The phrase compares to changes the logical meaning of the sentence. Moreover, i think, it is not idiomatic. I chose A which is incorrect.

They are not parallel because THE HARVESTING is a noun with an "ing" (Also called as GERUND) which does not go in parallel with the other.
The right answer is b, as it uses nouns for all three and uses "such as" for taking the example.
