Few filters you need to apply before gathering information about the Banks while filing your preference:
a) Don't consider subjective experiences from working POs. They almost always badmouth their banks. They will all tell you how their bank is the worst. Instead, make objective criteria. And gather more facts like training duration, Promotion policies, the criterion of posting, etc. And use your wisdom based on what matters to you and what certainly doesn't.
b) While generally you may get posting in a particular region because of a Bank's bias in that region, it doesn't always work. So, if you are downgrading a strong Bank over a weak one, solely because it has a few more branches in your region, you may be making a mistake.
c) Don't consider the date of Joining. It is not a characteristic. The banks which made the offer early enough this year may be laggards next year and vice-versa. Some Banks which hire in large numbers may even send their offers in batches. PNB used to do this. Also, a delay of a month or two is not worth risking everything else over.
d) The number of Vacancies is irrelevant. Be objective. You may even be asked about your preferences in the Interview.
