GIM Placements 2007: Better Salaries, Even Better Profiles.. !!

Placements for the Class of 2007 started on 15th of December and ended late in the evening, the next day. During this period, 116 students from different academic backgrounds with varying work experience were selected and placed in 31 companies. This year, main recruiters came from the IT, Consulting, Financial Services, Banking, Telecom and Automotive sectors.

A total of 193 offers were made to 116 students. The IT sector was the largest recruiter with Infosys Technologies (25 offers), Cognizant Technology Solutions (24 offers) and IBM (11 offers) giving highest number of offers. Some of the first time recruiters this year were Accenture, Deloitte, Idea Cellular, HP, HSBC Bank, Hutch, Madura Garments and Tata Motors. A total of 78 companies showed interest in recruiting students from GIM and 47 were slotted for the final placement process. Of these, only 31 companies could recruit GIM students.

The average salary showed an increase of 22.13% to Rs. 6.41 lakh per annum thisyear as against Rs.5.24 lakh last year. Similarly the highest (annual) salary offered was Rs. 9 lakh, as against Rs.8 lakh last year. The median salary this year was Rs. 6.5 lakh, with the least salary offered being Rs. 4 lakh.

The real story of Placements 07 was, however, not the salaries, but the job profiles that companies offered. Students rejected very high packages in preference of the profiles that constituted their dream jobs. Along with the usually offered profiles, some of the interesting new profiles & roles offered this year were:
  1. Derivative Modeling
  2. Credit Risk Management
  3. Supply Chain Consulting
  4. Investment Banking
  5. Wealth Management
  6. Web Marketing
  7. Project Finance
  8. Loan Syndication
  9. Financial Analytics
Another feather in the cap of GIM was the offer from Kotak Securities International for a foreign placement. The student will be inducted in their Dubai operations after probation. It is an important beginning and a harbinger of the times to come when GIM will be a truly global B-School.

The summer internship process is also approaching full throttle with big names like Yahoo! and Deloitte offering projects to students with stipends as high as Rs.45,000 pm. Also, web startups like Pagalguy.com have offered unique profiles, indicating the emergence of new career options after MBA.

(Refer to the attached placement report for more details)

Is there any authenticity to all these stats??
After all these are put up by the institute itself...
They might very well render numbers which look impresssive so as to bring in more number of prospective students.

All the figures are sent to AICTE for cross-checking (as we are accredited by them). They check the offer letters. They may also call up a few companies and check whether the information we have provided is true.

The reason we do NOT make all the details public is because companies request us not to. You have heard of differential salaries? A company "may" give a higher offer at GIM, because it fells students here are better.

But i think there is some discrepancy over the CTC.
Is the average CTC equal to 6.41 or does this figure include perks as well...
my answer is the latter

Kudos to GIM for the excellent placements

Different B-Schools compute the CTC differently. Usually it is provided by companies and most good companies are "ethical" about this figure.

At GIM, all "assured payments" to the employee in "monetary" terms are included in CTC. For eg: if there is a "guaranteed" fixed bonus payment at the end of the year, then it will be included in your CTC. A lot of perks are designed so as to save you from paying tax. Thus a perk like LTC which can be "en cashed" at the end of the year is also included in CTC.

Lets see what is NOT included in CTC at GIM. Items like phone bills, internet allowance are NOT included in the CTC. Also performance based (variable) pay will NOT be included in CTC, unless a minimum is specified.

I hope I made it clear.

Good going GIM! Keep doing great!!

 Class of 2007 !!! Really impressive placements

ciao..
