I've bought Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction book (4th edition) and got an access code in the book. Using this access code, I tried to register at the official Manhattan GMAT site for the 6 computer adaptive practice exams, but I'm getting an error message - "Access code Invalid'. It's a completely new book and the access code was also not used before. Kindly let me know if anybody can provide me with any pointer on this issue.

Answer for the 1st: E (Given) But i strongly feel that D is the right ans, coz the noun (study of the fruit fly) is not (a household nuisance) but (the fruit fly) is (a household nuisance). Hence not E. Need help with this 1. Please elaborate.
Answer for the 2nd: E A has a dangling modifier. Only the sketchy picture is based on the accounts and not the scholars.

Studying the fruit fly, a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject, has enabled the secrets of how embryos develop to begin to be unraveled by scientists. A) Studying the fruit fly, a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject, has enabled the secrets of how embryos develop to begin to be unraveled by scientists. - The study should enable the scientists and not the secrets B) By the study of the fruit fly, a household nuisance and also a time-honored experimental subject, it was possible for the secrets of how embryos develop to begin to be unraveled by scientists. - Similar meaning as implied in A C) By studying a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject, the fruit fly enabled scientist to begin to unravel the secrets of how embryos develop. - The fruit fly does not enable. The study enables.. D) By studying the fruit fly, a household nuisance and also a time-honored experimental subject, the secrets of how embryos develop are beginning to be unraveled by scientist. Seems to be the better option..but not the best..
E) The study of the fruit fly, a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject, has enabled scientist to begin to unravel the secrets of how embryos develop.- Here the study seems to be the nuisance and exp-subject and not the fruit fly

As you would know, the correct idiomatic usage isranging from A to B. Its a meaning and parallelism issue here. The parallelism is between what happens in some countries and what happens in other countries.
The correct structure, as used in A is:
..risk ranging from X in some countries TO Y1 (and Y2 and Y3.) in other countries.
D has the following incorrect structure:
..risk ranging from X in some countries and Y to Z in other countries.

Yeah, I understand this can be a bit confusing. You might want to refer to Q48 in OG12. I am reproducing the correct sentence here:
In 1713, Alexander Pope began his translation of the Iliad, a work that took him seven years to complete and that literary critic Samuel Johnson, Popes contemporary, pronounced the greatest translation in any language.
OE says: Popes translation is described as a work.
Draw parallels between translation of the Iliad and study of the fruit fly.
This might sound very basic but i am finding it very difficult to remember the Idioms and their usage. Is there any easy way to memorize them or do they come to us as we keep on using them more frequently?
I am new to GMAT preps and have started about a 2 weeks back.
