IMO A is correct

yup.. all u guys r ryt.. OA is A..
A Correct : As the argument suggests : ' bottlenecks and delays cannot be eliminated unless all work is done right the first time.', therefore the assumption is that flaws would be prevented in the Fast cycle time. If flaws are prevented; it will result in a better quality.
B Out of scope(The argument only talks about 'designing a manufacturing organization' not 'product design') :Eliminated
C Out of scope :Eliminated
D suggests that the quality will decline: Eliminated
E Out of scope :Eliminated

Out of scope = The argument does not contain this information.

In 1986, the city of Los Diablos had 20 days on which air pollution reached unhealthful amounts and a smog alert was put into effect. In early 1987, new air pollution control measures were enacted, but the city had smog alerts on 31 days that year and on 39 days the following year. In 1989, however, the number of smog alerts in Los Diablos dropped to sixteen. The main air pollutants in Los Diablos are ozone and carbon monoxide, and since 1986 the levels of both have been monitored by gas spectrography.
Which of the following statements, assuming that each is true, would be LEAST helpful in explaining the air pollution levels in Los Diablos between 1986 and 1989?

(A) The 1987 air pollution control measures enacted in Los Diablos were put into effect in November of 1988.
(B) In December of 1988 a new and far more accurate gas spectrometer was invented.
(C) In February of 1989, the Pollution Control Board of Los Diablos revised the scale used to determine the amount of air pollution considered unhealthful.
(D) In 1988 the mayor of Los Diablos was found to have accepted large campaign donations from local industries and to have exempted those same industries from air pollution control measures.
(E) Excess ozone and carbon monoxide require a minimum of two years to break down naturally in the atmosphere above a given area.

Is it D as campaign donations seems to be the least helpful in this case .The rest of them all indicate why O3 and CO could have reduced

well, answer is B. This is a case of red herring u can say. B and D both are close. B says a far more accurate gas spectrometer was invented but it never says they used it.

Option B seems to be most correct....

Every moral theory developed in the Western tradition purports to tell us what a good life is. However, most people would judge someone who perfectly embodies the ideals of any one of these theories not to be living a good life - the kind of life they would want for themselves and their children.

The statements above, if true, most strongly support which one of the following?

A. Most people desire a life for themselves and their children that is better than a merely good life
B. A person who fits the ideals of one moral theory is the Western tradition would not necessarily fir the ideals of another.
C. Most people have a conception of a good life that does not match that of any other moral theory in the western tradition.
D. A good life as described by moral theories is the Western tradition cannot be realized.
E. It is impossible to develop a theory that accurately described what a good life is.

E. It is impossible to develop a theory that accurately described what a good life is.

I'd have to go with C in this one..

Reason : C and E are the only options which can be considered close enough to the answer. In case of E if it is impossible to describe a theory, it still does not answer why people do not fall in line with the Western theories.
Whereas in C, it clearly states that since people's conception does not match with the theories given by the Western tradition so they do not think that a person who is following these ideals to be leading a good life.

Makes sense ???

My take C.

moral theory - Western tradition - most people - someone who perfectly embodies the ideals of any one of these theories - not to be living a good life.

implies => Most people have a conception of a good life that does not match that of any other moral theory in the western tradition.

A- generic statement. Not inline with the arguments' moral theory
B- Out of scope: The argument does not talk about anyone following more than one moral theories.
C - correct
D- Out of scope - The argument does not say that. Rather it says it has been realized, just that people don't think its a good life.
E - Out of scope.

LOL ! Powerscore 's Question C is the answer !!

This is my earnest appeal to all the participants.
Lets do it the CR style, can't help

Premise 1: All the questions we discuss have been discussed previously, although explanations are not easy to find.
Premise 2: We all know that we would not be getting any question we have seen before.
Conclusion: Lets utilize this opportunity to get our logic in place. Please make a conscious effort to write your line of thought.

You can trust me on this one. I am not a GMAT virgin :)

P.S. : No counter premises please .

OA for that question is A.. u guys all are ryt..

now try this..
Czanne's art inspired the next generation of artists,
twentieth-century modernist creators of abstract art.
While most experts rank Czanne as an early
modernist, a small few reject this idea. Franoise
Cachin, for example, bluntly states that such an
ascription is "overplayed," and says that Czanne's
work is "too often observed from a modern point of
view."

Which one of the following statements is most
strongly supported by the information above?

(A) Czanne's work is highly controversial.
(B) Czanne was an early creator of abstract art.
(C) Czanne's work helped to develop modernism.
(D) Modern art owes less to Czanne than many
experts believe.
(E) Czanne's work tends to be misinterpreted as
modernist.

My take C.
A. Incorrect ; "a small few reject this idea" hence not controversial
B. "Czanne's art inspired the next generation of artists,
twentieth-century modernist creators of abstract art" - does not mean he created.
C. Correct - "Czanne's art inspired the next generation of artists,
twentieth-century modernist creators of abstract art"- inspired means helped to develop.
D. Incorrect -"a small few reject this idea"+ that he helped - therefore "many
experts believe" is incorrect.
E. Incorrect - "tends to be" means often/frequently (general opinion of people)- the argument gives only one example of "Franoise Cachin", which is not sufficient. and yet again "a small few reject this idea".

IMO C....Gail.Wynand has already beautifully explained it

It should be C. In 1989 the scale to measure the air pollution was revised. It is helping the least in explaining the pollution between 1986 - 1989.

C i think...all other options can be eliminated as shown by Gail..
1. Contrary to the statements of labor leaders, the central economic problem facing America today is not the distribution of wealth. It is productivity. With the productivity of U.S. industry stagnant, or even declining slightly, the economic pie is no longer growing. Labor leaders, of course, point to what they consider an unfair distribution of the slices of pie to justify their demands for further increases in wages and benefits. And in the past, when the pie was still growing, management could afford to acquiesce. No longer. Until productivity resumes its growth, there can be no justification for further increases in the compensation of workers.
Which of the following statements by a labor leader focuses on the logical weakness in the argument above?
(A) Although the economic pie is no longer growing, the portion of the pie allocated to American workers remains unjustly small.
(B) If management fails to accommodate the demands of workers, labor leaders will be forced to call strikes that will cripple the operation of industry.
(C) Although productivity is stagnant, the U.S. population is growing, so that the absolute size of the economic pie continues to grow as well.
(D) As a labor leader, I can be concerned only with the needs of working people, not with the problems faced by management.
(E) The stagnation of U.S. industry has been caused largely by factors-such as foreign competition-beyond the control of American workers.

2. Freud's theories of the workings of the mind, while brilliant for their day, were formulated before most of this century's great advances in neurophysiology and biochemistry. Today, we have a far deeper understanding of the biological components of thought, emotion, and behavior than was dreamed of eighty years ago. It would be foolish to continue parroting Freud's psychological theories as if these advances had never occurred.
It can be inferred from the passage above that the author would be most likely to favor
(A) the abandonment of most of Freud's theories
(B) a greater reliance on biological rather than psychological explanations of behavior
(C) a critical reexamination of Freud's place in the history of psychology
(D) a reexamination of Freud's theories in the light of contemporary biology
(E) increased financial support for studies in neurophysiology and biochemistry

Slightly ambiguous :

My take:
---------------
The argument talks about the labor union saying that the economic problem is the distribution of wealth. The author however refutes this and says that its productivity.
The question is asking "what statement of the labor union could weaken/negate the argument made by the author.
If the labor union proves that workers are not responsible for the stagnation/productivity then he can weaken the argument.
---------------
E- Correct. If the foreign competition is causing the loss of productivity then the workers can't do much about it.

The argument lays stress on the advances that science has made in the understanding of the mind.
A- Although suggested - He is not making any such appeal to the readers.
B- Correct. The author is trying to say that biological methods are more reliable. He says "Today, we have a far deeper understanding of the biological components of thought, emotion, and behavior"
C-Out of scope. Not in the argument
D-Out of scope. The author does not say so.
E-Out of scope.

Tricky ha... πŸ˜‰
well, OA for 1.) A and 2)D.

1st one was good question combining RC and CR both. the first line says "Contrary to the statements of labor leaders, the central economic problem facing America today is not the distribution of wealth." meaning that labor leaders believe that prob is distribution of wealth. and choice A highlights exactly that. For E, argument never talks about competitiveness so it is out of scope. I have this prob of usually not focusing on 1st line of arguments in CR and that tricked me.

2nd question is also about picking words from argument i think. see that "parroting". so author will logically say dont do parroting of theory, instead re-examine in the light of biology. B is a heart-string i also picked that.

can someone come up with better explanation?
