(C) will venture to Mars again, a planet now known as being

i think its D "again before venture looks awkward and for the second part mars and a planet should come together so for me its D
whats the OA?

I would go with 'D', but to me, it doesn't seem like the correct answer.
Subordinate clause: 'It may be another fifteen years' (before event X)
Main clause: 'spacecraft from earth.........' (this is event X in above)
now verb in main clause has to agree with the subject i.e. spacecraft. So sentence 'before spacecraft from Earth again ventures to Mars, a planet now known to be cold, dry, and probably lifeless.' would be correct but 'D' has 'venture'.
in 'E' verb in main clause agrees with the subject but construction 'a planet known now as being' doesn't look right.
Any thoughts?
Hi Puys,
I am confused with the option 1 and 4.. OA is 4 .. what is wrong with 1 ? Can anyone explain
Once considered an invaluable reference, the Bible has been
increasingly neglected in modern schools as the legal system has defined more strictly the Constitutional division of church and state.
Options
- been increasingly neglected
- neglected, increasingly
- been neglected, increasingly
- been increasingly treated with neglect
- increasingly been treated with neglect

I'll go with (1) puys. And u al??
Regards,
Rohit.
i think in this sentence however is require for creating contrast, also that is require in the sentence. hence the only choice left is A
I'll go with (1) puys. And u al??

yes 1 is correct in which increasingly and been properly used
dgpatel Saysyes 1 is correct in which increasingly and been properly used
I also think 1 is the correct option. But the OA is 4.
Can anyone expln whether the OA is right or not?
Could you guys help me with a couple of SC questions involving past/present perfect tenses.
1. Reporting that one of (its many advisors had been detained by the police), the organization expressed its support and reaffirmed that the advisor would soon be released.
a. its many advisors had been detained by the police
b. its many advisors has been detained by the police.
I say answer is has been detained since the guy is still being detained when the organization was expressing support. Correct answer mentioned is a.
2. Denying that one of (its many irregularities had been the long term) mismanagement of company funds the AD&M; company produced clear evidence to back its claim.
a. its many regularities had been the long term.
b. its many regularities has been the long term.
Again, i say it is has been cause those still are (supposed to be) the ir-regularites.
3. The exhibition of ancient Egyptian funerary art - imposing statues, intricately painted coffins and numerous accoutrements, drew hundreds of people each day, (equivalent to the number of visitors to the) last year's Impressionist's show.
a. equivalent to the number of visitors to the last year's Impressionist's show.
b. the equivalent to those that had visited last year's Impressionist's show.
c. equal to those who visited
d. as many as the visitation to
e. as many as visited
According to me, the answer should be a, correct answer mentioned is e
Thanks guys.

1-a - agree with ur expln since 2 events in the past occurs at same pt. of time
2-a same as 1
3-b am not very sure. But I believe it should be B since 2 event are at diff pt of time in past.
Also 3rd Qtn is ambiguous - since in Qtn only "(equivalent to the number of visitors to the)" part is underlined which makes sense for the last 3 options c,d,e when replaced. But when replaced with option a or b "last year's Impressionist's show" part will get repeated.

i think
1-a,the 'reporting' makes me go for 'a'.
2-b,
3-all look suspect to me.a-'the' should not be there before 'last year's'
if i had to choose,i would pick e as it looks least wrong.not sure though.
I also think 1 is the correct option. But the OA is 4.

4 is correct. Because we do not increasingly neglect something, but we can increasingly treat with neglect..
So 'bible has been increasingly treated with neglect' is correct...

1 & 2 - using 'had is definitely correct because the speaker is usign reported speech.
3 - According to me Ans is (a)
a - 'hundreds for people' is compared to 'number of visitors', which is correct. No error is there.
b - Comparison is correct b/w 'hundreds for people' & 'those' but 'had' used there before visited is wrong, 'the' before 'equivalent' is also wrong.
c - 'equal' is wrong, because here exact numerical comparison is not intended
d - 'hundreds for people' wrongly compared to 'visitation'
e - 'those' is missing after as
hey prateek,
thanks for your response.
Pardon my ignorance but whats the reported speech gotta do with the verb tense?
