If x is a positive integer and y is a non-negative integer such that (2066)^y is a divisor of 3176793, what is the value of y^x - x^y ?

A) -81
B) -1
C) 0
D) 81
E) 1

Only y=0 satisfies the 3176793/(2066)^y, and x is +ve so -1.
But surely now onwards u wont miss this.

u bet, it does.. infact PG rocks!! 😃
Guys... Please post answers with permutations/combinations approach.

How many times will the number 7 be written when listing the integers from 1 to 1000?

1) 110
2) 111
3) 271
4) 300
5) 304

Harsh, Amazing GMAT prep score ...keep going...

different approach :

1) 7 In units place:
Then tens place and hundreds place can be filled in 10 ways each...
total no of ways = 10*10*1 = 100

2) 7 In tens place:
Then hundreds place and units place can be filled in 10 ways each...
total no of ways = 10*1*10 = 100

3) 7 In hundreds place:
Then tens place and units place can be filled in 10 ways each ...
total no of ways = 1*10*10 = 100

total no of ways = 100+100+100=300

for a 3 digit number: XYZ

1. Lets say 7 goes in place for X. Then Y can be filled in 10(from 0 through 9) ways and Z can be filled in 10 (from 0 through 9) ways
So when 7 takes place of X, there can be 10*10=100 possibilities.

2. When takes place of Y, X can be filled in 9 ways(all digits except 0) and Z can be filled in 10(from 0 through 9) ways .
So when 7 takes place of Y, there can be 9*10=90 possibilities.

3. Similar to case 2, when 7 takes place of Z we will have 9*10 ways.
Total = 100+ 90 + 90 =280 ways when 7 can appear as one or many digits in a 3 digit number.

Ans 300
In a single digit num, 7 can appear = 1 ways
In a double digit num, 7 can appear = 10(when 7 is the 10s digit) + 9(when 7 is 1s digit, leaving out 0 at 10s place) = 19 ways
Similarly in three digit num = 10*10 + 10*9 + 10*9 = 280.

Total num of ways = 1 + 19 + 280 = 300

Similarly in three digit num = 10*10 + 10*9 + 10*9 = 280.

Hey Bizzare can you plz elaborate on this part?

Each side of a certain parallelogram has length 6. if the area of the parallelogram is 18. which of the following is the measure of one of its angles?

A. 30 B. 45 C. 60 D. 90 E.120

A 30 should be the answer.

Area of thombus= base * height use this.

Sorry if this is a repost:

The first 3 terms of a sequence are 2,7,22. Each term, after the first, is obtained by multiplying the previous term by 3 and then adding 1. If the sequence continues to expand, what will be the sum of the tens and the unit digits of the thirty fifth term in the sequence.

A. 2
B. 4
C. 7
D. 9
E. 13

A salesman's income consists of 2 components: C & R. R= $350/week. His goal is to make enough C to average $500 in total income per week. Over the past 5 weeks, his weekly income totals have been $406, $413, $420, $436, $395. By approx what percent does he need to raise his avg. weekly C, over the next 2 weeks, to raise his avg, weekly income to $500 over the 7-week period.

A. 74%

C. 176%

IMO B

here the sequence is a follows:

2,7,22,67,202,607,2022,6067,...

so after every 4 terms the digits repeat as underlined.

So 35 term has 22 as units and tenths digit. So the sum is 4.

A certain club has 10 members, including Harry. One of the 10 members is to be chosen at random to be the president, one of the remaining 9 members is to be chosen at random to be the secretary, and one of the remaining 8 members is to be chosen at random to be the treasurer. what is the probability that Harry will be either the member chosen to be the secretary or the member chosen to be the treasurer?

My take is E

avg c for first 5 months= 64
total C target for next 2 months =150*2 +(150-64)*5 =730
Avr C target for 1 month =365.

% increase = (365-64)/64 *100 approx 470%

hi,
the number of ways to chose a secretary and a treasurer are 9*8 = 72
the number of ways in which Harry is chosen are = 10C1 = 10
so the probability is 10/72
hope it is correct...

Although for the sake of Marking I would chose 176%,
The actual number I arrived at is not listed in the choices. I dont understand where I missed. Please check and provide your insights.

5 weeks total income: 2070
7 weeks total income: 3500
So Diff: 1430 is what he needs to earn to reach the target
Rate for 2 weeks: 350 *2 = 700
Need to earn on Commission: 1430 - 700 = 730
So Commission /week: 730/2: 365.

Original commission /week is 150.
So extra needed is 365-150 = 215

% Increase therefore would be 215/150 * 100 = 143.33 %

Thanks Rohit. I missed calculating the avg commission for the first 5 weeks. doh !
Answer should be E, 470%.

P(Sec) = 9/10*1/9 = 1/10
P(Tres) =9/10*8/9*1/8 =1/10

P(Sec) + P(Tres) = 1/10 +1/10 = 1/5 is ans IMO

i solved it in a hurry...
area = 18 = b*h , h=3
the sides of rt angled triangle are 3:3root3:6.
the rt-angled triangle would be a 30-60-90
... so the angle of the parallelogram shd be 120

IMO - E) 120

OA is 176.

You might want to research on how to get it.

Nisha,
If right angle triangle is 30-60-90 , you can get the angle as 30 right? :)
Imagine the diagram... you will get this.
Other angle is 150.
Answer is 30.

Concept:
P(S u T) = P (S) + P(T) - P(S n T)
S and T is not possible so P (S n T) is 0
For Sec or Tres we need to find P(S) + P(T).

Now - The grind:
For Harry to be Secretary, he Should not be the president and should be the chosen one for secretary. So probability of that is: 9/10 * 1/9 = 1/10

For Harry to be Treasurer, he Should not be the president, he should not be the secretary, and should be the chosen one for Treasurer. So probability of that is: 9/10 * 8/9 * 1/8 = 1/10

Adding these. P of S or T is: 1/10 + 1/10 = 1/5
