Look at the statement, it says "The strength of a carbon-chlorine bond is stronger than that of a carbon-bromine bond.."
why cant the same be repeated in the 2nd half of the statement? why not B?
But just to avoid the repetitiveness of the word 'stronger', 'greater' can be used - which leads to A.

I did not get it - what leads to A?

I thought this question is a dud for it compares "the strength of something" with "something else".

Could anyone please explain more about "the question" in question πŸ˜ƒ

My choice D D.

IMO answers
(D), In E, auxiliary verb 'do' is used inappropriately after main verb 'will' ellipsis are only formed to avoid the repetitiveness of main verb phrase
(B), patchwork is collective noun, it must take singular verb surrounds which is in B, and yeah relative pronoun 'whom' can be used as an object only and here it is used for subject farmer worker, but still go with B

Yes correct. Can u also provide the explanation?

I think it should be (C).......The sloth seems to refer to a particular sloth.

I think E and A.

Yes correct. Can u also provide the explanation?

Reasons to chose D :

1. "species of algae grow on its coat and between its toes". 'its' here makes it clear that the subject is singular, if it is plural then the phrase would be as
"species of algae grow on their coat and between their toes".
A, B and C can be eliminated on the basis of this reasoning.

2. Between E and D, In D usage of idiom is appropriate "moving so infrequently" whereas in E "it moves infrequently enough sounds awkward.

Hope this helps

Even IMO
(E)
(C)

But I would like to know the reason why is there a pronoun confusion here.
"charter vacations" is the subject of the first verb and it is also the first half of a comparison. "they" is the subject of the second verb and it is also the second half of the previously mentioned comparison.
Thus they correctly refers to "charter vacations" both logically and structurally.

"they" can only refer to the consumers and even if introduces proper mood for the sentence.
1. some 25 degrees above the horizon is a non-essential modifier and can be ignored for grammatical purposes. Now, things will become clearer; the correct usage is: x is same as y (and so, that is not appropriate usage). So, a, b are out. C is non parallel while e uses a redundant do. Hence d is the answer

2. The subject of the sentence is patchwork (which is singular) and not green fields. Most often, an easy way to find that out is to ignore the prepositional phrase (starting with of). Hence, surrounds is the correct usage. B is clearly the right answer.

Thanks for providing such a clear explanation for A. However for B the OA is a), though even i feel it should be b)
1. Straight e. btw, the problem with a, b and is not an ambiguous they (in this usage, they correctly refers to charter vacations). Essentially, think about it as someone telling: To me, charter vacations have costed more than what I was told they would. Hence e is the correct answer. Also, note that it does not necessarily need to have an antecedent as in this case, where it is used as a placeholder (for e.g. it is very hot).

2. even if is the correct usage here, since it brings contrast. The problem with a is that we dont know who is free of damage claims and moving violations; is it consumers or is it the price of insurance. By using they (which can only refer to consumers), c removes this ambiguity and hence, is the right answer.

OA is a) for 1)

Hey Sumit!

In the original form of the sentence the structure is somewhat like
For N1, N2 turn out to cost more than they seemed.

There are two problems:
you ought to be comparing the "cost" (v) with "what they thought vacations would cost". "they seemed" means vacations seemed.. seemed what??

Second, though it is true that in most of the cases "they" will automatically refer to N2 but in some cases it can refer to N1 as well - given there is no confusion by virtue of the no. and gender.
