My interview experience IBPS PO 2015-16.

Place - Maplewood Hotel, Ranchi, Jharkhand

Date - 20/01/2016, Afternoon Batch

Panel - 2

Serial No - 22(Last) Same as in IBPS RRB 2015-16.

After waiting for over 5 and a half hour, I was called for document verification. It took an hour more to reach the panel.  There were 3(M1, M2, M3) males and 2(F1, F2) females in the panel.

Opened the door and asked for permission to come in. They said "yes". I greeted them. They called me by my name and asked me to have a seat.

F1 - Mamma's boy or Daddy's boy?

Me - Both

F2 - No select one.

Me- Mamma

The females were overjoyed and even took a pinch on male panelists and all started laughing.

M1 - Introduce yourself.

Me - Started with my name and family members, as I told about my brother who is employed, he interrupted and said "You are unemployed and your younger brother is working", I said "Yes, but I had worked with HCL earlier"

M1- Then why change the industry and how will you cope up with this change?

Me- I answered but it seemed like he was least interested.

M2- Okay beta, let's get it done quickly, as you're the last person to be interviewed. Do you know about banks?

Me- (I was very upset with them as they wanted to finish it in no succession.)Still answered "Yes"

M2 - Good. RBI?

Me - Yes

M2 - Tell me about RTGS, NEFT

Me - Told about them, made a slight mistake, but corrected and explained properly.

M1- what is IMPS?

Me - (Instantly) sorry sir, He explained IMPS. And I nodded my head like I am his dumb student.

M1 - How does OLA Cabs work?

Me - (Astonished) still answered, some cross questions but managed to wrap it well.

M2 - You're body language is good, and your English is crystal clear.

Me- Thank you, sir

M1- You can leave now.

F1- (Smiling) there's one toffee left and it is for your mother.

Me - I will give it to her.

F2- Make sure it doesn't go to your girlfriend.

Me- Don't worry, I have none.

F1 and F2- Quickly make one, as after joining a bank you won't have time for it.

I smiled and said thank you.

All the panelists were very happy; don't know whether it was my performance or their relief of finishing it.

It lasted for 3-5 minutes.

I am expecting 50 marks.

.

Me : May I come in sir ?

.

Panelist 1 : Yes come in, and have a seat.

.

Me (while sitting) :  Good Morning Sir.

.

No one gave a damn to my wish "Good Morning".

.

Panelist 1 : Yes what's your good name ?

.

Me : Gaurav Kumar.

.

Panelist 1 : Give your introduction.

.

Me : Sir I am a native of New Delhi. My father serves in Indian Air Force. I have .

been brought up by my parents in a disciplined and punctual environment. Due to transferrable nature of his job, We, as a family, have been shifted to several .

cities, which includes Shillong (Meghalaya), Guwahati (Assam), Car Nicobar .(Andaman & Nicobar Islands) and Vadodara (Gujarat). I did my schooling from all these places. It gave me a benefit of knowing about various places, their people and their cultures. And also cultivated in me, a quality of adjusting myself in different cities, and interacting with different people from different cultures. After my schooling, I came to Bangalore to pursue my graduation. I did B.E. from Computer Science, and passed out in 2014.

.

Panelist 2 : Which college ?

.

Me : RNS Institute of Technology.

.

Panelist 2 : What is the full form of your college name ?

.

Me : Rama Nagappa Shetty Institute of Technology.

.

Panelist 1 : So you attempted last year IBPS PO also ? What was the cut-off last year ?

.

Me : Sir It was 49.6 for General candidates.

.

Panelist 3 : Not 49.6, it would have been 50, because we cannot give marks here in decimal points.

.

Me : No sir, may be you misunderstood, I am telling about the final cut-off, which includes written + interview marks.

.

Panelist 3 : Oh ! Do they include written marks also in final cut-off ?

.

Me : Yes sir.

.

Panelist 4 (He started explaining it to Panelist 3) : Hey see, they add the written marks and the interview marks, and simply divide it by 2 to arrive at final cut-off.

.

Me : No sir, the written exam was of 200 marks, they will calculate our scored marks out of 80, and the marks which we will get in this interview, which is of 100 marks, will be calculated out of 20, and then they add it to arrive at final cut-off.

.

Panelist 4 : Ohk, I understood, but why do they give only 20% weightage to interview, it should be more than that. Why so less ?

.

Me : I don't know sir.

.

Panelist 4 : So you will get total marks at the end or will you get to know also that what was your score in written as well as in interview ?

.

Me : Yes sir, we get to know about our score in written as well as in interview, but at the end, they only post final total marks.

.

Panelist 3 : Then how come you know about your written and interview score ?

.

Me : Because they will release our written score after finishing all the interview process.

.

Panelist 4 : Ok Ok we got it, But IBPS should give more weightage to interview. This 20% weightage is not justified.

.

Panelist 1 : Do you have an account ?

.

Me : Yes Sir.

.

Panelist 1 : Which one ?

.

Me : Savings bank Account in SBI.

.

Panelist 1 : So What are the risks in opening a bank account for a customer.

.

Me : The first risk is that the person may provide fake information about himself to misuse the banking services. He may be indulged in Money Laundering using his account in our bank. And then there are risks related to lending also like... ( .

.

Panelist 1 interrupted )

.

Panelist 1 : Ok Ok I got it. Now tell what is Money Laundering ?

.

Me :  In laymen terms, money laundering simply means converting Black Money into White. In this process, the black money is placed in financial system by injecting it into the market. Then a series of complex transactions is carried out to hide the original source of money. Then a series of additional complex transactions is carried out by integrating black money with white money.

.

Panelist 1 : Suppose you find out that a person is carrying out huge illegal transactions, then what will you do ?

.

Me : I will inform my higher authorities about it.

.

Panelist 1 : But if high authorities are not there, and you have to make decision on your own.

.

Me : I will inform legal cell about it and will tell them to initiate the proceedings.

.

Panelist 1 : That is fine, legal cell will present bank's case in court, but before that, there is a department in the bank which will be informed first. Tell the name of that department.

( I was in a thinking mode, then he himself told )

.

Panelist 1 : That department is called Anti-Money laundering Cell.

.

Me : Ok sir.

.

Panelist 2 : Ok if that person got to know that you know about him, and he is powerful and influential person. Then ?

.

Me : Then also I will do the same sir.

.

Panelist 2 : Ok there is a department under central government who look after these kind of cases, tell the name of it ?

.

Me : Enforcement Directorate.

.

Panelist 2 : No. Try one more guess.

.

Me : Income tax Department.

.

Panelist 2 : No. You have told 90 % correct procedure, but I wanted to listen that 10 % also. Ok leave it.

(The correct answer is : CBI )

.

Panelist 5 :  What is FCMA Account ?

.

Me : Sorry ma'am. No idea.

.

Panelist 5 : What is NPA ?

.

Me : NPA stands for Non-Performing Assets. The assets which stop performing after 90 days are called NPA. Means the bank which has lent, didn't receive repayment EMIs for a period of 90 days, then the loan is declared as Non-Performing Asset, because that asset has stopped providing profitable returns.

.

Panelist 4 : Who invented Aeroplane ?

.

Me : Sir two brothers were there. Wilbur Right and Oliver Right.

.

(This was in news last year when a controversy erupted when Baba Ramdev stated in IIT Delhi that the first aeroplane was invented by Lord Vishwakarma and then Ravana used that aeroplane to kidnap Sita )

.

Panelist 3 : What is OROP ?

.

Me : OROP stands for One Rank One Pension. It means the defence retirees who retired at the same rank and after same tenure of service will be given equal pension. And... ( Panelist 1 interrupted )

.

Panelist 1 : Ok Ok. That's enough. It means you know about it.

.

Panelist 3 : What is RAM ?

.

Me : RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is the temporary memory which stores the data when we are working. Once the Computer is switched off, the whole data got wiped out. Therefore it is volatile memory. It is of two types, first one is SRAM and... ( Again Panelist 1 interrupted )

.

Panelist 1 : Ok Ok that's enough. Now you may go.

.

Me : Thank You Sir.

.

.

.

Overall interview duration - 5-6 minutes.

GK Update - Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission

Dear Readers,

Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission has recently been in the news and could be important for your exams.

The Union Cabinet approved this scheme to transform rural areas into economically, socially and physically sustainable spaces. In this article, we will look at its objectives and key features.

Objectives

· To achieve strengthening rural areas and de-burdening the urban areas.

· To carry out balanced regional development and growth of the nation by simultaneously benefitting the rural and urban areas.

· To develop rural growth clusters which have potential for growth in all states and UTs which would then result in overall progress in the region.

· To bridge the rural-urban divide and reduce distress migration from rural to urban areas.

Key Features

· With an outlay of Rs. 5142.08 crore, the Rurban Mission will develop clusters of smart villages which have a potential for holistic growth. These clusters will be developed by encouraging economic activities, local entrepreneurship and creation of infrastructure.

· By 2019-20, the government will set up 300 such clusters across the nation. The funding will be through different schemes of the Government converged into the cluster.

· Fourteen components have been suggested as desirable for a cluster to ensure optimum development: skill development training linked to economic activities, Agro Processing or Agri Services/Storage and Warehousing, Digital Literacy, Sanitation, provision of piped water supply, solid and liquid waste management, village streets and drains, street lights, fully equipped mobile health unit, upgrading school and higher education facilities, inter-village road connectivity, Citizen Service Centres for electronic delivery of citizen centric services and e-gram connectivity, Public Transportation and LPG gas connections.

· To select the clusters, the Ministry of Rural Development is using a scientific method, which involves an objective analysis of demography, economy, tourism and pilgrimage significance and transportation corridor impact. This will be done at the District, Sub-District and Village levels.

· Integrated Cluster Action Plans will be prepared by the States for Rurban Clusters. These will be detailed plan documents that will lay out the strategy for the cluster, desired results for the cluster under the mission, along with the converged resources under Central sector, schemes sponsored by Centre and State Sector, and the Critical Gap Funding (CGF) needed for the cluster.

· Along with CGF, major steps have been taken to ensure the success of the programme with proper budget provisions to support the State Government towards project development, capacity building and other institutional arrangements at the state level.

· The programme will provide an additional funding support of up to 30 per cent of the project cost per cluster as CGF as Central Share so as to enable development of Rurban clusters.

·  For smooth implementation of the Mission, both State and Centre will make institutional arrangements. An Innovation budget towards facilitating research, development and capacity building has also been allotted.

· The clusters will have geographically proximity to Gram Panchayats with a population of about 25,000 to 50,000 in plain and coastal areas, and a population of 5,000 to 15,000 in desert, hilly or tribal areas.

· A separate approach of selection will be at work to select clusters in Tribal and Non-Tribal Districts.

These are the major points in the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission. If you can understand these well, you can attempt questions on it with greater ease.

I cant go directly to Tahsildar or any other, only through Meeseva, should I bribe and try that? If I tell my problem nobody is listening and arguing that the certificate they gave is valid.

SIDBI Officers in Grade 'A' 2016: General Tips for Descriptive Test

The Small Industries Development Bank (SIDBI) is conducting an online examination to recruit 150 candidates for the Assistant Manager Grade 'A' position. In this article, we will discuss the pattern of the online descriptive exam and few general tips to ace this test.

Exam Pattern:

The descriptive test will evaluate your command over English Language and your ability to draft essays, letters, etc. This test has two sections worth 50 marks and has to be solved within 45 minutes. The section-wise pattern of the descriptive test is as follows:

Section                    No. of questions     Maximum marks

i) Essay writing                                       01                             35

ii) Letter writing (Business letter)           01                             15

Business Letter:

Letter writing assesses your drafting ability, usage of formal language and effective communication skills. At present, 'block style' format is widely used while drafting business letters. In this format, text of the entire letter is justified left. Given below are other important points to remember while writing letters:

i) Date: While writing the date, use day-month-year format or you can use month-day-year For eg: 22, January, 2016 or January 22, 2016.

ii) Sender's address: Make sure to study a particular example of official address, if any, during your preparation. It is advisable to include the sender's E-mail ID beneath the address.

iii) Receiver's address: This is the address you are sending your letter to. While mentioning the inside address, write the full name of the addressee using proper titles such as Mr./Ms./Mrs.

iv) Salutation: Your letter actually begins with the salutation for which you can use words like 'Respected' or 'Dear'.

v) Subject of the letter : You should mention the subject/reason of the letter in brief.

vi) Body of the letter: You should begin the body of the letter by stating your purpose. You can write 2-3 lines to establish your connection with the addressee. In the second paragraph, you should write about the core subject. If you are stating grievances, make sure to keep your language fairly balanced and formal. Do not to get caught up in the subject and include irrelevant details as it would distract the reader from the core subject. Try to present facts in support of your point of view.

vii) Closing the letter: State your requirement/request while closing the letter. You can also mention what you expect the reader to do and what will be your follow-up action. You can add 'Thanking you in advance' in the end of your letter.

viii)  Signature: You should sign your first and last names at the bottom left corner of the letter.  You can use words like 'Yours faithfully' or 'Yours sincerely' above your signature.

ix) You letter should be clear and concise to avoid any kind of miscommunication. You should not fill your letter with too many facts or arguments. If you want to address more than one pressing issue, then write about each in a different paragraph.

x) The tone of your language should convey confidence and sincerity without making you seem verbose. You should also be persuasive by stating clear actions to be taken by the reader.

xi) At the end, go through your letter once to correct spelling or grammar mistakes (if any).

xii) This question carries 15 marks. You should not spend more than 15 minutes for the same.

Common/probable topics for business letter writing (You can use these topics to practice letter writing) :

a) Write a complaint letter to a bank's Branch Manager about the inordinate delay in opening of a savings account.

b) As the Branch Manager of a bank, write a letter to the Head Office requesting setting up of an ATM in the branch's premises.

c) Write a letter to a bank's Branch Manager about the delay in remittance of funds from your savings bank account to so-and-so person's account in another bank.

d) Write a letter to the Branch Manager about unavailability of 500 rupee notes in its XYZ branch's ATM.

e) Write a letter to your bank about the procedure for applying personal loan, requesting details like rate of interest, time period, EMIs and documents to be submitted for the same.

f) As you have completed B.Com (Banking and Insurance), write a letter to a higher official in an insurance firm applying for a suitable job.

g) Write a letter to a bank's Branch Manager to complain about the inordinate delay in proceeding of your loan application.

Essay:

An essay is a comprehensive argument on a topic which reflects the author's knowledge and the direction of his/her thoughts. Essay writing is a very important question asked in the descriptive test as it is worth 35 marks. Let's now understand the three important steps of essay writing: selection of a topic, structure of the essay and writing of the essay.

i) Selection of topic: While selecting a topic for the essay, take a few minutes to carefully go through the given different topics and form a rough outline based on your knowledge of the same. Choose a topic about which you have maximum knowledge. Spend no more than 2-3 minutes to select the topic.

ii) Structure of essay: Without the right structure, it is difficult to effectively convey facts, opinions and your personal stand on the issue. Ideally, your essay should comprise three parts: Introduction - Body - Conclusion.

iii) Devote time to think about your topic with a clear and focused mind. Try to recollect information and list out points related to the topic. Now, go through them to evaluate their relevance to the topic.

iv) Introduction: The introductory paragraph is important as it helps to attract and hold the reader's attention. You should make the examiner curious about what s/he is going to read further in the essay. You can also mention a brief background of major facts related to your essay topics.

v) Body: This is the most crucial part of your essay because it provides in-depth analytical arguments for every point you wish to elaborate in the essay. This is where you can present your knowledge of the topic, analytical ability and assessment of ideas. You can structure the body of your essay by presenting your arguments, facts & figures.
