Montaque, could you pls explain "twice as fast as they grow naturally"
Thanks in advance !
KingCat,
"twice as fast as they grow naturally" might appears to be little awkward, but only this phrase fits the bill.
a) it compares "suppliers are growing" with "the rate of growth of fish". moreover, "growth rate" cannot be "faster than" any other rate..it has to be "more than" b) same as above c)it suggests that fishes can be grown naturally as well...how can "we" grow fishes "naturally"... d) correct, in parallel to "suppliers are growing fishes" e) first part is in parallel, but "with their feed allotment cut" is not in parallel with "growing" and "raising"
Hey Shiva, thnx for that...i wasn't aware of that difference b/w less & fewer.
Anyway Guys, here are few more
1. Building large new hospitals in the bistate area would constitute a wasteful use of resources, on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone. (A) on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone (B) on the grounds of avoiding duplicated facilities alone (C) solely in that duplicated facilities should be avoided (D) while the duplication of facilities should be avoided (E) if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided 2. By showing that South Africa does not have a free market and is in fact a kind of collectivist welfare state for Whites only, Sowell argues that American conservatives have no valid ideological grounds to be in sympathy with the Pretoria regime. (A) to be in sympathy with (B) to sympathize with (C) for sympathizing with (D) that they should sympathize with (E) that they should have sympathy for 3. Camille Claudet worked continuously through the 1880s and early 1890s with the sculptor Auguste Rodin; since there are very few signed works of hers, the inescapable conclusion seems to be one of Claudet conceiving and executing part of Rodins enormous production of that period. (A) inescapable conclusion seems to be one of Claudet conceiving and executing part of Rodins enormous production of that period (B) conclusion of Claudet conceiving and executing part of Rodins enormous production of that period seems inescapable (C) conclusion seems inescapable that part of Rodins enormous production of that period was conceived and executed by Claudet (D) conclusion of part of Rodins enormous production of that period having been conceived and executed by Claudet seems inescapable (E) seemingly inescapable conclusion is that Claudet would have conceived and executed part of Rodins enormous production of that period
1)Building large hospitals should modify something. It doesn't seem to modify the other choices Except E which introduces a condition. If is correctly used to introduce this condition. I think the answer is E 2) Close between B and C. But I think grounds for is better than grounds to (infinitive) Also I think showing goes well with sympathizing. My Answer is C 3)The use of Since makes me choose E which has "have" in it.

1. In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle other stars. b) most of them as large or larger than Jupiter and circling c) at least as large as jupiter, circling d) mostly atleast as large as Jupiter, which circle e) mostly as large as or larger than Jupiter, circling
2. To meet rapidly rising market demand for fish & seafood, suppliers are growing fish twice as fast as their natural growth rate, cutting their feed allotment by nearly half and raising them on special diets b) their natural growth rate, their feed allotment cut c) growing them naturally, cutting their feed allotment d) they grow naturally, cutting their feed allotment e) they grow naturally, with their feed allotment cut
Happy solving !!!
1) I think Mostly --at least is not the correct usage looks like atleast is redundant. Perhaps would have been a better choice also use of which is not correct it can point to jupiter as well. So D has to be ruled out. Atleast clear ly says the planets or >= in size to jupiter. Clear and concise so C is the answer. 2) Nothing more to say. Montaqes explanation is very good

Sumit, As I have already mentioned at least as large as = as large as or larger than. (if x is at least equal to 3 it means x >= 3). So E is clearly wordy and I also didn't like the use of mostly which introduces a doubt about the comparison that follows. In the first part it is clearly said planets are massive so second part should introduce some comparison without being doubtful

1)Here scholars should be the subject as is clear from "now understand this " and the rest of the sentence A.Once requires past tense and is correctly used here. A seems correct B.Unnecessary use of ' ing' form C. and is unnecessarily used. It sounds like scholars thought and recorded. Not correct D.Scholars should be the subject else it sounds like literatures now understand E. Same as D. Not correct
2) X but Y should be the flow (thats what I think) and X and Y should be paralles. for that to happen focus should perform the job of a verb A. Awkward. It should be something like Analyzing X the media focus on Y B.This sounds like Noun phrase has been Verb (focus is verb here) Not correct C. Correct media have (subject verb agreement) D.Media analyses can' be subject (look at the part after but ... it sounds Media analyses have genrally overlooked). Changes the meaning of the sentence E.There is no Subject-verb agreement
Folks special mention collective nouns use Singular but when they are considered individually they take plural so here Media Have is perfectly OK

The Idiom is requirning X to do Y So now the choices narrow down to B and D B illogically states employers ----1) provide 2)take care of children (whose children) D. This solves the problems of whose children .They clearly refers to employees because Employers don't have to provide --- to employees to take care of Employers children.
