Hi, In this question, why is E the best choice?I thought it would be B Of the twin supernovas, the most recently discovered is the largest, but it is the small one that has irrevocably altered astronomists ideas about the origins of the universe. (A) the most recently discovered is the largest, but it is the small one (B) the one most recently discovered is the largest, but it is the small one (C) the most recently discovered is larger, but it is the smaller (D) the more recently discovered one is the large one but the small one (E) the more recently discovered is the larger, but it is the smaller one
This one is from 1000 SCs.(I am beginning to think that a few of their answers may be wrong).
E is the correct answer. The comparison is between the two supernovas, therefore, 'larger' and 'smaller'....

yes..both ck1 and saurabh_1983 are right....it should be most recently and since it is a comparision between two objects, u wud use larger and smaller and not small...hence, answer is E...
Although the manager agreed to a more flexible work schedule, he said that it must be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor will know what everyone is assigned to do.
(A) he said that it must be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor will know what everyone is (B) he said it had to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor knows what everyone is (C) he said that they would have to post the assignments on the bulletin board so that management and labor knew what everyone was (D) he said that the schedule would have to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor would know what everyone was (E) saying that the schedule had to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor would know what everyone had been

The answer is option A.
Pretty straight forward since the other options mix up the tenses.

(A) he said that it must be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor will know what everyone is (B) he said it had to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor knows what everyone is (C) he said that they would have to post the assignments on the bulletin board so that management and labor knew what everyone was (D) he said that the schedule would have to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor would know what everyone was (E) saying that the schedule had to be posted on the bulletin board so that both management and labor would know what everyone had been
answer is A.. Reasons :
B - mixed tenses..."had" and "knows" C - changes the meaning of the original sentence.. moreover, "assignments" has been unnecessarily introduced. D&E; - though there might be other mistakes, but an obvious mistake is redundant use of "schedule" to convey the same.. "schedule" can grammatically be replaced with "it" as has been done in other options.

The answer is option A.
Reason: A. Correct. 'aid in' is the correct idiom. B and C. The 'either...or' structure is missing. D. Parallelism flaw. Since 'either asking' appears in the first part, the second part should be 'or thanking'. E. 'aid to' is the wrong idiom.

Thanks for quick reply , I agree with u that A is the correct option but in 'aid to' is also correct idiom but it is not suitable in the present context
Aid in (doing something) (give) aid to (someone or something)
This is frequently the case with idioms that one preposition is appropriate when referring to a gerund and and another for a noun.

The answer is option D.
Explanation: At first glance, only D & E follow a parallel structure in the sentence - 'the high cost', 'the pressure' should be followed by 'a base'. Hence A, B & C can be eliminated.
Between D and E, its choosing between the Active and the Passive voice (I think!) that makes the difference. Hence the answer is D. Also, I think 'as its base' gives the meaning of being a foundation. Could someone clarify this?

My take is D . I am divided between E and D, since a word starting with a vowel must be preceeded by a "an" and from what i have read and heard it has always been
There is an abundance of material ...
But D sounds correct, plus the connector "that" makes the sentence more meaningful
