SEBI orders freezing of bank accounts of two sahara firms...
Securities and Exchange Board of India has ordered the freezing of bank accounts of two Sahara group firms and top executives, including group chief Subrata Roy in investor money refund case. SEBI has also ordered the attachment of all movable, immovable properties in the name of Subrata Roy, and three others. The apex court had on August 31 last year directed Sahara India Real Estate Corporation (SIREC) and Sahara Housing Investment Corporation (SHIC) to refund around Rs 24,000 crore to their investors within three months with 15 per cent interest per annum for raising the amount from its investors in violation of rules and regulations.
The Supreme Court had earlier said that Sebi is free to freeze accounts and seize properties of two Sahara group firms for defying court orders by not refunding Rs 24,000 crore to investors.
