Fpm 2013

@gajamani couldnt agree more with you 😁
@caprion I haven't received any telephonic interview calls from isb neither any such emails. So, i suppose they will directly accept me or reject me coz its mentioned on their site that the interview is not mandatory and its may be taken for those with whom isb profs need to clarify the research interests or research areas.

@rahul5184 in which area have you applied in...and its hard to understand the process for FPM programs...it is very profile dependent i believe

@gajamani

Thanks for the valuable info about RAT. I want to ask about the test pattern- no. of questions, total time and negative marking scheme (whether 1/4 or 1/3 or 2/3 negative marking). Is there any case study section in RAT?

Is it mandatory to stay at IIM hostel during the selection process because I have got friends in Bangalore and so far I plan to stay with them.

Thanks in advance.
@caprion i have applied to information systems and u ?

Operations Management

As far as I know, historically, ISB has required interviews from all selected candidates even though they say that interview is not required. This is to the best of my knowledge and I may be wrong. However, last year, people who couldn't attend campus interview were interviewed via skype.

hello people

I am pretty new here at FPM thread....so what happened is that I just got shortlisted by IIM Rohtak for their FPM program......which is a completely surprise to me ...got interview for operations..... can somebody help me as I'm clueless about FPM program at IIM Rohtak.....how good is it compared to PGDM from say, TAPMI........i know PGDM n FPM are completely different
@mba__man ha ha ha.......I can understand this
@gajamani I saw your post you mentioned something like "FPM offers corporate placements also. But the corporate placements are limited and they are primarily Analytics companies (HP, Fidelity, etc.) or Consultancy companies (Infosys consulting, Accenture consulting etc.). They pay well compared to Software engineer salaries. However they pay less than what they would pay a PGP graduate."
1. Why companies pay less as compard to PGP grd
2. is it true for all IIMs..
3. I am interested to join R&D; wing after FPM.
4. Please tell me whats an average corporate pay to FPM in terms of CTC..
Thanks in advance.. Please revert..

Hi Frnds shortlisted for IIM rohtak too.. List is out please see on

I am in FPM for Information Systems..

Best dress to wear for males in IIM Interviews.. Please suggest..

@GauravPuri 1) & 2) @gajamani I have not come across any situation where FPMs are paid less than PGPs for the same role. Is that the case at IIMB? At IIMA, that is certainly not the case. For the same role, there is no difference in pay. Infact companies could hire FPMs at a senior position compared to PGP for a similar role profile, something which has happened at IIMA recently.
3) There are enough research opportunities should you wish to join corporate R&D.; It, however, depends on the area you come from and the type of research you want to do. Be rest assured.
4) It depends on candidate's FPM work, prior work experience, background, and the role/firm/industry the candidate is interested in. So, it's difficult to put one figure to that. If you are interested: For PGPs, top-tier consulting and finance firms could offer in excess of 20 LPA, while other consulting and finance firms offer in the range of 14-20. An FPM gets a similar compensation if he/she decides to opt for these firms/roles.

Why would you want to compare you salaries and positions with PGP students after a FPM...the roles should be significantly different..and salaries would depend on your research and network...FPM i do believe is not the program if you just want to earn loads of money..there are easier ways

@gajamani....... As u said "Since you choose the thesis topic in FPM (unlike Phds where you work with your guide), nobody will follow-up or chase you. You have to be completely self-motivated to complete the thesis, because finally the topic is your choice !!. Nobody can help you , other than your own self !!.". Does this mean the guides don't help.?

@gajamani thank you for all the pointers they are very helpful with the prep and also for setting the mind at ease. Will you be arnd on 4th eve? I am shortlisted for OB
@Adymos Yes I will be there for sure. We can discuss in person when you come on 4th. I will also introduce you to OBHR seniors in case you havent already got in touch with them.
@horsehead I dont remember the number of questions in each section. There is negative marking at a 25% level. There are some changes from time to time. For example DI became more prominent in the last 2-3 years. There is no case study / essay in the main RAT. There was only a RC section. However for the area specific tests (like some areas like CSP, OB and PP etc.) the questions are either case based or essay based. For POM, QM and Marketing there were no area specific tests in the past. You can stay outside also, no issues !. However the dinner with seniors (if you choose to attend the session) will finish by 9 PM. After that many people hang around for additional informal discussions. Some areas the RAT results also come out only after 9 PM. So if you are staying outside, either be prepared to leave the campus late in the evening / have friends who can check the notice board and pass the message of your interview timing back to you.
@GauravPuri and @drish I did not say that FPMs get lower than PGP "for the same role". That would be crazy !. 😃 The type of roles that are offered for FPMs are usually different, especially in case of lateral recruitment. In case of freshers in PGP or FPM, it does not matter, except for the fact that PGPs complete in 2 years, while we FPMs take 5 years !. In case of lateral recruitment, the number of roles in corporate firms open to PGPs are lot more than those for FPMs. Based on the prior background of FPM student (in case he comes from analytics, consulting or R&D; background) then the experience would be considered relevant. Otherwise it is not considered as relevant. So based on the type of roles offered, there is a difference in salary packages for PGPs and FPMs. For example, the top paying finance firms or other corp firms do not open their front-line and sales/marketing roles for FPMs which involve higher salary structures. The FPMs are primarily taken for analytics and consulting roles and these roles are less paid compared to the "high risk taking" roles which reward higher. Hope this removes any ambiguity in my earlier posting.
@gajamani just a small question I am planning on staying at the Hostel, Do i need to book in advance and is there any specific time I should be there on 3rd to get accomodation in the hostel
