Hi,
I have done the sentence corrections in OG 12 after going thru the 4th edition of manhattan sc guide. My accuracy is around 65%. As i am doing SCs for the first time, i have not maintained any time limits while doing so. Even then the score is very low and i am very much disheartened and donno how I can improve on this. Any suggestions are most welcome.
Also one more question, will the toughness of SCs in the real exam be on par with that in OG or will it be more?(Though it is known that the more the number of answers that are correct, the more tough the questions will be)
Hi Sid,

Hi Sid,
The correct idiom is - So X that Z.
The issue, here, is Parallelism.
This is very tricky, but the construction in E relates back to the construction already established at the beginning of the sentence:
"So (adjective) were FP's (noun)"
when we then say,
", and so (adjective) her (noun)"
we are just mimicking the earlier structure. This is parallel and clear.
And, her lobbying and Frances Perkins' lobbying are equivalent. The use of the possessive pronoun "her" simply makes the sentence less unwieldy and less repetitive.
Hope that clears your doubt.

Neha

Hi Puys
I am a newbie to this forum. While following through some older threads I realised that it is very difficult to confirm a solution to a paticular questions unless the original poster posts the correct answer to the question. By the time the correct answer is posted by the person who raised the question the thread has already had quite a few number of posts including some more questions posted midway.
I think it would be a good idea to mention the correct answer along with the question so that puys working on it can see if they solved it right. Obviously this will also require that the person does not accidently look at the answer even before starting to solve the problem.
I thought of 2 possible solutions to it.
- Mention the correct anser in the post itself and make it of the same color as the background of the forum which is dark grey. The person who wants to see the answer can highlight the part and the answer should be visible. For eg: The answer is A . I have used the second last color in the last column from the color pallette. If you highlight the sentence 'The answer is' by selecting it using the mouse you can see the correct answer.
- The answer can be given in form a puzzle so that it is not immidiately apparent. For example if the answer is 2 you can say 'divide twenty one by seven and subtract one from result'.

Some scientists contend that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like a warm-blooded mammal's than a cold-blooded reptile's.
A.that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like
B.that the metabolism of many dinosaur species were more like
C.that the metabolisms of many species of dinosaurs were more like those of
D.there were many species of dinosaurs that had metabolisms more like those of
E.there were many dinosaur species that had a metabolism more like that of
Well, its really tough and I am stuck in a dilemma between A and E.
C and D can be eliminated because of the possessive redundancy "those of a warm blooded mammal's". One can say "those of a warm blooded mammal".
B can be eliminated because the plural verb "were" is not suitable for singular subject "metabolism".
So left with A and D. A seems correct because of the idiom "contend that" but the phrase "more like that of" in E seems more appropriate.
Finally i choose A.
Please post the OA for this.

Both A & B compare "metabolism" with "mammals/reptiles"....Comparison of unsimilar things.

option A could be read as warm-blooded mammal's **metabolism** than a cold-blooded reptile's **metabolism** . Usage of metabolism is implied after possessive noun. By the way, what is correct answer.

My take is "B".
D & E: Wrong because of "goverment's law suit expenditures".
C: wrong because of subject-verb aggreement (expenditure & amount)
B/w A & B, I'll go with B because of the use of "less".
