hi guys,
i completed my spj interviews in mumbai during last week of last month
the interview went on well .. was pretty happy bout the way it went on
not sure if i wud get a final offer .. but i have some observations made during my spj visit last month
these observations have pulled my spirits down .. this was the only call i had and am now wondering whether or not to join spj if atall the call comes thro'
iam a s/w engg with arround 2.4 yrs work ex
my observations
1. big distraction in the form of some beautyful chicks .. if somebody is not in control .. he will never pass out 😁
2. too many other courses / institutes in the same campus .. i dunot like that idea .. wud have been better if it was isolated.
3. infrastructure is not all that greath !! .. i din't find even a single photo as in the brochure
4. the mess is greath .. prob the only thing i was impressed .. real good food
5. the students do'nt have all that greath an attitude .. i can't illustrate it .. but thats what i conculded after interacting with some of them
6. management was pathetically bad .. when it came to arranging on campus lodging !!, and the cottage provided for our stay was equally bad
7. hostel .. cramped rooms .. 3 per room .. and the bloody color photo they have in the broucher is so misleading !!, their is restriction for movement of ppl b/w mens and women rooms .. tho' they r in the same building .. they r separated with dividers (heard later that the hostels moving to a new campus this year .. any confirmations ??)
8. everybody gets a laptop .. inclusive in the course fee .. good net connection .. only if made proper use of !!
9. i spoke to some of the 2yr students who had been placed .. was asking bout the "IM" course in particular .. and they told me its good for a guy with work exp and not for a fresher ..
not sure if they meant guys with good work ex could associated better,
whatever they meant if its not equally good for both freshers and wok exs .. then how good is the course, faculty, atmosphere and teaching ??
10. the salaries are ok .. the higest paid this time was 5.5, arround 30% - 40% have salaries in the range of 2.4 !!! .. any takers ??
11. lowest for IM is arround 3.5
12. some of the job profiles for IM where like business analyst, project manager etc.
13. some how the whole damn thing was not vibrating !!
most of the above is a personal opinion .. wud like if guys who have been to the campus or otherwise add their experience, comments, observations
2 yrs of slogging is for sure, either @ spj or @ iims .. but the quality of education, opportunities and branding @ the end of 2yrs is what wud fetch efforts the right dividends !!
guys with acquaints in spj cud do well if they can get their contacts re-established and pull out some info
would like to conclude if spj is really worth the 2 yrs ??
regards

Now i can proudly say that....." i dare to think beyond IIMS"

Sagar
hi sagar,
u cud do well by refering to the prev spjain thread .. the interview has been more or less on the same lines as of what the guys have posted there .. pretty kewl .. nothing technical .. just assesing ur focus .. and some part wud be specific to each individual .. like for eg. i was asked to talk about cauvery issue, .net, my current prj client .. their profit margins etc.. so this part is specific to individuals profile .. rest on the same common lines
good luck for the interview
regards
ps: guyz ... v r yet to decide how much spjain is worth ??

Hello,
this was the only call i had and am now wondering whether or not to join spj if atall the call comes thro'
SPJ is one of the most respected institutes. They surely are torch bearing when it comes to Mgmt. But well, they still don't compare to an IIM. But there have been cases when students have taken SPJ over I & K.
my observations
1. big distraction in the form of some beautyful chicks .. if somebody is not in control .. he will never pass out 😁
DAMN ! You call that a reason not to join SPJ. LOL. Get real pal

2. too many other courses / institutes in the same campus .. i dunot like that idea .. wud have been better if it was isolated.
You mean the Bhavan's college. Well, you won't get isolation etc over at SPJ. But its bang in the middle of Mumbai. Hows that for placement purposes :)
3. infrastructure is not all that greath !! .. i din't find even a single photo as in the brochure
I agree. I've been to SPJ and wondered why do they have such a bad infrastructure for a BSchool. But well.. before I came back.. I did ask them about their "lack" of infrastructure and they told me that they don't accept donations..blah blah..and no corporate sponsorship and every brick in this institute was built using the fees given by students. ( Almost exact words ).
5. the students do'nt have all that greath an attitude .. i can't illustrate it .. but thats what i conculded after interacting with some of them
Now I'd like to hear more about that. Let us know.
6. management was pathetically bad .. when it came to arranging on campus lodging !!, and the cottage provided for our stay was equally bad
That's a regular complaint about lodging etc. They aren't designed to handle it.
7. hostel .. cramped rooms ..
I haven't heard of a new campus. But as you pointed out the accomodation is BAD. I've heard dozens of people tell me the same thing.
10. the salaries are ok .. the higest paid this time was 5.5, arround 30% - 40% have salaries in the range of 2.4 !!! .. any takers ??
2.4 ... err seems low. You got the info from ?
2 yrs of slogging is for sure, either @ spj or @ iims .. but the quality of education, opportunities and branding @ the end of 2yrs is what wud fetch efforts the right dividends !!
SPJ is held at par with the IIMs in majority of the cases. They are much more biased towards work ex than the IIMs are. Plus SPJ is a mighty progressive institute. All these years.. they've been moving ahead and fast. Being on par with the IIM's is a HUGE deal considering how fast they have done it. Till the time their dean runs the show, you can be sure that SPJ will rock and will move ahead.
Would like to conclude if spj is really worth the 2 yrs ??
Now thats such a personal statement
