Hi All,

Myself Vishal, working as a Soft Engg in one of the leading MNC in Bangalore, frm last 2 years nd having salary of 4.2 Lpa.
I tried to prepare IAS while working but couldnt be consistent.
I have 3 attempts left 2013, 14, 15.(in short, I have only 2-3 years to do all such kinds of exercise ! )

1.Will it be a gud option to switch towards ssc-cgl govt job , in a hope to get time for preparation, as I am not in favor of sitting idle without any job for the preparation..?
- wouldn't that be a risk , as I don know how much they pay , nd wht will be the future scope.

2.And after switching , in worst case if I have not cleared IAS, can I come back for MBA after clearing CAT/GMAT (will the profile be affected by such career related variations ?)

(I have currently appeared for the ssc CGL -12 nd hoping to clear the first round , next round will going to be held in Sept- 12, then interview in Oct- Nov)

Please post some useful comments/suggestions..
Many many thanks in advance .

The options like SSC is available upto age of 27. IBPS exams shall still be viable.
Both these options are lengthy . All in all it takes almost one year. So dont think to get into SSC and then start preparing. Instead quit job, start preparing GK and aptitude(basically IAS prelims-CSAT) which shall take care of SSC and CSAT.

Would it affect your profile if you come back after being jobless for few years- Yes it would. Precisely why people dread the IAS failure.

@Moderator As the topic is very different kindly continue this thread
Hi icecool11,
Thanks for your concerned suggestions,

I am in my way towards SSC...just cleared Tier 1 (PT)..and looking forward towards mains this month ..
All are upon the fate and my performance in this final exam.

but I am not at all in favor of quitting my job for something uncertain..I know people do tht ..
but my person conditions are not in this favor ..
please add some more words of suggestions ..if any ..

@vishal3403 : brother sorry for intruding. the other bro has given his opinion and i fully appreciate his endeavor to do so.
but i would like to add something from my side. though preparing UPSC full time without a job is certainly the best choice but since your situation doesn't allow you to do so. hence ill suggest you being right in trying for SSC. also i would like to add that since you want the time to study hence do not try for bank POs because of the extreme work load which might divert you from your target. you should try for administrative officer posts in Public sector insurance companies, also you should try for RBI grade B. then AO in CSIR etc are areas which certainly fulfill you purpose.
look out for such ventures. you will definitely succeed
good luck
Hi Dushyant (BONNYDUSHYANT )

Any advice towards this is most welcomed, thanks.
I was susceptible about the bank PO , and I think you stated it right !
I will be focusing towards my main goal, after taking SSC this month..no matter which job I am :-|... but just trying to throw the stone high, in hope.
think IBPS specialist officer wud be next ..but it is unwise to put more effort on intermediate steps ...than focusing on the actual...
I have to recalculate the time in hand for other options suggested ..

@vishal3403 : certainly. but i just want to add one thing that try and appear in those exams only for which you don't have to study anything extra from upsc. save as much time as possible
Exactly , thanks bro ..really helpful suggestions !
@vishal3403 : you are always welcome bro
@vishal3403 I have just quit my job for this.

Hi Vishal,

Well Tax Assistant is C Grade Job which will fetch you around 17k money. Bad news is that its a clerical job.Good news is that it doesn't have much work and in probability, people from your office shall also encourage you to pursue IAS.

Now either you can take up this job which shall not exactly make your career graph so continuous. But safety wise it is better than leaving everything all together.

Other option is to drop the job and prepare full fledged for IAS and wait for other suitable job in between.

(Safety)Join it. See the location of joining and everything - work hours, free time, are you able to study etc.

(Less safe) Leave everything. Most IAS batches have started from October and some are to start in November. So go to Delhi join a coaching. Study,Pray and give all exams in between(SSC, SBI PO,IBPS etc etc)

Note: SSC age limit is 27 years and for PO going to make it 28 years. Keep that in mind too.
