorship is growing in the mainstream media,” the report from media watchdog Reporters without Borders said. India was ranked 133 last year.
