GIM(Goa Institute Of Management) GD-PI Experiences 2014-16

Do we need to carry a black pen for something ?

@Ambitiousgal12 @davidwatson1212 @avinashkrjha Looking into last year GD PI thread and this year's as well , one question that is asked to all candidates was what other calls they have ? it would be really helpful if you let us know what the panelists are exactly looking from this question. is it okay to let them know all the calls i have and say why gim is special or better not to talk about other calls . your experiences will be helpful πŸ˜ƒ thanks in advance πŸ˜ƒ

please tell me what all details did we fill in the application form....pleaseeee

I have my intrvw tomorrow...but havn't prepared my resume yet....guys do we need to carry resume? or any personal data form?

Someone please post some experiences. The forum for what it was initiated isn't getting the desired posts. Please do post. Thanks

Batch of Interview - Delhi , YMCA - 1.30 P.M - 1/03/14

Process- PGDM

We were introduced to the the Director and few other faculty members and an Alumnus of GIM . They attended to any questions that the aspirants had and then all were divided into panels .

I was given PANEL 1 . Director of the institute (D) and one male faculty (F) .
GD Topic : Twitter , SMS , t20 - is the world moving at a faster pace ?

opening statements made - 30 secs , Discussion - 10 mins , Closing statements - 30 secs .
Our group had 8/9 participants , went alright , i chipped in 3/4 times .

WAT on same topic , time given 5-6 mins .

Experience -PI - I was the last in the panel but was called at 2nd itself . I was surprised and said ,

" But sir i am the last one " .
The moment i entered D said that it is the prerogative of the panel to call anyone at any time 😁
I said yes and he asked me to introduce myself .
Then asked why MBA , i said career growth ,. he went on to discuss how the current and Last CEO's of my co. are and were not MBA'S . I told him something and he seemed satisfied .

F told D that he find me boring , this was done intentionally on part of F to unsettle me p . D told me to tell a joke or a funny instance : I was not expecting this , still i told an instance . they were not amused . 😞

Finally D asked me my scores and which other calls , i told IMT-G first pref , 2nd GIM .

Then he asked any ques for us ?
I asked about scholarships . He told and it was over πŸ˜ƒ .

Any other interesting thing - D told me not to discuss my exp. with anyone outside the batch and go off straight 😁 .

So based on this exp , i am amused .Keeping fingers crossed to get a First list convert with scholarship πŸ˜ƒ

ATB to everyone .

Request all people who are done with their GD/PI to post their experiences whenever they are free , many of the aspirants here are waiting for the same.

A pleasant gd, reached a consesus (too soon, i guess :P)

Experience -PI -

Was the first one to be called in.

Panel consisted of two males. One was A G Balasubramanian, the other was Hemant Kumar Padhiari (just looked them up in GIM faculty).

The panel was pleasant. Standard questions asked - family background, why mba, any specialization, a little about the current affairs pertaining to electronics (i am a B.E. in ECE). That's it.

All the best, people! πŸ˜ƒ

I had my gd pi today
More than 2 years experience in an MNC. The gd was about making social service compulsory in MBA curriculam . It was fish market and i was seated in complete far away corner 😠 , a group of people were indulged in some serious discussion , they weren't even looking at others. It was a fish market , the panel even stopped us in between to discuss properly but again it was a fish market. After lot of difficulty i got very few chance to share some points. But i though it was OK.
Had 3 people in PI Panel, two profs, 1 alumni.
Asked me about myself, elections, interests and such random things.
They asked me about my companies turn over and i said in billions and One panelist asked me to tell it in crores and i was stuck. After lot of mathematical calculation , i missed a zero 😠
then he said you sound confident here, but why were you not so confident in GD ( i was taken aback bcs i thought i did give a good try) I told them the same anyway.
Overall the PI was broad answer question, nothing specific, No idea how it went!! p
and yeah, we were given few seconds to share our thoughts in the beginning and in the end of the discussion.

Hello evry1.. I have my gd/pi tomorrow at 1.15pm at ymca tourist hostel new delhi .. How much time is it gonna take 4 d whole process to get over?

Batch of Interview -

YMCA, New Delhi, 2nd March, 8:30 AM

Process- The process was absolutely smooth and well managed. My batch had 3 people as part of the panel out which 1 was the GIM DIrector (Dr. Sunil Rai), 1 alumni (Joydeep) and 1 more alumni (just can't recollect the gentleman's name)

GD Topic - Is placement more important than the value of the education?
Experience - GD was well managed by all the participants (9 in all). It wasn't a fish market. Everyone was asked to share his/her opening comments (30 secs) followed by the discussion followed by closing statement (30 sec) followed by WAT (250 words, 5 minutes). I think I was able to share quite a few critical points but I also know that I could have probably done more. WAT wasn't a challenge since almost all were able to pen down their thoughts in 5 minutes.
PI - I was the 7th to go for PI in a batch of 9. People who had gone before me said that their PIs were quite chilled out and no one in particular looked anxious or sad. I echo the same thoughts, it was one of the most chilled out PI I have ever been a part of. As I said, the panel had 3 people -
1 was the GIM DIrector (P1), 1 alumni (P2) and 1 more alumni (P3).
P1 - Are you sure you want to join an institute that ask people to carry their own chair into the PI room (we all were given a chair to sit outside the PI room and while entering the PI room, we had to carry our chain in).
Me - that's absolutely fine sir, picking a chair is no issue at all. More gyaan on no job is good/bad...blah blah
P1 - What do you think about the GD?
Me - I think overall it was fine but certainly we could have added more value points to the discussion (including myself) considering the topic was simple (P1 nodded in a way that he looked convinced)
P1 - so tell me about yourself
Me - told...
P3 - if you can share, how much is your CTC as of now
Me - told
P1, P2, P3 - that's so good. Why would you want to leave that salary and the brand for an MBA now
Me - shared how MBA fits into the current juncture of my life...blah blah
P1 - what work did you do in your 1st organization?
Me - told
P1 - why did you leave that organization?
Me - told (P1 looked convinced)
P1 - i seriously don't think that you should go for an MBA now, especially a 2 year MBA. Go for an executive MBA and you could work just after 1 year of MBA and not slog it out for 2 years
Me - again shared my thoughts on why MBA now and how it will help me define my journey, blah blah
P3 - do you realize how frustrated you could get if you don't find a job on campus considering organizations that hire from campus don't look at students with so much work ex
Me - told about my strong network that I have built over the past 4.5 years and how I deal with frustration at my end
P2 - I think you should try for ISB
Me - shared that I took GMAT twice last year but couldn't score well
P2 - how much did you score in both attempts?
Me - told
P2 - that's too less, what's your problem area
Me - quant
P2 - but you will have a few mat subjects in your MBA too, how would you deal with it then. You will be screwed
Me - i understand sir, but I am not horrible at maths (all three laughed a genuine laugh) and i will certainly be able to compensate by doing well in other subjects. I have tried my best to improve my math ability but haven't been able to do so (they all looked convinced)
P2 - why such low marks in your graduation
Me - it's completely my fault, I didn't realize in the 1st year that not attending classes etc will impact my results later on (P1 looked at P2 and had a grin on his face). But in 2nd year I knew I have to make up for things and hence I did exceedingly well in 2nd and 3rd year (they seemed to look convinced)
P1 - I would again tell you as a teacher that you should seriously think about not doing a 2 year MBA
Me - i again shared my view point differently but I was sure that I have to look convinced myself about my decision to be able to convince them
P2 - please give me your XAT score card
Me - (oops). I am sorry sir, I forgot to bring it but I can share my score.
P2 - tell me
Me - told
P3 - I really don't think you would be able to deal with the frustration of not being able to find yourself a job on campus when you will see your fellow batch mates landing jobs
Me - again shared about my network, how mentally prepared I am for things, gave some philosophical gyaan about one has to define his/her own journey and it's up to me to define my path (seemed to look convinced)
P1 - by the time you are done with your MBA, you will be 28...don't you think that would be too late for your marriage
Me - Marriage isn't in my plans (all three looked so amazed and shocked as if I have committed a sin)
P1 - what? why?
Me - told about how I don't believe in it, blah blah (all of us laughed a lot on this)
P1 and P3 - be mentally prepared for things (god knows what that was for, I hope it was for my journey at GIM)
P1 - thank you, you may leave
Me - thank you all

My advice to all is just be relaxed and play cool, and be absolutely convinced about what you are saying to the panel

Can't wait for the results now!!!

Guys justa word of advice:

The faculties taking ur pi, on many ocassions will make u really comfortable, it is then that you must be really carefull. Be honest.. All the best..
