As said in the post above, the problem here is Parallelism. It can be easily identified in the cases where a Noun is described doing certain actions - 'verbs'. They are all supposed follow the same tense.

One easy way to remember: The tense in the first verb should continue in the following ones.

For instance, I can't say:
Since yesterday was a holiday, I met some of my very old friends. We cried, laughing and played a lot.

It should be:
Since yesterday was a holiday, I met some of my very old friends. We cried, laughed and played a lot.

Hence the answer for the above question is C

Ofcourse, this is not the level of questions you would expect in an exam like GMAT; but just to explain the rule if it really helps someone...
