I would go for E. It is very concise and without any grammatical flaw..
I think it should be alterations in the interest rates..
Please post the OA.
Economic Analysts......
The official answer is E. However, the reason I posted this was because I felt the official answer is C because E alters the meaning of the sentence. E, while grammatically correct, makes it sound as though the change will automatically occur, while C (which is also grammatically correct) correctly mentions that the change would occur ....

Additionally, I think "interest rate will change considerably" has a different meaning that "considerable alterations to the interest rate". In "the coming months" the interest rate could vary over a wide range and end up at the same rate. In that case "interest rate did not change considerably" over these months, but there were "considerable alterations to the interest rate".

(A) Like Haydn, Schubert

(E) As Haydn did, Schubert also

here, we have 2 independent clauses - "Schubert wrote a great deal for the stage" and "he is remembered principally for his chamber and concert-hall music". So with these clauses, the sentence wants to convey that Schubert & Hayden did same thing but in that work Schubert had a different specialization than Hayden had.
To convey this contrast better, we should include "also", so we are left with options B,D & E

now let's take E.
"As Haydn did" is an subordinate clause which should reflect the contrast presented by the following 2 independent clauses but it doesn't. It only reflect the first independent clause not the second one.
In D - same error as in E, it also lacks parallelism by putting verb before subject.
So B is the right answer.

'Like' is used when u compare two nouns. 'As' is used when u say that one noun is essentially the same as the other!

In this question, what Schubert did was something 'similar' to what Haydn did; you are comparing two people here. Hence, the statement should start with 'Like'. Eliminate C, D, E. The "also" in B is unnecessary as it doesn't add any additional meaning to the sentence. Hence eliminate B. A Wins!

1.Local residents claim that San Antonio, Texas, has more good Mexican American restaurants than any city does in the United States.(A) any city does

A - San Antonio is in the US. So, you need to compare it with some "other" city in the US. A doesn't do that. Eliminate A.

C - More X than Y. Compare a singular entity with a singular entity. "Other cities" is plural while San Antonio is singluar. Eliminated.

D - Same issue as A.
E - Same issue as C.

B scores a knockout!

A. her being a woman
B. being a woman is
C. her womanhood
D. that she was a woman
E. that she is a woman

A, B - Being is unnecessary - eliminate.
C - "her" apparently refers to the "new managing editor". Try plugging in the words "new managing editor" instead of her and see if the statement makes sense. So you get ".... industry than new managing editor womanhood". Doesn't fit.. Eliminate.

Now, D and E maintain parallelism and each could be right depending on which tense is used in the rest of the sentence. The part "leadership position is" indicates that the present tense needs to be used. Hence eliminate D.

E it is!

1 and 2 are obviously out due to the not only.. but also rule!

'Like' is used for comparing two nouns. However, in 4 it is used to cite examples. For citing examples, 'such as' is preferred. Hence 4 is out!

In 3, 'salinity' is orphaned due to the way the sentence is structured. The sentence doens't really make sense!

That leaves us with 5.
