D) $20 billion a year in lost industrial output and tax revenues is the annual cost to the United States of illiteracy
E) lost industrial output and tax revenues cost the United States atleast $20 billion a year because of illiteracy

The answer is C

But I am not able to make out why B is not right. What is wrong with 'because of'.

Like we have a sentence

We got late because of rains. So 'because of' is not idiomatically wrong.

The mistake in the second option, B, is redundancy of information:

B) the annual cost of illiteracy to the United States is at least $20 billion a year because of lost industrial output and tax revenues.

well, i certainly dont see any explanations
I'll continue with the practice, the answers to the questions I posted are E, C, E, A, D, C :satisfie:

The answers are incorrect.

The last one is an OG question - it is there in OG11, not sure about earlier editions. I checked and the answer is D and not C. Would serve us well if you can check the authenticity of the source and explanations.

awww.... dont be so cocksure dude. may be the last answer was wrong, but if you cant figure out others, that does not necessarily make them wrong, does it?
and which is precisely the reason i requested the reasoning; i had the questions from 1000 SC. The answers are what they were given there, the validity of answers has been an issue with 1000 SC sometimes though the questions are mostly good. If you had shown a little camaraderie and did a bit of work in typing the reasoning, it would have been a greater help. we are not here to point fingers, but to help each other while learning ourselves from how others think. And i guess that takes a little effort from everyone. bear this in mind next time and instead of being a scavenger contribute in a positive way. I still hope you would take the pains to type the reasoning for the last answer :satisfie:
