I gave GMAT on 14th june in bangalore and scored 740. The first reaction that came to my mind after looking at the score was " thank god... izzat to nahi luti " .

For me, the journey of GMAT started on 26th April when i booked my "date" with GMAT. I am the sort of guy who can't study untill exam date is finalized. So there i go, i was one step closer to my goal. From that day on, i kept coming back again and again on paagalguy, and gathered a hell lotta knowledge. Reading someone's post who has cracked GMAT encouraged me to do the same. It was fun reading some of the posts like that of Kunal, Baba Yoga and others.

Anyways, lets come straight to the point, for the preparation, I bought 2 books, princeton and kaplan 800. Princeton is good for the start but that alone can't take you far. Basically it is just to cross the 650 hurdle. To cross 700, one needs tough material, as is given in Kaplan 800. I found SC to be the tough nut to crack initially, but by practice and by following the 8 point funda given in princeton, I started getting around 70-75% correct answers in SC. My strong point was undoubtedly CR ,where i used to get around 90% accuracy right from the word go. RC was a nightmare, especially the inference questions. I also got one pdf for OG10, but did very few questions due to lack of time. Its a very good book though, and i would suggest others to go through it.

After some 2 weeks of lightwieght preparation came the big surprise. My manager told me to go onsite, and boy i was scared. Anyways, he promised me that i can come back on 11th june, and luckily i found some time on weekends and about half an hour or so daily to study.

I downloaded both PowerPrep and GMATPrep, and gave 8 exams in all, including KAPLAN. My scores were-

PP1 - 760
PP2 - 730
Kaplan1 - 630
Kaplan2 - 600
Kaplan3 - 660
Kaplan4 - 630
GmatPrep1 - 750
GmatPrep2 - 760
One important tip --
Keep practicing one section like SC or RC untill you are so comfortable that you don't feel tired. Initially i used to get bored and tired after doing just 10 SCs or 1 RC. But after practice i no longer found them to be tiring. This helps a lot when you are taking a practice exam, since gmat is a nearly 4 hour exam and you want your brain to be up and running till you are done.

THE Day before GMAT --

Took the day off from office. Relaxed a little, I hadn't prepared for AWA yet, so went through some essays from ARCO. It was pretty helpful to get some template ingrained in the brain before writing one. After dinner watched one football match, gossiped with my flatmate and slept early.

THE GMAT Day --

Woke up as usual, since my appointment was at 1:30 PM. I hadn't seen the test centre yet so decided to dump my bike and took auto.

One pretty girl was also waiting outside the centre, and interestingly we started conversation. Well, I thought, thats a good sign 😃 .

Test started at 1:00 pm. Luckily , i got some current topic for essay for which i had some good content. When the hardest part ( for me since i prepared only the day before) was over, a 10 minute break was given. I used it to stuff some biscuits. Quant section was a little tougher than the ones i gave in GmatPrep, but being from a engineering background, it didn't bother me much. After another 10 minutes break, I was ready to face the last and probably the hardest section of GMAT, the verbal. Verbal started with SC, which was an easy one. For me first RC came at question number 5. After that i don't remember which questions i got, and how i answered them. I was glad that finally its over. At the end, some general questionare was to be filled, after which I saw my score online. First reaction ... " thank god... izzat to nahi luti "

Finally guys, I will need your advice for apping and all. I will post my queries soon.

Yaar Amit(nsitian) I havn't decided about the schools yet... there is a lot of confusion .. US MBA costs a hell lot ..somewhere in 65-70 lacs range ...that scares me off... will be applying to ISB for sure... thinking bout insead, imd, nus ..mayb some more ....
One more thing that i m wondering whether i should give cat this year or not .... i havn't tried a single shot on CAT yet ... btw lemme give u my profile ..mayb u n other more knowledgable guys can help me out..

From where did you download "Powerprep" tests?? Power prep, I came to know, are no longer in circulation. BTW, Congrats for your score

its rajat here..thatwas a hell lot of inspiration and guidance from ur end...i was thinking i am d only one with poor comprehensive skills...but after reading ur mail...i think RC is nightmare for one and all...especially inference ones..its a mental commando course...and even i have been getting down on my confidence levels at the fag end of my prep with a screwy score in RC..just like u...i have a stronghold on CR,SC is reasonably well...but RC is "tauba-tauba"...an i too have prep very less for AWA...please advice where i can get hold of ARCO which u have mentioned in ur mail....i have booked my exam schedule on 7th dec...i'l be obliged if u can guide me a little...
