2. I goofed it up. E missed 'Being', which is important in this sentence. I don't think a clause starting with that is appropriate here.
Parallelism is important when you keep the meaning of sentence intact. Using that seems to change the meaning. Again I'm not grammar expert, and I got it wrong so can't make any suggestions. Somebody else might shed some light.
