George Best-- He belonged to Northern Ireland. So obviously he couldn't do anything in the world cup. He didn't play in the first place. And imo, no matter how talented he might be, he was not in the class of maradona-zidane-pele. There's no point in arguing what he could have done.Fact is : he destroyed himself. Maradona even with his cocaine addiction and what-not, won Argentina the world cup, and won a mediocre side like Napoli two scudettos, and one UEFA cup. It's scary to think what he could have achieved if he played in more recognized clubs.

Point is : Cruyff, Puskas didn't win the WC but made their presence felt in the national team. But a quick look at Messi's stats reveals, his records so far are way inferior in the international stage compared with his club performance.Mind you, he has time on his side and i pray he replicates his club performances in the national team. But till now, be it in copa america or in the world cup, whenever I expected Messi to deliver, he has failed. Again, expectations from him are very high always. But with the reputation of being the world's best, he will have to carry this burden throughout his career.

Its always the popular one who wins in the end. Messi, no doubt is hell of a player. But to keep things straight, this years ballon nominations should have included Schiejder and Arjen Robben and Iniesta. Personally Iniesta or Shneijder should've won.

i seriously doubt these awards.most of the times the player who scores more goals wins this award.midfielder and defender's work kinda goes unnoticed.snijder deserves to be there.Messi will win it though(bt i feel Xavi should win).
