IMO C, because we are comparing levels, so it correctly refers to earlier level.
What is OA and OE?
Yeah, sorry I have mised it and now this is why sentence correction part of GMAT is called as horrible. The word "higher" used for comparison exactly reveals that it is level which can go higher or lower. I changed my answer to C.
If the movie by Al Gore was correct about the melting North Pole, in twenty years the tides around Alska will rise to a level more than two feet higher than were those in 1950. (A) will rise to a level more than two feet higher than were those (B) will rise to a level more than two feet higher than that (C) would rise to a level more than two feet higher than it was (D) would rise to a level more than two feet higher than those (E) would rise to a level more than two feet higher than they were
The answer provided in the source was B . Reason being :The original sentence displays a comparison error and a pronoun-antecedent agreement error. Choice B fixes both errors without introducing additional ones. The verb is eliminated and the plural those is changed to the singular that, which logically refers to level.
Source : 2 Minute GMAT . I myself thought C and E and went for E. C looks more logical. Anyone who agrees with the answer being B, please explain.
Inflation has made many Americans reevaluate their assumptions about the future; they still expect to live better than their parents have, but not so well as they once thought they could. (A) they still expect to live better than their parents have (B) they still expect to live better than their parents did (C) they still expect to live better than their parents had (D) still expecting to live better than their parents had (E) still expecting to live better than did their parents

(A) ---> use of 'have' doesn't make any sense. (B) ---> Correct. (C) ---> wrong use of 'had'. two past actions are not compared here. (D) ---> 'still expecting to...' creates sentence fragment. (E) ---> 'still expecting to...' creates sentence fragment.
I got a weird doubt in SC, yday. Guess prepping for GMAT has its own disadvantages. :banghead:
X : I love you Y: Me too / I too
What is the correct answer of Y to X w.r.t GMAT??
I feel "I too" is the right answer for GMAT, though "Me too" sounds right. "I", the pronoun refers to a subject and is doing some action (loving the other person). "Me" is used to denote a object pronoun ..action being done on a noun.
I thought, I need not shy away from asking this in my favo PG

:wow: yeh bhai toh apni girlfren ke saath baat karte waqt bhi gmat ke baare mein he sochta rehta hai.
i think both 'me too' and 'i too' are colloquial usage. they r incomplete sentences coz they dont have a verb.
i think correct gmat usage will be 'i love u too' π
