@maitreya Well 32 was the number of offers made last year, not the interview calls. Expect a similar figure this year as well.
Also Research proposal/question was not asked in application form at IIMC, but having a brief idea about the field of proposed work or some research idea would certainly be helpful. A complete research proposal is not expected.
BS people, do be prepared to answer the reasons for WHY BS and not HR and vice versa. At IIMC these two groups are different and many people are foxed as the research area they propose to say sometimes falls in the other area.
Also generally the questions asked revolve around organizations and motivational theories etc. These would depend more on your background and what you say in initial part of interview. Most of the questions draws from the previous answers only.
@Anu1981 The first year curriculum of FPM at IIMC is similar to PGP coursework. All the courses are similar and few areas like BS, MIS and OR might have a few ( 1 to 2) FP level advanced courses. Second year is specialised coursework where you would do FP level courses in your area.
@buffer my profile is CA + CS + LLB + Bcom. With 2 years of work ex. Was just womdering what sort of questions i shud be expecting having applied for finance ?
Can see you are online and i m sure no one else is asking so let me grab the opportunity to ask profile specific question
@cacs Well you have a very relevant profile for F&C.; Although as I have already mentioned "What questions would be asked" is a very difficult query to handle as noone I know has a similar profile.
But still based on previous experiences, you should be prepared to handle legal aspects of company's finances. E.g. Taxation and audit specific queries, Differences between US GAAP and Indian GAAP might also be asked. Also please be ready with a brief understanding and analysis of this year's budget and impact of CTT in particular.
With your background, the question of why not Law and why fin would definitely crop up. Few questions on the projects done during your work ex are staple.
Try to link all your answers towards the goal of doing a pHD. Your motivation to do the program should be strong and all your answers covertly or overtly should point to the same.
Finally, I again reiterate these pointers are my opinions based on discussions with few other FP students at IIMC and actual interview may go tangential to these as well.
@buffer kya sir !!! What a detailed answer at 3 am also
I will take care of this. Was thinking to prepare one topic from each account, finance and taxation, in case if they ask are of interest, i can strat with them. Am i on a right track ?
Done with IIM A interview on 11 March. Main question was why you want to do FPM and why not a phd in field of science (as science is my background). Interview lasted less then 15 minutes (12 to 13 minutes I guess). Three members were there on the panel, they were continuously pursuing me to agree that phd in science would be better option for me.
just an update to all those who have applied to ISB. I spoke to the adcom today and they told me that by next week the information will be made available.
@nishanta2006 I agree even IIM-B is taking ages they plan to have RAT and Interview on April 4th it may become a squeeze for some people. Well what can we do but wait. Anyways ATB
