A huge flying reptile that died out with the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, the Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 36 feet, believed to be the largest flying creature the world has ever seen.
(A) believed to be
(B) and that is believed to be
(C) and it is believed to have been
(D) which was, it is believed,
(E) which is believed to be

I think (B) is the right answer. A...reptile that died..., the Quetz had a wingspan, and that is believed to be...

(A) believed to be
(B) and that is believed to be
(C) and it is believed to have been
(D) which was, it is believed,
(E) which is believed to be

Firstly reptile is a living thing so it shud b used to refer to it so B(which uses that ) , D and E ( D n E use which ) are ruled it.
A results in a run on sentence there shud b a conjunction or smthg to connect the two parts of the sentence.Hence ur left with C .

Also the last part of the sentence uses the participle form "has seen" so to maintain parallelism the earliesr part shud aslo participle form of the verb " have been ".

I hope its clear nw .

Hi Shiva,

Hmmm I checked again. I think even B is not correct

since from initial sentence it looks lie empoyers are required to report to government- whether X and Y, so X and Y has to be parallel
Here the first verb from is to pay so Y should say some thing to parallel pay, confused it for the common that X and that Y constructions in GMAT. Looking at D again it seems information refers to entire thing after whether and looks ok.
Ignore my previous explanation on B as the use of X and Y involves verb in Y should parallel the first main verb in X.I hope this helps
Hi Shiva,

This question is from 1000SC and, unfortunately, explaination is not given in the document.

I have not found any wrong answer in 1000sc till now....what u have said is also correct..but, If the answer is indeed (D), we should also take note of these kinds of modifier problem...

any comment puys!!!

Regards to the following question
2. Corporations will soon be required to report to the government whether they have the necessary reserves to pay the pension benefits earned by their employees and that the information be published in annual reports to shareholders.
(A) earned by their employees and that the information be published
(B) that their employees earned and that the information be published
(C) that was earned by their employees with the information being published
(D) earned by their employees, information that must also be published
(E) earned by their employees and published the information

I think apart from whatever has been discussed, another basic things needs to be considered.

"the information" is wrong usage because there is no mention of any information in the part of the sentence before the word "information" itself. So it can't be preceded by "the".

Secondly, whether "they have..." requires a parallel sentence if any. I am saying so because information thing doesn't parallel with pension earned by employees. So it follows that "information" introduces a separate clause.
Moreover here "and" can't join the two sentences in a clear manner. It's a kind of weird sentence formation (used "ellipsis") but D fits the fill.

Well, I just made out all this explanation after knowing the right answer. Earlier I thought B is the right one πŸ˜ƒ

crack this...I have 2 diff OA for this (though one if more reliable)

I believe that the answer is D.

It should be reduced, not reduces (C&E; out)
Had been is wrong as there isnt more than one event (A&B; out)

D uses the correct verg "are". They are not banned from dumping anymore.

Whats the OA ?

Yes I think it is D.

Ya i also think that the answer shud b D .
And i think the other OA ur talking abt is A coz the " reduction of the amount of phospahtes" itself is the second event which follows an already happening event i.e. "the amount the muncipilaties had been allowed to dump " before the reduction by the agreement. And both the events happened in the past . So the second event wud use the simple past and the first event past participle.

Am i right ?? Hope i hv not made a fool of myself in trying to get both the OAs.
1. For many travelers, charter vacations often turn out to cost considerably more than they originally seemed.
(A) they originally seemed
(B) they originally seem to
(C) they seemingly would cost originally
(D) it seemed originally
(E) it originally seemed they would
per my understanding, answer to this should be (E), but the given OA is (A)
