DumbJoe,
You are right in saying that "According to a recent study..." does modify "the elderly..". However, why do you feel that this is wrong? "the elderly..." could actually be the subject of the study. Then again, like I mentioned in my answer, D & E are wrong for other reasons as well. See my answer for that explanation. Among A, B & C, C seems to be the best answer.
Thanks.

answer is A, patchwork singular hence bustles, green fields plural hence surround, between A and C, C cant be right as farm workers are not subject hence 'who' cant be used
dumbJoe Says
answer is A, patchwork singular hence bustles, green fields plural hence surround, between A and C, C cant be right as farm workers are not subject hence 'who' cant be used

my doubt is wat does 'many of them refer to'?????

its a subordinate clause. appearing imediately after farm workers,it only can and does refer to the farm workers.

for the next one my take is A

Dumbjoe,
Why cant we take "Patchwork of Green fields" as a singular noun which will then be followed by surrounds and then eventually bustles. I think the answrr could be B. No?

Dumjoe,
Isnt same.....as..... supposed to be correct instead of same...that suggested be you? I think the answer is E.

I had already posted this question on Page 6. Post number 132 onwards.

We need the singular of "surround" since it is supposed to modify "green fields" which is plural. Also, we need the plural of "bustles" since it modifies the singular word "patchwork". Hence the answer is between (A) or (C). Describing "farm workers" with "many of who are" doesnt sound correct. Hence answer is (A).

In its most recent approach, the comet Crommelin passed the Earth at about the same distance and in about the same position, some 25 degrees above the horizon, that Halley's comet will pass the next time it appears.
(A) that Halley's comet will pass
(B) that Halley's comet is to be passing
(C) as Halley's comet
(D) as will Halley's comet
(E) as Halley's comet will do

(A) seems to be a clear case of redundancy to me. we do not need to state the same action of passing twice.
(B) is clearly wrong.
(C) doesnt maintain the future tense.
(E) is wordy and again kind of redundant again like (A).

(D) is the answer. Sounds correct to me.

(B) setting free more than the 500 slaves legally considered as
(C) and set free more than 500 slaves, who were legally considered as

(D) and set free more than the 500 slaves who were legally considered
(E) and he set free the more than 500 slaves who were legally considered as

Please explain....................

Two points to note here.
1) It was the "deed of emancipation" which freed the slaves and not Robert Carter III. Therefore answer is one of (A) and (B).
2) Meaning of "considered" is "regarded as". Hence "considered" does not have to be followed by "as". Hence answer is (A).

Answer is 'A'

(E) small mills, by processing steel scrap into a specialized group of products, have been able to put capital into new technology and remained

For parallelism, the answer should start with "small mills" to be parallel to the start of the sentence. Hence answer is one of (D) and (E).

The entire sentence is in the present tense. Hence (E) is out.

The answer is (D).

the ans are
1) A (great work alien)
2) D. my doubt is doesnt E user the future tense 'will do' correctly

Options A,B,C are out as it wrongly compares large steel plants to the processing of steel scrap.
E is out as remained is past tense and v r tokin bout the economic viabilty at present or say ill date

My take is (d).
