Growing competitive pressures may be encouraging auditors to bend the rules in favor of clients;auditors may, for instance, allow a questionable loan to remain on the books in order to maintain a bank's profits on paper. Make sure.. even u post a few questions which really seem to be different... Even i would like to learn..
Explanation: At first glance, only D & E follow a parallel structure in the sentence - 'the high cost', 'the pressure' should be followed by 'a base'. Hence A, B & C can be eliminated.
Between D and E, its choosing between the Active and the Passive voice (I think!) that makes the difference. Hence the answer is D. Also, I think 'as its base' gives the meaning of being a foundation. Could someone clarify this?
U are spot on wrt eliminating ABC .
Between D and E , reason for eliminating E should be :
Since E contains its at the end , its not sure to what does its refer back to . Is it refering to the marketing and distribution system or to the agriculture ?
Hence this confusion rules out the choice E as the answer.

And D is obviously the better choice of all .
Cheers

yes..both ck1 and saurabh_1983 are right....it should be most recently and since it is a comparision between two objects, u wud use larger and smaller and not small...hence, answer is E...
Your explanation and answer quoted (E) are controversial. You claim most to be present int he answer choice and you say E is correct which contains more.....

Answer is B .
Reason is :
Noun referant is analysis which is singular so provides should be used .
This eliminates A C E.
Left out options are : B and D .
D is eliminated because non underlined portion contains : use a hierarchial ......
only when animals is used in the underlined part can there be use a hierarchial....else would have been uses had there been animal(singular).
So left out with B which is obviously the better of the options.

my take option (A)
reason:i think, the part should end with 'that'.option E is close, but,it would be inappropriate to start the sentence with 'There' as in the second part, which starts with "it is difficult...".the start should be by "although/even/however/despite".

Not sure but I feel the ans is 'D'.

D That is omitted. E Using two independent clauses separated only by a comma creates a run-on sentence;the sense of the sentence is changed by the omission of may. The correct answer is A.
Hi All, I want to improve my fundamentals of GMAT Sentence Correction and want to make my basics strong first by practicising a lot of beginners(step 1) and intermediate level(step2) questions. Once they are in place I am planning to do the advanced level(step 3) questions. The Official Guide-10 and OG-11 have a mix of questions and I get really stuck in many questions(could not figure out how to do solve the question). So I feel that I have to improve my fundamentals a lot in SC area. Can somebody please help me in finding the questions of sentence correction that are categorised as per various difficulty level. It will be really very helpful if any of the fellow members please point me to a question bank which divides the questions of SC by difficulty level.

Heres one from Kaplan for which my answer slightly disagreed with the OA:
Out of the public's interest in the details of and conflicts in other people's lives have grown a booming market for "reality" television shows that are bringing "regular" people onto the television screen with increasing frequency.

i think, market is the important word, the "reality" part is just to divert attention.so,market.....is should be the phrase.so,we are left with C and D.here,D seems right,as,another person/people/increasing frequency is present.

expenditures amounts is wrong,so,A and E are eliminated. dramatically lower than is correct,so,B is eliminated.in D,dramatically lower sum than seems incorrect.so,option C seems right.

my take option (C)
Yes both are right....here are my confusions:
1. Is the market bringing people to television screens or are the reality shows bringing people t television screens? I figured that the shows are bringing people to TV screens and so selected option B which is exactly similar to D except for the are.
2. Which of the following is correct: The sum of two positive numbers can never be less than their difference. The sum of two positive numbers can never be lower than their difference.
I thiought sum is "less" is proper usage as sum is not a countable thing....just like "amount"..and so i selected option B in the lawsuits question..How am i wrong in these?
