E FOr BOTH

Please explain 2. answer. My choice is B

Answers for both are given as B !!!!
Possible explanation which i thought of, dont have any official explanation...

1. Britain,France, OR Germany, not AND,
so out of A and B, B is correct.

2. Black Americans, is the correct usage, not a Black American,
so only A and B are the options, out of them, B is concise and grammatically correct.

Please correct puys, if there is anything missing in these explanations.

Since these answers are incorrect, what are the correct answers?
I have been scratching my head ever since i read your post

This cannot be correct. Could you let us know the source of these questions.

1. those in B is intended to refer to economies, but economies does not appear anywhere in the sentence, only economy does. Also, and the unemployment rate remaining is an issue with B.

2. B definitely does not make sense. Jean Toomers Cane does not include Native Son and Invisible Man. E seems very appropriate.

Please help with this sentence:
The police have significantly reduced violent crime and are pleased with (themselves) for doing so
I was under impression that police here would be singular and thus the verb following and pronoun used for it should be singular.
Can anyone tell me whether police would be singular or plural subject?

Thanks

Just checked it up online in a couple of places........

people / police / cattle

These collective nouns always take a plural verb. There is no singular form of these nouns:

-People who have invested all their savings in shares are sure to lose out.
-Police in this area are currently investigating 74 allegations of date rape.
-All the cattle were moved to the fields lower down the valley as winter approached.

So the sentence "The police have significantly reduced violent crime and are pleased with (themselves) for doing so" is correct !!!

Hi Ajay, could u please send me the soft copy of Manhattan SC's at [email protected]

It has to be both E's.

For 1, it is referring to all the economies in collective manner rather than comparing themselves and then comparing with the Chinese.

For 2, E seems to most appropriate as it refers to only a single person, hence 'a black american', then latter part coming as authors name is mentioned first then its books' name, hence it should be continuing with that.

This is what I could I make out. Kindly confirm over the this.

E for both?

Yes " Sahani Prashant" its E in both. Explaining further. frist one needs to compare economies and not the country itself . missing 'and' which acts like a conjunction.
second one 'black american' needs to be singular as we are refering using 'One'. I guess my understanding is correct regarding the second.
