GMAT Sentence Correction Discussions

Can someone explain the answer for the following:-
In recent years cattle breeders have increasingly used crossbreedingďźŒin part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics and partly because crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor.
(A) in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics
(B) in part for the acquisition of certain characteristics in their steers
(C) partly because of their steers acquiring certain characteristics
(D) partly because certain characteristics should be acquired by their steers
(E) partly to acquire certain characteristics in their steers

I think Opt D: partly because certain characteristics should be acquired by their steers
, cause it continues parallel construction and the part after 'partly because'...is complete in sense in itself just like the corrosponding un-underlined part is.

wht's OA?

have become an ongoing threat due to drought and booming population density, has increased
check the bold colour marked you will get the connection!
@emin3m the sourcse is 100% correct taken from MGMAT there is no ambiguity!

No, it is right.. 'which' refers to the immediate noun before it i.e wildfires, it is plural. Hence it will be "have an ongoing threat".
Now the Phrase "The number of acres destroyed by wildfires" is singular so it will be "has decreased". Now in GMAT, "due to"( a substitute of "caused by") can only modify a noun not an entire phrase. For eg it is incorrect to say "The match was postponed due to rain". But if we say"The match's postponment was due to rain" then it is correct.
So it would be "becuase of" and not "due to".
OA would be E

No i dnt think use of Should is grammaticaly correct here ... also if you look at the parallel constrcution than its wrong ..... i guess C is d correct choice ...

I doubt this..

OA has to be E

have become an ongoing threat because of drought and booming population density, has increased

In GMAT 'due to' can be replaced by 'caused by' , which doesnt make any sense here...

i am agree with you.. also if it"S wrong then can somebody explain me reason of avoiding because of..

have become an ongoing threat due to drought and booming population density, has increased
have become an ongoing threat because of drought and booming population density, has increased

Go with "due to" for more formal sentences and "because of" in less formal writing. Plug these two into the same sentence, and you can hear the difference; the first sounds more formal than the second

the singular of wildfires is wildfire you may say in literal sense its same but actually its not

Plz check the Manhattan question bank for SC..The right answer is given as E. Nuthing like sound difference in formal and informal..'Due to' is never used to describe a clause or a phrase. 'Due to' is always used to modify a noun before it. For eg I have said earlier
'The match was postponed due to rain' is incorrect. It should be 'The match postponment was due to rain'

My take is in bold. See the Manhattan SC guide book Chapter 11(Parallelism/Advanced strategy). VAN(Verb-Adjective-Noun) Pattern 1.
A verb is always preferred to an Action Noun.
