Oh! great i cudnt get a single prediction right. It seems that conspiracy theories doing the rounds taht UEFA has some problems with english teams is not unwarranted.
YOU have to just look at the draws to understand it.Anywys its a trial by fire and those who come unscathed will surely reap rewards.I hope that shakhtar at least give some competition to barca. Their home record is outstanding but I think real test is nou camp.Barca dont give you an inch there AND SEEING THE LAST FEW MATCHES THEIR ISA HIGH PROBABLITY THAT YOUR ONE PLAYER IS GOING TO BE SENT OFF ?????
WELL CANT WAIT FOR QF MATCHES TO START...:cheerio::cheerio:
I dnt knw if its true but i heard Ray wilkins n Jamie Redknapp say on sky sports after the draw that shakhter hav defeated Barca at nou camp 3-2 in group stage in 2009.. so i dnt count them out.. dey r dark horses who can surprise them.. i still remember Rubin Kazans gud record n gritty performance against Barca in group stages this n last year.. so anything can happn..
Its Inter who has got the most easiest of games than others..
As far as Chelsea Va Man Utd clash
Manchester United secretary John Alexander: We have advantage with second leg of Champions League tie with Chelsea at home & result could impact on title race - Goal.com
i couldnt agree more with it.. this CL quarter final tie will have a huge impact on EPL title Race this season.... We r gonna see Utd Vs Chelsea 3 more times this season.. what a joy for footballing fans..!!
YUP,shakhtar have been the surprise package this yr and eduardo seems to getting back his form .
the way they dismantled roma was a sight to behold and on their day they can spring a surprise or two.I have become tired of seeing barca winning each day and its high time they should get sum competition...
even though stars seem to favour them in terms of darws amd ment getting sent off for petty reasons..
The way Shakter defeated Arsenal in the group stages and decimated Roma in the knock-outs should be a warning for Barcelona. They play a fearless brand of football , are very strong in attack and are defensive very good too.
Since Barca have to play the second leg at Ukraine , it will be a tricky tie even for Barcelona.
If Barcelona and Real Madrid both win their champions league quarterfinal ties, they will potentially play 4 games in the next month or so, along with the copa del rey final and the la liga return tie
Real Madrid vs Spurs: Madrid would in all probability have a easy win at home with the trio of Di maria, Ozil and Ronaldo providing the creativity in midfield. A much interesting match will be at White hart lane... If Tom Huddleston is able to keep Modric free from defensive duties in midfield, the croatian could turn out to be the game changer. Most probably Jose will do what he did at Nou Camp while at Inter.
Inter vs Schalke: the only way Inter can loose this is by being complacent. They have too good a squad for the Germans and their main players are all playing at their potential. Raul, with his experience could possibly make a difference at home.
Barcelona vs Shaktar: If Shaktar can contain Barca at the camp, then they have a great chance but its easier said than done. Barca clear winners I think.
Last but probably the tie that will hog the maximum of every thing..
Manchester United vs Chelsea: the tie would surely have some controversial refering decisions, probably a golden goal or shootouts. Very less to differentiate between the two. This will be probably won by good defending. If Vidic and Ferdinand are available for both the matches, then United are surely through. Torres has chance to shut us those who are doubting him and he will come good I guess. A lot will depend on how Anchelotti approaches the game, United will surely play their attacking game and its not even easy to hit them on the counter as they backtrack very fast. United to nick this one but very closely.
1. Bang on.. Huddlestone is a monster when it comes to shielding the defenders and the back four..
2. No addition to what u said..
3. for me this game could bring up a surprise.. i have a gut feeling abt it..Douglas Costa for me has looked pretty good at left flank inthe CL uptill nw..
4. as for Defence.. Rio wont be playing 1st tie as far as i believe.. but for Chelsea its even bad..David Luiz wnt play either of the match n with Alex still out they have more defensive issues than UTD for CL tie.. the key for UTD can be Valencia..he had a massive impact on them in community shield match at the start of the Season..
AS far as my gut feeling says UTD would win at the Bridge 2-0... n unexpetedly lose at OT 2-1 to Chelsea with a late strike in the match that wud b luking likely to be heading into extra time.. but it wnt..

Nice analysis by both of u!!
Really liked it!!! :cheerio:
My 2 cents:-

1. Along with the points mentioned by u, one more crucial factor for Real is MARCELO!!! He has proved that he is the best back winger so far in UCL while Ashley Cole did not perform to his caliber!! :|:sneaky:
2. No probs for inter, will easily sail through, considering they succeed to outplay Neur's defence, Inter may concede one goal !!

3. Though Shakhtar is the surprise of the competition, dont think they can create any threat to barca!!!

4. And the most imp Encounter!!

Being a true BLUE, I will say Chelsea are definitely going through!!
As said above, Rio will not be playing 1st leg which will be toughest for United to stop Lampard-Malouda-Anelka-Torres in absence of him!!!

And considering OT leg, Last yr we have defeated them at that ground also, so we may fetch 0-0 or 1-1 draw for sure!!!
All in all, though i am not PAUL or SHANE WARNE, i dont want to stop myself predicting the results:-

____________________1st leg__________2nd leg (scoreline according to home side first)
Real- Tottenham _______2-0____________1-1
Inter-Shalke___________2-0____________1-2
Barca-Shakhtar________3-0_____________0-1

Sure why not for that bold part..Chelsea can beat UTD at OT just like last year u guyzz did with a Drogba clear Offside Goal.. It will all be down to good Refreeing for Utd.. only then they have a chance..No way otherwise if Refree plays for Chelsea as a 12th Man on field..

For the Blue part.. i m seeing Smalling uptill Halftime against a gritty , Physical Bolton side who r knwn for wininng everything in the Air n hes winning in the Air against the likes of Kevin Davies etc..:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Who r Chelsea gonna play in Defence with no Luiz.. n What if Terry gets injured in the International break..?? with no Alex date for return set.. :lookround:
Never to Write off UTD...
if n if only at ur own Peril...
Even Alex Fergusson knows that this United team is the one of the weakest in recent years and they still rely a lot on Giggs and Scholes to win matches. Nani , Rooney and Chichirato are all good but not as good other top teams and their midfield doesnt have the class of recent years. Their defense without Vidic and Ferdinand looks shaky.
Among the eight teams in the quarterfinals they have scored the minimum number of goals in Europe. They have relied a lot on their defense to win matches and unless Vidic plays , their luck is sure to run out in Europe.
Having said that there is one thing which Chelsea cannot match United for. That is the team spirit and their never die attitude of ManU.

Man Utd 1-0 Bolton...

Dude its not never say die attitude.. Utd pressed Bolton hard in the 2nd Half...( post mortem from me later on right nw i m enjying it..:drinking:)
to all Gunners fans relief..

Arsenal 2-2 West Brom..
So they have atleast got a point from the match..
the 2nd goal they conceded was literally shameless..

I totally have faith in Arsenal to slip up in the run in..they dnt have the mentality to win the title.. i fear Chelsea more than Arsenal for the Title Challenge..
P.S. Manuel Almunia's outsatanding performance for Arsenal...

I'm glad we got a draw. Otherwise it was bye bye title. West Brom are the only team to ever get points at old trafford this epl, so they are not mugs. Playing them away from home is not the easiest game.
Title not over yet. Arsenal fight on to die another day :]
The game at the emirates in may will be the title decider I think. Arsenal win imperative for the title, Manutd win or draw good enough for them

Yes u r right West Brom were gifted a point by Van der Sar's Howler which have been most rare mistakes of his career at OT....:lookround::lookround:
We will win the title in style by beating Arsenal once again for the 3rd time this season at Emirates....

finally we sneaked through...damn! i tend to get a little irritated with berbatov..i feel he slows down the game when all the others are going great guns..couldnt understand the logic behind not playing chicarito..all the others were good..rooney,vds,valencia and nani were as usual brilliant
..evans is back..wasnt a red card tackle..he definitely got the ball first...
Arsenal drew against WBA..yeh match jeet nai paatey aur chale title jeetne
Arsenal is dead dead don't fight

Don't be that cocky also sirjee, Utd are not back in form just yet
Utd have lost 3 of the last 4 EPL games away from home. If your away form stays the same, or doesn't improve drastically, even a draw in that game can be good enough for arsenal :]
G!XX3R SaysArsenal is dead dead don't fight
What an intuitive opinion. Try to be a contributor to the thread bhai, not a person who makes jibes at another's team and starts fights that makes people unsubscribe from this thread.

Chicarito started the game mate... Berbatov came on for him in the 2nd half.. he has a gud record against Bolton.. the most intriguing part of the whole match was
SAF giving instructions from directors box thru Fone..

Johnny Evans tackle was a Red Card no doubt abt that.. but for me the way Smalling orchestrated the defence was awesum .. Evans was gud in the air thats was the most positive thing abt him.. Fabio luked good too in goin back after Evans Red Card..
Rooney n Hernandez were wasteful in 1st half a bit.. but Cahill was really on song..
Scrappy Scrappy win for United..they just some how manage to cross the finish line all through this season thats one quality that sets them apart,, but would be naive to write off Arsenal as they have all their hopes piled on League and United have more tougher games to play for the rest of season..Also United back line is on its knees unless they manage to get one or two of them fit enough in their international break..This season is going down to wire.!!

err...i missed the first half due to the damn pak-aus match..yea saw SAF with the fone giving instructions.he's gonna have to do that for 4 more matches
.yaar i felt it wasnt a red card tackle..but the defence certainly looked a lot better today..
