Hi All,

This thread is for all the prospective applicants applying to Fisher this year.

All the applications are considered on Rolling basis, here are the deadlines for reference:

Oct 31
Dec 15 (Deadline to be considered for merit based funding)

Essays:

1. Essay 1: Shaping Your Vision*

Every year Fisher College's Full-Time MBA program admits a select group of talented professionals with demonstrated potential to become successful business leaders in an increasingly competitive, global environment. Why do you want to earn an MBA degree in general and a Fisher College MBA in particular? How will Fisher specifically assist you in achieving your individual potential? As part of your response, include a brief summary of your professional accomplishments to date. If you have not held a full-time job or are still in college, let us know about your leadership accomplishments in a school, internship, or extracurricular context.

Essay 2: Focusing On Leadership*

One of Fisher's strengths is its dedication to developing leaders. Listed below are 10 attributes that characterize great leaders. Please select the two criteria that best describe your strengths and provide us with concrete evidence to support your choices.

You may submit physical objects, images, photographs or photocopies, along with brief descriptions of how the objects exemplify the leadership qualities you have chosen (i.e. you might share a picture of time spent doing volunteer work in another country, along with an explanation for how that experience has heightened your global awareness).

Or, you may choose to write an essay for each of the two characteristics you select, describing situations in which you exemplified these leadership traits (each choice with a maximum of 500 words).

Please be sure to title each essay with the characteristic you selected.

Please note: The Fisher College of Business will not be responsible for returning physical objects to applicants.

Integrity
Empathy
Curiosity
Endurance
Creativity
Global awareness
Passion
Vision
Self Awareness
Communication and interpersonal skills

Essay 3: Discovering You*

As a Fisher College MBA student, you get the best of both worlds: the up-close and personal feel of a small program combined with the resources and opportunities offered by a major research university. As an individual participant, you will play a key role in shaping our culture. Consequently, we would like to learn more about who you are and the unique characteristics you will contribute to the Fisher College community. Provide an honest description of yourself outside your professional context, stressing the personal characteristics you believe to be your strengths and weaknesses, along with the factors that have most influenced your development to date.

Since, I am also an applicant, I can understand your thoughts dude.

IMO, it is hard to quantify scholarships for an average GMAT score, while the same is not true for a higher score, as a GMAT score that is 30-40 points above the school average GMAT, will surely stand chance of obtaining some sort of waiver.

I think one should apply if the score is +-10 points of the school's avg. and hope for the best.

Hey Megha,
Can you share ur profile. Here's mine :
GMAT : 700/5
B.Tech : Metallurgy, 8.8/10
XII : 88.2 , X :94.6
Extra curricular : good
Work ex : less than 2 ..
I know asking abt chances seem rather stupid, bt evaluating those could help me further in my application. I'm applying for fall'12.
Thanks in advance. 😃 😃

Hi Puys!
:
I'm new and somehow I can't find my last post in this thread.
NEWays I plan to apply for fall'12

Mehga!
Thanks for being there to help out.

Now I know it's a great school and most tracks/disciplines taught here will be a great learning experience.
But still, is Fisher known for a particular track? Ex Operations and Logistics or Finance?

I hope to switch to Operations consulting. As such internships are very important. What sort of summer internships are you looking at?(in terms of either companies/industries/roles anything)

Also for someone like me - interested to pursue a career in operations consulting, what are tools / experieces available to a fisher MBA?

Anybody home?

Hi,
I'am sorry but I got busy with my midterm exams. Here goes little bit of my profile:
GMAT : 710/5.5
B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration
PG Diploma
XII : 91 % X: 87%
Work ex (fulltime): 3.5 years

Hope this helps you in some way.I'am definitely not representative of the rest of the class as there are many other diverse(in terms of educational and professional backgrounds) people in our batch.

Best,
Megha

Hey Megha thanx for taking out time from ur busy schedule for prospective candidates like us :)
Can u plz tell us how has the internship & placement season been for 1st & 2nd year students respectively...& i am not asking abt the employment statistics thats posted on fisher's website but rather asking ur take on it... did people/friends/classmates around u got placed... & how hard is it for international students, in general, to get a work visa post MBA ??

Regards,
Vaibhav

Hello Amo3ba,
All the tracks available at Fisher are equally good and have many students pursuing them but Fisher is definitely is known to be one of the best in US for it's Operation and Logistics Management major. The Strategy major is another one that's quite popular with most students.
By Operations Consulting,I believe you meant " Strategy and Operations" Consulting(or is it Supply Chain Consulting).By choosing the right major(you can even customise your major by choosing different courses that you want to take up),making use of the great oppurtunities for experiential learning available at Fisher through real time project work, student organisations ,case competitions, etc.,you could definitely prepare yourself for a career switch to Operations Consulting(specially if you don't have a prior experience in this sector).I am a career switcher as well and am looking at Human Capital Consulting(and I don't have a consulting background).Presently,i am working on a human capital related project with a bank as a consultant through the Fisher Professional Services (a professional student organisation Fisher students can be a part of).Apart from this, i have involved myself in the Consulting and Startegy Club.To sum it up,there are many ways that you can really work towards gaining the experience and skills which can make the career switch easier for you.For my internships, I 'am looking at some consulting companies which focus on Human Capital as a consulting practice. The career planning office here is very helpful in guiding you towards the right path and helping out in the job search.
Hope this answered your questions.
Best,
Megha

Hi Megha thanks for the info and sorry for getting back rather late. I am almost complete with my application but am yet to send across my TxScripts. Just wanted to confirm 2 things:

1) 1st it's rolling admissions right? Which means my application won't be bunched into the second deadline lot (having missed the first deadline) Rt? Basically would has this 'delay' affect my chances?

2) I am yet to send across my TxScripts. I understand mailing the soft copy is enough rt? Or do you recommend sending it through courier?

Hi Amo3ba,

1) We would need your transcripts within 7-10 days of the deadline. If not, you will be bunched with the 2nd round applications. Any delay or any round application during the 1st and 2nd rounds will not affect your chances of getting an admit or scholarship.

2) Emailing the soft copy is enough for decision making purposes. I would recommend doing both emailing and mailing. If you have not already sent the soft copy do it asap to be included with your application.

Hope this helps!

Prashant Mehta

Hi Puys,

Whoever is still in the process of submitting the application, I would recommend doing it as soon as possible. Our admissions team is visiting India early next month and it would be a great chance to meet with them in person if you are shortlisted for an interview or if you are interested in setting up a time with them to meet.

Hi Prashant

Thanks for the information.

I just received my interview invite from Fisher. Planning to meet them in Bangalore.

Can you give me heads up on the Fisher interview process?
Usual questions asked, what are the important judgment areas for Fisher through the interview?

I hope you can help me out.

Thanks
Anirud

I too received an interview invite yesterday. I am planning to meet them at Bangalore.

Congratulations to all those receiving interview invites! The interviews are very behavioral and conversational in nature. Be sure to prepare some examples on team work, leadership etc. We are looking for candidates who are smart and can fit well in the Fisher culture. And so it is important to be yourself during the interview. Take some time out to introspect and think about your career goals and aspirations. Do not stress out and am sure you will do great!

Hi prashantpro,

Just landed up on this thread today. Thanks for all the help you guys are doing.

I just got a mail from Julee Conrad today. I have sent back my resume and score details of GMAT and TOEFL. However, when I checked on the link you have given before it tells me to contact you or Megha. So do I need to send mail to you guys?

Thanks in advance 😃

Hi sjmit4,

If you are already in touch with Julee, then you are good. You do not need to send a separate email to me or Megha. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck :)
