Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Hi,
I am writing FRM Level 1 November, 2012 exam. I live in Gurgaon. I am looking for a good couching institute in Delhi. So far, I have came around IIQF and Pristine.

Can someone please suggest me that which one is better between the two? One is there some other good institute?

Pristine q banks (quizzes) are best. 2 Mock test conducted at the end is in line with the actual exam.

Also pristine faculties are very supportive. I am saying all this b/c I hv joined for FRM part 1 and m fully satisfied.

Now u can decide.

I have had a few PMs asking for strategy now that the dollar rate is on a high and registering for Nov FRM exam is going to be a costly affair. At the same time, understandably, people do not want to waste study time.

Let me address the queries here to benefit everyone...

Basic Rule: The registration for FRM has no relation to your preparation. Unlike CFA, the FRM core readings are not linked to the enrollment process. So start your studies for Nov NOW itself - you still have till July end to register.

That said, I do not want to comment on the Re-Dollar rate - it may go up or down... so take your call.

May and Nov AIMs are exactly same - so whatever material is released in the market currently for the May exams stands very good for the Nov exam also.

Go as per the study guide of 2012 and the core readings / schweser / whatever you are comfortable with.

Oh ya, the enrollment and core reading are linked at a price of $75

Is that so? So far as I am aware, the fees does not cover the study material. Earlier they were not providing any core reading material on enrollment. All study material had to be purchased separately. Only advantage was the one year membership.

Can you please give the link where they have mentioned this $75 linkage.

Well, even now, the situation remains the same. But if you are a member the core material is available at a less price($75).

Thx leo !!!

Now a difficult question....

I m guessing GARP will ask the concerned people to ensure that a few % (say 25%) of ppl appearing for the exam must pass in order to maintain its popularity and commercial attractiveness ....... dats d way it usually works in US ...... do u have ne idea abt d numbers involved?? ...... also can u guess based on ur / ur frnds experiences dat what will be passing score ??

Sorry 4 askin such questions ..... I m a bit nervous !!!

CHEERS BYE !!!

There are other options to getting the core reading, if you are ok with that. Go through the last few pages of this thread for more details.

Relax!
Concentrate on the study portion and wish for the good... don't bother about these things. As I has explained in the earlier posting, the grading is relative, so absolute marks do not matter.

Moreover, the "commercial attractiveness" works in the favor of people who clear - think of it in this manner - if very few people are clearing the exam, people would loose interest and so would the employers. Then, if almost everyone is clearing the exam, the supply would be so high that the value of the certificate would vanish. So a delicate balance needs to be maintained and it is a very complex task... which is what is accomplished by the formula that I had given in my post.

Thx leo !!!

Guys who have taken FRM part-I on 19th...........How do you feel?

I felt it was a bit tough. 60% solvable but lots of theory. Difficulty level was as expected but with surprising framing of questions! I hope we all nail it.

Had a query......if I register for the November Exam and later need to defer it to May 2013, then will any charge be levied???

You can defer at the expense of 100 $

For more info , check this

GARP - Exam Deferral Policy

hey!

You can always defer your registration up until the last day of registration, April 15th or October 15th, respectively. There is, however, an administrative processing fee of US$100 that is due at the time of the request, payable online by credit card. Please note, candidates are allowed only one deferral for each Exam, meaning that a candidate may defer only once for Part I and once for Part II.

which institute is best for FRM coaching in mumbai

hav d same Q...som1 plzz reply....

Some nitty gritties here.

You will not be asked to pay $100 on deferral - rather the money that you had paid will be held in your account less $100. When you register later, the credit will be provided to you.

So, for example, you register for Part1 for Nov paying $650 and then later defer to May13. You account will have a credit of $550 (650-100). In January you will be required to register for May13 (yes - there is NO auto-registration), you will have to pay $100 to make up for the total of $650.

There is only one deferral allowed per "registration" / per part. Hence if you register for Part1 in Nov and defer to May, you cannot defer further. But yes, you can register again and then again defer once :)

Relax, there is enough time till Nov - I am sure with dedication, you can prepare and appear.

EDIT: It appears that now GARP asks you to pay the $100 at the time of deferral (unlike good old times). Thanks to Ashish for pointing this out.

This was the policy till about 2008 or 2009. I am sure if you have had a contra experience, the policy would have been modified.

Thank you for the update.

So in addition to schweser, will we have to buy a lot of other books? Can we work out a short list of books needed other than S and work on acquiring them asap? I have an ebook version of Hull...can share that if needed. I've noticed a lot of ebook versions of expensive books floatinf around for free on the net these days...could look it up in case we have a list of books.

TumTum, i'll be speaking to you soon man...need some serious advice coz 30th april is almost here and i dont wanna lose 150$ more!

Hi friend, I am appearing for Level 1 FRM this Nov. can you send me the link to download 'Hull' ?
Do read the article with your own filters applied.

The author is trying to compare apples to oranges and in the end that is what he ends up making - Mix mashed juice. 😃 that too biased.

well after reading this article and especially the line "Having cleared level 2 would be equivalent to having a FRM degree", i wont join Finstructor as the author is a lead instructor there, leolazer thanks for quoting and your opinion.
