firstly the qn sounds awkard..not only ..shud b completed by "but also"..qn states it as 'but'..will take it as a typo and proceed..

skill and precision....are (not is)..so A,C,D out..

The infinitive form, "to raise" is the correct usage..

b) in correct, "are" is inccorectly used ofr 'solvency

as correct idiom is "compare with", (A) (B) and (D) are out.
now between (C) and (E), (C) is correct because u can "base ur decision on "comparisons" (noun) rather than on "comparing" (verb)

Here like is used as a preposition . Like can link two nouns or noun phrases. with colors that mark is not a noun phrase while colors marking is a noun phrase that can relate to "like the rings". This was discussed in page 131 of this thread.

In Q2 don't you think that it is confusing between A and C because compare is followed by both 'to' and 'with'.
